J.J. Abrams was asked to direct this film by Cruise cause apparently he binge watched first season of Alias & knew that was the director he wanted. There were like 3 others attached to project first, & it's crazy that Hoffman wasn't even casted originally as villain, but cause directors kept going & then the film got delayed it opened up his schedule for this role. Check out primes theater a complete retrospective. It's amazingly well put together & u can just follow timestamps or wait and watch later.
Consider covering the new Hulu series "a murder at the end of the world", it's a real blast crime thriller starring the actress that portrayed last year princess Diana

Forgot to tell u guys during MI2 one of my fav casting notes bout that film was the Hopkins character was originally cast by Ian McKellen, but he left to pursue Gandolf on LOTR & the Dougray Scott character was originally cast by High Jackman, but he left to pursue Wolverine in X-men. Ain't that nuts!!! The Gandolf & Wolverine we all know & love would be completely different, but wonder how many times those actors have actually been glad they bowed out whilst other ones like Hoffman in this movie made the best villian !! I love these weird what if ?? situations. lol

Phillip Seymore Hoffman is terrifying in this. He kills this villain role. Zero emotion, zero scruples, he does not care. And that cold open is a ridiculously crazy way to open a movie, even by MI standards. From this film on, each one just gets better.
We lost a real treasure. He was amazing!
He was one of the few entertaining things about that movie Twister. I slam it today but that's hypocritical because when I was young I loved it. But that role and this one are polar opposites. And both times he is the star of the movie.

When the villain shot her, i just felt hopeless for Ethan and the rest of the movie. Indeed it was so intense!
That was legitimately.... And I have no clue how this is possible.... The only time the movie fooled me with a mask. It was pretty obvious once it happened. But in the moment I was pissed that he killed her. Because I ACTUALLY thought he really killed her.
I havent seen the latest one but this one is by far the best of the franchise in my opinion! Philip Seymour Hoffman steals the show!
he's so good, Hoffman. The character is a generic arms dealer with no powers or special skills, no backstory or motivation, and his goal is a literal macguffin ... and yet every moment he is onscreen is electric and terrifying.

Dude, you gotta see Dead Reckoning if you love this franchise.... it's amazing, easily one of the best. I agree this is pretty peak for the series though.
It’s been years since I watched this, and Kerri Russel’s death still gives me chills. So simple, but haunting.
This reinvigorated and reinvented the Mission Impossible series so much that even to this day the movies are like this (in terms of style)
And it's all the better for it, this is such a good movie
They are not like this in terms of style. The next one is very much in the style of Brad Bird and 5, 6 & 7 are very much in the style of Chris McQuarrie.
They're actually more espionage-y like the first movie and actually have a plot.
There is a reason why they kept Mcquarrie for the rest of the movies. They finally found the perfect recipe with him.
What an intense intro. I do appreciate serious no bullshit villains. Like if most Hollywood villains were as “evil” as they picture them to be they’d be ruthless. Much respect to Philip Seymour RIP
It's very rare for someone to outshine Tom I'm the Mission Impossible movies, but Phillip Setmour Hoffman absolutely made this movie his. RIP to an absolute legend. Made this movie infinitely better and was perfection.

Also one of the best villain in the whole series. From the first scene Philip Seymour establishes what kind of villain he will be.
The remaining movies may be more entertaining, but they’ve yet to top this villain. PSH is just incredible.

40:24 I think its a big step up from the 3rd movie and it also brought back Ethan's character down to the Earth. The first 3 movies builds up the different layers of Ethan. From the next one, you will see Ethan at his badass best.

This was actually the first MI movie I was old enough to really appreciate when it came out in theaters. I saw MI2 first when I was a teen at home and liked it but not much more. THIS movie however... blew me away. It's still my fav MI movie by a mile.

It's also his first of 4 sequels as an producer.
Also it's a direct sequel to Part 1 with part 2 not being canonical due to it's reception.
Stakes have certainly grown higher as The late Philip Seymour Hoffman is incredibly vicious as Davien.
Hunt and co. still defy the odds even when his potential marriage is in danger.
All over the place and very good, beat for beat.
A really good 3rd film of any series is rare, these days.
Tom Cruise have made peoples career get off many times. He always give people that havent had the chance yet their big chance. Like Brad Bird in Ghost Protocol. He also gave Rebecca Ferguson her first big movie. He made her a star. And thats just to name a few.
This one was honestly one of the best ones. 3 and 4, especially. They were still kinda grounded, despite the crazy action, which is something 5-7 lost. I know people love them for how complex the story is, and how insane the action is, but 3 and 4 had the best blend of everything imo, including the best crews

The first one has noir vibe, the 2nd movie is campy, explosive action, but this one sets the tone for their future installments. This is where M:I 'cinematic universe' began.

Since I've started watching you all a cpl years ago I've bought: GPS, a Rambo knife, a ankle knife, I've always had my 9 mm, I have bought different kinds of heavy duty survival grappling hooks, I made sure I got a cpl that are Yaesport Grappling hooks that are climbing hooks that has 4 folding claws survival carabiner hooks that are stainless steel. One of the saddest pieces of information that I learned about Philip Seymour Hoffman dying. Is that Christopher Nolan was in talks with him to bring him on as a villain in the third Batman that Christopher Nolan did The Dark Knight rises. The joker was also supposed to make a reappearance though it probably would have just been a special appearance type thing for both. I believe that the plan was after Gotham gets taken over by Bane. And criminals rule. The joker was supposed to make an escape. And Scarecrow was not supposed to reappear again in the third one. Phillip Seymour Hoffman was supposed to be sitting on that giant pile of furniture passing judgment on the people of Gotham. Giving them that execution or exile choice.
Because he would have played....had things gone to plan....the Best Oswald Cobblepot The Penguin that anybody would ever see. And we didn't get to see it.....😢

Have you fellas seen Amazons original show Reacher? If not, that would be an excellent reaction. Jack Reacher is perfect for you guys. He has a deadpan, dry humor that is hilarious. Alan Ritchson is pin point accurate to the books, a very big man who epitomizes badassery. BTW, Tom Cruise played the Reacher character in two movies, although he didn't fit the book description, the first movie was pretty good. One of the better opening sequences of any movie.
Personally I actually think it's the weakest part of the movie. While it's definitely a great scene, stories should start at the beginning, not when it's at its most tense. It sort of nullifies the first two acts because we already know that somehow it all leads to Ethan and his wife as captives.
Loving all the videos guys, you should give the movie as above so below a watch I think you guys will love it, it’s super underrated and kinda went under the radar when it came out. Anyways, keep up the content y’all are hilarious!
