      @@Christian-Berger yeah I don’t get this. The trail runner will be $65K+. If it has cheap materials who is going to buy this? There are vehicles in that price range that have far better materials.

      @hkfan4596 unfortunately people will still buy it and it will set the new standard for toyota. As much as I love the brand they're in it to make money and if they get away with such cost cutting they're going to continue

    Thanks so much for discussing the plastic galore interior door panels. Basic sr5 trims of previous gens had soft touch galore. This is absolutely unacceptable in the trd “premium” builds and price point. Give me a break dude. Toyota is really cheapin out on the build quality and just hiking up the prices. It’s insane. People need to speak up! $60k for these trd premium 4Runners I bet and the plastic door panels is just ridiculous.

      Not only are the cars cheapers both in and out, then the power units no one has asked for, at least in the offroad community, tiny fuel tanks to top it off...
      an LC first edition in canada is over 100K, give me a break!!
      The new 4runner is pretty much an UGLY LC, how much is that thing going to cost, plus it's just PLAIN ugly and cheaply made.

    I like the textered fenders on the Off Road Taco's and LC 250 but man the color matched fenders just look right on the 4Runner. I swear they do this every generation of the 4Runner lol. They start out with textured fenders for offroad/trail edition trims then make all trims color matched and it's for the better. Early 4th gen sport trims had textured fenders too then moved to all color matched. The cycle repeats I suppose lol.

    • @MegaCityOne
      @MegaCityOne 16 дней назад +1

      I own one of those 03 4runners with the large grey fenders. It's a cool unique style. Toyota should have kept that look. It's similar to the Rav 4 concept edition.

  • @ravensfootball52

    What’s with Toyota being cheap with soft touch materials? They don’t even give you power passenger seats on 50k vehicles. It’s pretty ridiculous how they option out these new tnga models. No other manufacturers skimp out like this. I really love the styling of these Toyotas but man they make it tough to justify paying these prices.

    I'm still hopeful that we will see at least one trim level offering a two-tone color. Also, I prefer matte black on any of the trim pieces. My biggest thing though, is the MPG on both gas and hybrid. My decision will be based on that. They all look really good, but since we will have 9 trim levels to choose from, that will help narrow it down,lol.

    The plastic isn't limited to the interior. Trucks and SUVs should have steel bumpers. Also, there's a bunch of 24' Tacoma owners complaining about the paint job. For starters, there's dirt in the paint. On some spots, there's missing clearcoat. My state oil and chips roads. Plus, we have winters. My rear painted plastic fender flares are all chipped up, and the vehicle hasn't been off pavement yet. Or seen any road salt either. I've had my Tacoma at the dealership on November 7th, and they clay barred a couple spots. On November 9th and 10th, I took the Tacoma to two very reputable autobody shops and a high-end hotrod shop. All three places said, "The entire vehicle needs stripped, prepped, repainted, and clearcoated." They were even nice enough to map out my entire truck. Went back to the Toyota dealership on November 13th. Talked to the sales and service managers. They set up a second meeting with the Toyota Rep on November 21st, at 8:30 am. The first time, the rep was an hour late, the second time, two and a half hours late. This guy is a dick! He wants to half-ass the fix. I called 1-800-LEMONLAW. They took the case! It was documented that the vehicle was there 3Xs and to three expert repair shops. I was willing to work with Toyota, but no more. I already bought another vehicle, and it is not a Toyota. The first trail date is set for the middle of January. The case was expedited because of the severity of the flaw.....

    The pricing for the 4R will definitely make or break the company, especially since tacoma sales have dropped by at least 25%.
    With them delaying the 4R release, they better hope they learned from the tacoma. I have no issues with the new engine and companies wanting to cheap out on materials and build quality, just price the vehicles accordingly and realistically to what youre putting out.
    LC pricing is another prime example that toyota should learn from. 55K+ for barebones 1958 "base model" is highway robbery.

    Gotta say I like the wheel fenders that match the body color over the gloss black fenders. I know it’s the sport version but put some KO3’s on her and some TRD wheels would be my choice. Hopefully Toyota will add more soft touch interior parts as the 6th Gen goes through its updates over its lifespan. Also not liking the 4Runner lettering on the rear gate. Less is better.

      Terrible apologist take. Toyota does not HAVE to be this expensive. They are choosing it. There are many ways they could cut costs and offer simpler and more basic, but quality packages that would sell. Stop making excuses for every company that does this, just cause others do it. If EVERYTHING is expensive, than one of the few companies that is NOT expensive would still do well because they would get all the business. If people already can't afford things, the more affordable quality cars would sell like hot cakes.

    Jon, I’m a big fan of your videos, however, I think you are giving Toyota too much credit. The Tacoma‘s are not selling very well. They are starting to offer for six to $8000 discounts. They are piling up at dealers. They expect they may sell 170 K this year when they normally sell around 250 K. The prices are simply too expensive… I know you’re very pro Toyota, as am I I have a 21 pro and a 24 off-road premium forerunner… But I’m disgusted with their pricing and cheapening of the vehicles. Please acknowledge that. Thanks.

All the Tacomas sitting are Sr and sr5. Still nowhere near the numbers on the lot pre covid. People soon to forget that having options to choose from is a good thing. Also, 8K off??? The whole thing with "soft touch" complaining is lame. If you want soft touch, buy a highlander. If you want want an SUV that will have an interior that looks the same in 10 years as it looks now, buy a 4runner with as few delicate materials as possible. I've never owned a 4runner or Toyota truck for less than 10 years, and have always been impressed with the how the interiors have held up over time. But the soft areas are the ones you have to constantly worry about if you have kids or dogs.

    If you care about longevity and reliability over power and MPG, the 4-cylinder turbo is a real disappointment. I also don’t prefer 20” wheels on an off-roader. Give me 17” wheels with larger tires. Gloss black everywhere going to be a scratch magnet. Interior looks cheap. Don’t need all the tech widgets that break and drive up costs. Just don’t like the direction Toyota is going with their new trucks. Too expensive and focusing on the wrong things.

    • @ALMX5DP
      @ALMX5DP 17 дней назад

      Not sure how the engine can be a disappointment yet since it's relatively new so no one has really been able to validate that outside of Toyota themselves. My only anecdote to share is that I have a 2015 2.0T Ford with 90k miles that has been absolutely flawless so far. I can easily see it going another 10 years without anything major. I'd hope that Toyota has improved on that further still being this engine is 10 years newer in design than my Fords is. So maybe, just maybe, it's not as bad as the internets FUD would have you believe.

      @@ALMX5DPIn general, a turbo charged (non-diesel) engine puts much more pressure on the internals and reduces longevity. It will probably be fine for 10 years, 100K miles with proper maintenance, but the odds of getting a 25+ years, 300K+ miles life cycle is less likely than with a port injected NA V6. Most folks don’t keep vehicles this long anymore, so the 4-banger turbo is actually probably better suited for today’s throw-away society.

      @@bluedevil0111 using terms like "in general" are really no help and only fuel FUD on the interwebs. Engines designed for positive boost pressure are exactly that, designed for it. Sure they may not last as long as a 25 year old naturally aspirated engine design with low(er) compression but when compared with modern emissions meeting engines (even NA ones) I'd think that "in general" they would all perform similarly.
      And I am not sure why the "most folks dont keep vehicles this long" reference is even relevant here. If you are the type of person to keep something longer, nothing is stopping you from fixing and maintaining a vehicle for however long it is you want to keep it running. I'm sure there are tons of 20-30-40+ year old turbocharged vehicles that people have maintained to keep running even if many ignorant or "throw away" owners decided to scrap theirs.

      @@ALMX5DP You make good points, and as a Toyota fan I hope that this powertrain proves to be a real winner. It feels like a gamble to go 4 cylinder turbocharged if your main reasons for buying are longevity and reliability. It may prove to be both, but there’s a reason I scooped up a ‘24 TRD ORP. I have other issues with the Gen 6: being built with thinner sheet metal using more adhesive instead of spot welding, thinner (cheaper) interior materials with less soft touch, reduced rear cargo space (esp. hybrid), and of course, the inevitable price inflation. As a company, Toyota seems to be straying from reliable, simple, proven, off road capable trucks with excellent build quality at reasonable prices to more complicated, unproven, and expensive vehicles. Time will tell. I hope they hold up because I’d like to buy another one (but not until 2044 or later… 😆).
