You guys made me cry, because you understand Turing! You made me proud, because you realised that, who he slept with is nothing to do with his genius! Xx

Absolutely agree with your statement at the end of the video. Geniuses or just people who think differently, like artists, authors, and provocateurs, are gifts to our societies and we shouldn't take them for granted or silence them just because they don't fit the standard mold of society or because we disagree with them or find them annoying.

Thank you most sincerely for your comments about Alan Turing, you are totally correct, and I am so grateful for your statements. He was a hero, hounded to his death, thank you, thank you.

You should watch The Imitation Game, an excellent movie about Turing.

'The Imitation Game' is a very good movie about him. The lives he saved is incredible.

Turing was exceptional, just a shame Ramanujan didn't live longer, he is epic, possibly India's finest mind in the 20th century

It was believed for a long time that the Apple logo (an apple that misses a bite) is a tribute to Turing. It's not true, that's just a coincidence. But I wish it was true.

Very sad end to a brilliant mind but that was a different time.

Its always difficult to understand a genius... unless you are a genius. Seen serveral programmes about him. Have you ever thought 'how does he unwind' at a weekend ?. I don't think genius's do unwind.

Turin was part of a team that decoded the german enigma codes. Marian Rejewski was the person who cracked the code.

Turing's crime was not being gay. Although homosexuality was illegal, his sentence was for being a paedophile: he had sex with a minor when he was 39. The boy was given only a conditional discharge.

@Dell Wright Yes. Until the Family Law Reform Act 1969 the age of majority was 21. Below that age persons are considered in law to be "infants". On the issue of Turing's persecution for being gay, Guy Burgess was openly homosexual and that did his career no harm.

    • @thostaylor

@Dell Wright They were indeed both prosecuted for Gross Indecency, which was a criminal offence, and Turing would probably have been prosecuted for paedophilia had the offense been committed after 1967. However, many known homosexuals were not prosecuted, including Burgess et al, and Murray was given a conditional discharge. As you pointed out, Turing would not have been prosecuted if Murray had been female. It is funny how many people defend Turing but condemn Prince Andrew (who was one year older).

He’s hardly a paedophile when the person was 19. Such an awful thing to say.
