How is it irresponsible for a past president to make a govermental "foreshadowing" movie?? The plot isnt something that most people dont already expect - those of us with half a brain and eyes at least. If anything, you'd think citizens would heed the warning and understand that many of the things that are believed about our government are not just conspiracy theories.

It didn't really freak me out but it obviously touched a nerve with some people.
Maybe because it was quite underplayed and not the usual overly hyper action scenario. I mean people mass panicking etc.
In other words I think it tried to summon up a creeping feeling of dread and maybe fear of the unknown. No-one really understood what was going on in the movie. And it was more of a drama so touched on quite a human level.
So it obviously worked for some.

Agree 💯💯💯 literally all I was thinking while watching this (really good) movie was "WTF Barack what are you trying to tell us?!?!?" Haha. And as the plot got more intertwined with military and defense contracting, and VERY plausible dire situations we might find ourselves in, it's impossible to not connect the executive producer (again, former POTUS) to the film.

So what if it is an Obama film. It is a good entertaining movie with thought-provoking ideas and great messages. (The ending was a bit disappointing though) The film tells us we need to work together despite our differences. If a foreign enemy wants to invade America, they can just put out misinformation, and stir up chaos, and they can just sit back watching us weaken the country by fighting each other. I can already see that happening right now. Obama is just doing his part to warn us of a possible danger. There is nothing wrong with that. I actually think they should have made this movie sooner.

Life imitates art, art imitates life. Sometimes it’s even a playbook or a script i suppose. The movie Contagion was basically a preview of how the response/reaction to Covid-19 would play out.
Edit. Watched Leave The World Behind. Twice actually. Interesting movie. Liked the Rose and Ruth characters the most. Thought the movie was deep in symbolism. Have to look into exactly how much involvement/influence the Obama’s had with the movie. Did they show up after it was made, say it looked good, and put their stamp of approval on it or did they have lots of input into the movie? Either way, very interesting movie. Liked the ending.

Just like the super rich friend in the movie, the Obama's said "Ya'll take care of yourselves."
Jk. I thoroughly enjoyed this film, and I agree, I think its one of many simulations of how the US empire could fall. The American psyche is simultaneously terrified of and obsessed with "the end", and I think this movie taps into that in a very contemporary and realistic way.
Just.. ya know... have a little preparation if it soothes your anxiety. Along with planning, don't underestimate how important it is to be physically healthy during catastrophic times, and in general.

I thought the movie was alright, i can think of several end of the world type of movies that had similar concepts.
I honestly don’t know if i believe they would have been as calm as they were especially if i have a heads up as to what might be going on. I imagine more chaos everywhere even on the outskirts. When desperation and chaos is in full force i don’t put anything pass anyone.

While i do agree it would be nice for people to work together and i could see the whole outside sending in mixed messages to get people at each other necks but that happens without outside influences now. You got classism, racism, people in general who hate other people just from being in another state. And you have a whole nation full of dead zone and lack of communication. People who lose it

B and Chelle made a great movie, I didn’t even know or think about who produced it. I just watched the movie. This is the final year of art. 1984-2023 for me, because they’ve already hinted at AI being used to create. It was a good run I guess. 🧐👵🏾
