interesting, my interpretation is that 'karen' refers specifically to people that weaponize established norms specifically when it benefits them at the cost of somebody else. ie: 'serve _me_ better,' 'kowtow to _my_ sensibilities,' 'i demand you repay me what _i believe_ i am owed regardless of what the authority in this situation says is owed.' in all of these instances, it reinforces the karen as in some way superior, and that this superiority isn't being honoured is unacceptable to the karen. not that they're simply upholding norms. this also explains why it's usually white people that are called karens, both by popular perception of white people and their observed proclivities to express superiority. and also, the social policing of karen-adjacent behaviour is, ironically, the kinds of karen-etic action you guys are in favour for: upholding societal order through 'civility'
Karens have done their job, I guess, bc they tried to liken Karen to a racial slur, which it isn't. But it characterized a specific type of action, like calling the police on a little girl selling water. Those women aren't used to being called out, and hated the scrutiny, so there's been a campaign to normalize that behavior or make the perception more favorable. Looks like they succeeded.
Oh becoming a parent turned me into a full throttle Karen and I have no care in the world. I WILL advocate for my child. The school system is driving me crazy right now I’ve been karening for a month now.
Yeah. It would be nice to make Orwell fiction again and actually have a population that comprehends vice and virtue. If you don’t mind me saying so, I won’t hold my breath.
@ lol it’s not what your referring to but how your using the phrase “Karen”. We get it kids are annoying but a “Karen” will waste police time to stop some kids from riding their bikes too fast in a park. Let’s stop having bad faith discussions and talk about the real problem please 🙏
@@teadubbz1546 the discussion should be how it is okay to assassinate a (sur/vor)name... How would you like it to be robbed of your first name... Its utterly disgusting behavior which is even promoting violence against women (especially on this platform)
I have more empathy for the younger generation. I say as someone who is also young and just missed Maya's cut off for the trash 😂 While in general, on average, the quality of living has gone up globally, as people transition into a first world standard of living comunity that is often built out of necessity has greatly eroded. Kids and adults these days have so much more free time than the law should alow, and often how we choose to spend that time is watching content that depicts a ideal, materialistic, self indulgent life style. This content is particularly damaging to the mindset of kids who are trying to find their place in the world. Some become frustrated at failed attempts at recreating that lifestyle ie. Incels and some are successful but operate their like as the "main character" and treat people as foder in their play ground. Life just gets stranger as we loose touch with reality and each other one generation at a time.
Words change meanings all the time. Knowing the etymology of a word might help you find the definition of the word, but it is not the definition of the word
@MayeMuses Obviously, there is a difference between denotation and connotation. But just because the connotation of a word changes, it doesn't negate the origin of the word.

Prettu sure karen is a word only used for white women. Any other time its used it basically saying you are acting like one of these white women.
I just had a baby, I’m definitely fine with being a Karen now if need be lol 😂

In some cases, these ladies really are just standing up for themselves and it's dismissed as being a "karen". Not okay!
Perhaps we need to go pushing people being Ladies and Gentlemen

Karen’s follow the law I’m not mad at that
Words don't lose their original meaning they only take on new ones. If words lost meaning etymology wouldn't be a field of study.
