    Merry Christmas Clark and team. I've been listening since I graduated college (the first time!) 18 years ago. I get a lot of people asking me how do you guys go on so many vacations or how can you afford this or that brcause we don't have traditionally "high salary" jobs. That's when I invite them to listen to Clark Howard. All credit to you all!!

    What you don't hear about in the EV world is the battery replacement costs..they are staggering.

    • @je1921
      @je1921 7 месяцев назад +1

      True, but most manufactures have long warranties on the batteries. Also, there are more 3rd party companies that have replacement batteries for much less $ than the dealerships

    22:31 Clark, your engineer is kinda right. The Ethanol in fuel is hygroscopic and if not used it draws moisture. If someone really is only filling 6x a year, pay the premium for ethanol free gas.
    Bonus tip: if you have gas powered equipment around the home - also by ethanol free gas for them also.

    I have a 14 year old hybrid still on the original IMA battery. I usually fill up every two to three weeks for about $20.00 each time. Love it. Except for regular maintenance the car has cost me nothing.

      @User39. I'm sure the money I saved operating the car outweighs any depreciation loss. Also it helps the environment.

      @User39. Depreciation doesn't tend to matter much to people who never have any intent of selling, trading, or upgrading their vehicle. They are going to pay it off quickly and drive it until the wheels fall off. With 14 years already in the bag, @BobbiDoll may be one of those people. 🤷‍♂💚

    How long does that hybrid battery last and how much does it cost to replace that battery when it dies? I expect a car to last at least 200K miles or 20 years, whichever comes first.

      I recently looked into this because I was interested in a used Lexus RX400h.
      The Lexes service tech I spoke with said the earlier battery tech (pre lithium) has a life that’s more about age than miles. He said at 10 years old, the battery is a little past it’s half life and he typically sees 15-18 year life but sometimes as early as 12 years.
      Also, today’s price for a factory battery (for the RX400h) is about $5000 installed. There are aftermarket batteries available at $3000 installed- but I can’t find any reliability info on the aftermarket ones.

    The federal government requires manufacturers to offer an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty on all EV batteries. California does one better, mandating a warranty of 10 years or 150,000 miles. Some companies will cover a battery only if it completely stops working, while others will replace the battery if it falls below a certain capacity, usually 70% of the original, while still under warranty.

    Isn’t that a miss leading statement electric is more efficient than gas as from what I’ve read gas delivers more efficient power for the money. Im all for the use of hybrids not so keen all electric.

    • @je1921
      @je1921 7 месяцев назад +4

      Nope, Clark is correct. 70 - 75 % of burned gas is wasted as heat while electric motors are extremely efficient. Yes, 2-3% of the electric is used for hvac, etc but all the rest is used to propel the vehicle.

    • @dpporlando
      @dpporlando 7 месяцев назад

      @@je1921Does this also take into account the additional steps in distribution and sales of gas, oil, transmission fluid?

      Also, gas-powered cars have tons of wasted motion, piston rods timing belt, cetera, almost the only thing moving on an e v is the motor.

    • @makeyourlifeeasier5794

      @je1921 Baloney, my Chevy volts range was half at freezing temps. First off the battery was much weaker from the cold, & the heater would drain more than the car. Electric cars loose their value much faster than gasoline powered cars. Nobody wants to pay for that battery that cost double the cars value. A Prius is a great car, but sorry Clark they cost much more than a gasoline powered Carolla.

    I travel a lot. I cannot think of one person I know who use their covid money to get on a plane. This perception that the money was used frivolously, has got to stop. What you should be complaining about is the people who got covid money who were not supposed to get it. Thus draining the fun much quicker than needed. For example, the two Texas billionaires who got 32 million in covid relief, and used it to buy other companies that were suffering during the covid situation. Ted Cruz reworked the rules for them, even though their employees were considered essential. Why? Because they had previously contributed about five million dollars to his campaign.

    • @TulsaDude
      @TulsaDude 7 месяцев назад

      By Covid money, I think he meant the money people didn't spend on traveling during that time. As in, lots of people stayed at home and saved money they would normally have used on vacations. Now, they're spending that money. That was true for my family
