Couple of things. Rocker caps are easily removed with some heat from a blow torch, and use of a special tool on an impact wrench. No special tool, simply use an 1/8 pin punch on the outside of the cap. Aluminium mudguards something like a 650 twin are guaranteed to fail, unless they are very carefully mounted, using rubber washers to reduce vibration, and dont have rear number plate/tail light fitted to them directly.

The good thing about chunky parts is that you can use fairly heavy duty procedures on them, I used to work in heavy industry back in the UK, and we would have done something similar to get those caps out. Always a pleasure watching your relaxed style Will, usually while having a morning coffee - bike is looking great, can't wait for the finale 🤓

A great update Will. The oil tank really suits and looks good for being a little further inboard. Well done on successfully removing the Mazac covers, that stuff is chocked full of zinc and is trying to corrode straight from the mould. I'm glad you got the deburring done. My day job is Rotary Wing Engineering and I deal with fatigue and fretting in almost every thing I do! Helicopters are the 650 Triumphs of the skies! Thanks for mentioning my channel, much appreciated.
    Best wishes, Dean.

Just stumbled onto your channel just this week. Brilliant. You've made me get the bike out from under the tarp and stand there rubbing my chin wondering what to do with it. Then it got bloody cold, and I went back indoors and watched some more of your channel!

Ha brilliant stuff mate, a bike out the tarp even for a fraction of a second is a result! The cold is testing to say the least.

Just wandered into a Barnes and Noble (book store here in the states) for the first time in years and there you were in a Classic Bike mag. \m/

This build is how they used to be before all the fuss over originality and perfection, interesting project.

Really good problem solving, I bet there was some bedtime pondering before tackling them issues head on.

Nice looking bike my friend love the way the bikes aren't powder puff show queens, and that you take them out and put them through their paces. I looked at buying a 1966 tt special a number of years ago, but the provinence was dodgy and when your spending that sort of money it needs to be legit. Now I'm older and wiser I would rather build something that I could use but in the same desert racer style. Keep on wrenching 👍

Great episode Will. Very interesting content. I watch a lot of bike videos on youtube and have not seen that rockerbox fix before.
Fingers crossed for your 2K pre xmas target.

Great series of videos 👍🏼 So useful as i have just picked up a 64 Triumph bike - 6T frame with TR6C engine. There are lots of jobs I want to do and look forward to some classic “tinkering” - which will be such a contrast to my main bike a Rocket 3R 😁
One question I have is supporting the bike to work on it. I see in this video you have a red lift under the frame? Mine has a centre stand and side stand but would like to be able to lift it so both wheels are up. Do you have any tips regarding lifts or recommendations for the one you use? Cheers Simon

Hi Will. Great channel. Is there a way to reassemble 60s and 70s Triumph's engines in a way they won't leak oil at all? More modern gaskets perhaps? Or is machining required? Fancy embarking on a project like your 650 but unclear on what is to be expected in terms of engine reliability and what it would take. Thanks

It’s not a proper project until you’ve bled for it 😉

can't beat 'speed holes'. get creative, different diameters, chamfered edges. Got m'self going now, off to the speed hole shop for a 1/4lb of assorted sizes.
