I agree with the bonding by cleaning the doll. I found an Italian omade doll in a thrift store. When I purchased it at $2, I thought I would clean her up and then resell her. I cleaned her up, and there she stands on one of my doll shelves. I also keep wondering if I collect because of missing dolls in my childhood, but since there are others in my family that collect dolls, like my grandmother, maybe that is more of an influence.
I bet it's a combination of the two - I know a lot of people who collect who also had parents/grandparents that collected and I think that definitely has an influence.
I have Barbies, Rainbow High, Monster High, Paola Reina and a lot of Ruby Red Galleria dolls. See you at BJDC Texas next week. So excited to be going. I feel like a kid before Christmas!

I started out collecting historical dolls as a child. I lived in England when I was young and would save my allowance and go to the local toy store and buy a doll. I had never seen a Barbie then, so when I came back to the states, my friends had them. I fell for them, so then it was Barbies. I went through a period where I thought only kids had dolls but as I got much older started collecting again. Now I have Barbies, Smart Dolls, Pasha, Rainbow High (just cause their so darn cute) AG and other artist dolls. A never ending passion.
I love when collectors make beginners guides. I collect fashion dolls and have for years but even I love this kind of advice. I have my eyes on Licca! Oh I love shadow high , fantastic recommendation btw. Affordable and stunning. Thank you for a fab video ❤ I'm UK based btw 🤗

I was just about to get the Sindy with the afro but they had all sold out and I refuse to pay eBay prices. They are adorable. They make me giggle as they have such serious little faces! 😅
Anyone who loves dolls can have a collection. Even if you are on a budget. Great video Allison. I'm more hopeful now . Knowing I can expand my doll collection and I can afford it!🙏🌹🌹
Absolutely 💜💜 my collection consisted of dolls from my childhood and flea market finds up until about 12 years ago. I still love the thrill of finding something exciting on the shelves at Walmart or discovering a treasure at the thrift store 💜💜

Shadow High and Rainbow High are my personal favorite doll lines and I have a complete Shadow High collection and a decent Rainbow High collection. I also own 5 sets of Storm Twins because they are my personal comfort characters and dolls and I got most of my sets of them on sale. And I feel like Our Generation is the best budget line for 18" dolls.🖤💜

What's really fun is the new MH you bought are brother and sister. Same family. Too bad you didn't find the new Catty Noir, she's a curvy doll. I've done the MTM curvy body swap. It was a little tricky because the Fashionista has flocked hair. I have an eighteen inch doll that I got from Canadian Tire. Harper's got the jointed soft body like the AG, and her hands and feet resemble them a lot too. Her hair is lovely and doesn't get static or tangles, and her face is very lively and sweet. Most of her wardrobe comes from Wal Mart. And she's a great size for days when I go into compulsive cuddle mode, so she's staying with me even though I'm liquidating most of the doll collection. The other eighteen inch doll I have is from Daisy Kingdom and looks a lot like Patsy. I still have to dress her, because she's a little plump for most eighteen inch doll clothes. And yup, I have dolls that I didn't get as a kid. Like Strawberry shortcake.
I love to window shop with You, Allison! At some pointe I let go my Rainbow High dolls and time to time I feel to need to get one for my collection... But they are all so fab I can`t choose... Maybe, naturalista as I am, Olive or Rosie... Also, I have one Kruseling but I kind of want them all LOL

Now I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a grown man who loves stuff like Monster High, Strawberry Shortcake and Rainbow Brite. I would love to start collecting the dolls for these shows. I feel like it's because I want to fill in some kind of void, because I never got to collect dolls as a kid. Is that a bad reason to start collecting them?

You definitely don't! I love inexpensive dolls and thrift finds and they make up at least half of my collection if not more 😆
