In 1956 , when I was in the first grade, I feel in love with dollhouses. My class had a lovely dollhouse in it. The house was tin and the furnishing were plastic. I finished my class work without dawdling so I could play with the dollhouse. It made a lasting impression on me.

I am unusual in that I am a man in his early fifties who has discovered the wonderful world of dollhouses. Though I am not into dolls I do understand the draw of miniatures. It is the magic of imagination and of creating your own little world. To me it's more accurate to use the term scale model than dollhouse. I am currently on my first dollhouse build. It is a three story Venetian style palazzo started from scratch. It is filled with all kinds of exotic things from all over the world from my travels. It truly is a great deal of fun to work on it. And if I do say so myself, it has turned out to be fantastic! It is wonderful to see and take pride in your own craftsmanship. I will probably be involved in this hobby for a very long time.
I agree that the antique dollhouses do have a special charm to them.

Hope you have kept at it over the year! I agree that scale model is more accurate. A vital component to the dolls house is scale. You can't have a great looking house if you don't pay attention to scale in every item, including thickness which can be quite a challenge. It is getting the scale properly that makes a house stunning in my opinion. In this video, they point out that fit isn't necessary and objects can still be pretty and meaningful without that scale. I can see that, but my own house, I want to be 1/12, or 1/24, or 1/144 scale

Tom Pinion , I love doll houses too. But I like to play with scale. There is fantasy there for me. But still it all has to be designed right.

I'm also a man who turned 50 that just finished my first miniature house. I'm a carpenter by trade and always wanted to build a miniature house. I call my house an old southern american farm house. I made all the furniture myself. It is basically a two story house with a wing off the back.

I am already 26 yrs old and I thought I'm too old for dollhouses but i cant deny that i still love dollhouses, dolls and miniatures... people like her are my motivation and inspiration to not hold back what you truly desires and love the most.. as long as youre not stepping down others or hurting anyone so why not??!

At the age of 60 I am finally making my dolls house and I realise that it can satisfy me in ways real scale does not ! is that strange ? As I discover the great many miniature enthousiasts I find a kindred spirit, slow methodical sharing people as though the feelings attached to them have been scaled up as the rooms are scaled down.

I am 70 and have been building dollhouse scenes only for 4 years. When I was a child, I was always jealous of other girls having dollhouses so now since I have the time & money, I indulge.

This loud, abrupt, raucous music is absolutely awful. It’s jarring and ill fitting and destroys the flow of the narrative terribly.
