Small wonders: Dollhouses

Some may view them as tools of child's play, but the appeal of dollhouses is far-reaching. For 88-year-old sex therapist Dr. Ruth Westheimer, they're therapeutic. Correspondent Chip Reid joins Dr. Ruth at "Small Stories," an exhibit of dollhouses at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.

I just made a dollhouse last year during covid (I'd always wanted one) then refurnished it this year when I was going through mourning for my dad. I called it "my safe, perfect world" and even said it was my "dollhouse therapy." I didn't know that it was really a thing but I am feeling much better. Thank you little doll family! I guess we're never too old for play therapy.

So not too old. There are a lot of channels here with miniatures. For Barbie size quick cheap projects MyFroggyStuff is a good starting point. Bentley House Minis is good for standard scale. Darkest Raven Designs does amazing things with a darker flair, lots of Harry Potter inspired stuff. People are doing tiny stuff, I think she does some in matchbooks. Lot of people are making book nooks. You can start with a cardboard box and make a room.

Dr Ruth your dollhouse is beautiful and I used to love to watch your show on sex when I was younger cuz he had very good tips I think one time I called into you when I lived in Colorado that was many moons ago Dr Ruth now my 60s and I still love dolls and doll houses and doll furniture and actually I have some vintage doll furniture that I have to set up my doll house to put my doll stuff in it cuz I'll be like you in my 80s or 90s still wanting to play with my dog house if I live to be that old thanks for sharing your dot house with us Dr Ruth that's beautiful and you are a beautiful woman also
