If these Rondalla group from New York appreciate and value our traditional music and instruments how much more us Pinoy? All I see new generations are into hip hop and breakdance if not Pokemon. Tangkilikin Ang sariling atin.
I have been recording a Rondalla group on Bohol... (Dimiao Chilrden's Rondalla) and its very difficult to get the locals to pay attention to the work we do. They are completely stuck in mid-80's karaoke songs. (I wish I could hear some good hip hop here.. lol).
90's generation ako at tumataas ang balahibo ko sa rondalla. Ironically yung mother ko hindi na-aapreciated yung ganitong tugtugin kaya nae-alien ako sa mother ko.
How nostalgic I am feeling right now ha ha ha. Bring back my youth l want to experience again the feeling you get every time you hear this music yeaks.
This just puts me in the mood to balance three lit glasses - one on each hand, and one on top of my head, and dance to my heart's delight. Beautiful rendition!
It's nice to hear this music now that I am 67 years we had this music during our folkdance in our commencement exercised in elementary days what a wonderful music
I always play this video, when my mind need some time to relax, i will just close my eyes and listen. and i still love this same when i first saw it. great vid.
It's remind me we were dance this Pandanggo sa Ilaw when I was in Grade 4 only. It was our Achievement Day back in 1990's. We dance with three glasses with candles each glass in it, one glass on the head and the other two in both hands. I dropped once of one glass during our practice. Hehehe .. Our teacher was so masungit.
I remember my granduncle in IL. He was married to a Russian woman for a very long time. Every time he listened to his Hi-Fi with his vinyl LP, he, according to his wife, Aunt Selma, sigh and says: "Nobody loves him anymore". My aunt will always says; He, Uncle Peping" gets homesick". Its only the new generation of Filipinos in the US , that I have seen, still keeping our songs and especially dances alive. At least in weddings and fiestas in the US.
A million THANKS CORNELL: OUR UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES WAS PATTERNED AFTER CORNELL! MY DEAN WAS A FELLOW THERE AND SHE WAS SO SMART...APPRECIATE YOUR INTEREST IN OUR CULTURE!!!! GODSPEED!
You Guys are great ! Not very many Pilipinos know how to play these instruments. Used to be exclusive for the elite during the Spanish time. And still is because of your interest and admiration of the art and music (of the philippines especially)
Burt Amor exclusive? There was a time when Rondalla was played in every party, wedding, fiesta, despidida etc. All instruments used were made locally. To this day, there are small rondalla performers in the Visayas from common folk. Elite?
sometimes i cry,our orchestra was dissolve due to its many member are already dead and the new generations play the hard rock,no more 14 strings and big bass with big strings. so so sad :( and regretful.from Philippines
Sana nga bumalik sa panahon ng kastila eh maayos sila pag kastila pa ang pilipinas ngayon magiging maayos ang mga pangulo, gobernador at senado ngayon puro korupsyon na eh
@kebyonatin Send me your email and I will send you information on the traditional clothing we wear. The instruments are banduria, laud, octavina, guitar and bass.
may i ask what are the names of the instrument they're using. bcoz i might present this video for my music class which we had to present music in our culture. thank you. ^_^
Hi ! just saw this Rondalla performance, took so long for you to get a reply. Hope not overdue for your music class. The instruments used; Start with guitara , bass guitar or bajo, octavina, Banduria and Laud. most of the instruments have 12 strings. If someone dislike or corrected my reply, sorry If there's some errors. wish you've replied to this earlier not when I replied to this 7 years later. Thanks.
