    Im wondering where the hell that umbrella vending machine was when I was in Tokyo during a typhoon and had to walk 20 blocks to the hotel because the trains stopped because of high winds. Was great fun. The front desk of the hotel, was really really concerned when we walked in, and gave us towels to dry off on in the lobby. And many many other things. Japan is just simply awesome.

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  10 лет назад

      Hah, yea, that's so Japan. They were handing out towels after the GWAR show we saw in Tokyo, that was pretty amazing. -Eric

    Have you ever realized, that when you see an item on a Japanese menu, that the food usually comes out looking exactly what it looked like in the picture. not always, but a majority of the time.
    I noticed the ice cream that you guys were holding, looked exactly like the picture in the background on the side of the ice cream truck.

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  10 лет назад +2

      Haha, yes. It's amazing. It's even more shocking when you go back to the states and the awfully prepared mess of food comes out, it's like offensive. -Eric

    Pretty. Husband and I went to a similar park in Ibaraki-ken called Hitachi Seaside Park. It has a hill of purple flowers (I'll post a video sometime). They didn't smell though. And there we no frogs. But they did have flower ice cream!
    Totally agree with Kyde on the smokers!

    Wow. That flower field was very psychedelic.^^
    That umbrella vending machine is clever.
    I saw it on a program called "Begin Japanology".
    They had an entire episode on vending machines and their history.
    It's a a show in English made by NHK World.
    There are a ton of episodes here on RUclips well worth a watch. :)
    My favorite is the Episode about Kei Cars ;)

      Kyde and Eric I freaking love "Begin Japanology" and now they're doing a new series, "Japanology Plus" that delves into a lot of old topics on a different level. NHK World is awesome stuff. There's also decent programs about stuff specifically in Tokyo and also a weird "lunch time" show that can be fun too, among others. One thing I really wish they did, however, is not dub over the native Japanese speakers. I'd rather see the raw footage subbed so I can get a better understanding of what they actually said compared to a text translation.

    xD I never really thought about the fact that the Japanese drinks I buy in the Asian import store here in Canada, can also be found in Japanese vending machines. I spotted one in the panning shot when you were showing the vending machines, leading up to the one with umbrellas.
    It seems so stupid when I think about it, but it's just not something I guess I'd think about normaly, and it seems I know nothing about what's popular and or common in Japan., so I guess I may have assumed I was getting some cheap brand nobody's heard of?
    The drink is a Green Tea made by a company called "Ito En" or "Itoen", hard to tell cause there's an ambiguous gap between the O and E in the Romanji...
    Anywho, since I now know you can get it there, Itoen/Ito En makes an amazing bottled jasmine green tea, great on hot days as a replacement for water if you want something just as sugar free as water.
    Seems like whenever I go to a store with weird(to me) drinks and snacks, I have to get something I've never tried before... That tea was one of the good ones I tried randomly!

      @kydeanderic  10 лет назад +1

      marklenthecool Hah, that's funny. We still walk into stores all the time and find things we've never tried...it can be dangerous for the pocketbook to say the least. -Eric

    Tanuki-soba is soba noodle soup with crumbs of Tempura butter, which is called "Tenkasu." So why do they call this noodle soup Tanuki? There are many different theories. Tanuki is Japanese Raccoon dogs which had been believed to trick humans alongside with Fox, Kitsune in Japanese, because they were very cunning animals. One of the most popular noodle soup dishes is Kitsune-udon, which is Udon noodle soup with skin of deep fried Tofu, which color resembles the Fox fur, and also the Fox serve the deity called "Inari" which favorite food is the deep fried Tofu. Therefore udon/soba with the skin of the deep fried Tofu is called "Kitsune-udon/soba." So opposed to "Kitsune udon/soba", this dish was named "Tanuki udon/soba." The other popular belief is that the other popular Udon/Soba is Tempura udon/soba, which is of course noodle soup with Tempura. The main parts, like shrimp, fish and veggies, of Tempura is called "Neta", this word is used for Sushi as well and the fish part of Sushi is "Neta." In Tanuki soba, the main parts of Tempura are missing, only the butter part, which is "Neta-nuki" means that the main parts omitted. So Tanuki soba was originally "Neta-nuki" soba, and eventually became to be called "Tanuki-soba."

    holy crap!!! that tunnel looks low. Man If I lived in Tokyo Id have new bumps on my head due to low ceilings I'm 6'-2" tall then damn door ways scary man ill have a concussion every hour lol. lol I should wear a construction helmet while in Tokyo lol. I am planning on visiting Tokyo to do some real estate investments. Hey Eric Id rent to you guys no need for guarantors thingy. I don't do all that red tape crap we're Americans we know how its done bro hams. I am planning on buying in shibuya, ginza and roppongi. shibuya will be a private house for me when I visit Tokyo. ginza and roppongi are apartments for rent most likely 2 bed room apartments. I was contemplating if I should go out to shinjuku its a bit far from central Tokyo. so let me know if you guys need a place to rent? and if you know xpats in Tokyo "must be chill like you guys i will flip the f out if i find holes in my walls and my place is trashed. I'd have to crack open a can of woop ass out on who ever done it.

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  10 лет назад

      alan lau We aren't looking for a place, but thanks. Shinjuku is about as central to Tokyo as you can get, not sure what you mean about that. I think it's more central than Roppongi or Ginza, not that they are far out or anything. Remember train accessibility is what defines "central" in Tokyo, not literally being in the center. -Eric

    • @frenchfrieso7
      @frenchfrieso7 10 лет назад

      yeah but I am looking to rent to people who just want to walk to work no biking no trains. and when people get plastered in roppongi all they have to do is stagger to the building elevator and they're almost home no need to take cab or public transportation. I guess the demographics I am targeting are the young professionals who work hard play even harder and when they play too hard then they can get home with no problems lol. They should be making big bucks in order to pay the rent I am proposing lol. I have 2 condos in mid town Manhattan and a condo in flushing queens where you think the market analyst will rather rent at? its a matter of convenience and its not our rationalization of what is convenient its the renters. I think ginza is more higher class not for the drunks its more of a status symbol that they can afford to live in luxury. shibuya is just for the everyday wage earner i think. just like what i think of shinjuku
      shibuya and shinjuku like the Williamsburg of NYC. I've been seeing this girl in tokyo off and on I think its time to make an honest women out of her I know for sure she'll say yes she looks in tiffany's every chance she gets. to get to the point you guys want to be my witness at city hall? and of course you are invited to the ceremony and what ever she has planned in that crazy mind of hers. send my ass to the poor house. i think the ring she wants is a 2.5 ct princess cut set in tiffany platinum ring that shit running over 50k SOB!!!!! I woudl reconsider this shit. that is too expensive WTF!!! reality just set in lol
