@@sc1 You only have to move the hour hand to change the date,. The hour hand can move independently from sec and GMT hand. I like your video. I have 3185 16710. I am also thinking about getting the 127610 BLRO but can not decide if I should let the 16710 go. It's a very difficult decision. The thing is that the 3285 has parachrom spring and 3185 does not have a parachrom spring. I do not know what will i do. The 16710 looks great
Nice video. The 16710 is a beautiful watch and neo-vintage rolex have so much charm that most new models lack (too big and too blingy). I would definitely keep it. Older GMTs look great on aged Italian brown leather straps as well as the bracelets.
Great video 👌🏼 The watch is fabulous Steel bracelet of course, and I believe if you switch to the Jubilee you will totally change your mind about whether you keep it or not, the Jubilee is classic and super comfortable on these vintage watches, and that rattling sound is fantastic IMHO 😍 Good luck and wish you the best ✌🏼
I am on the verge of buying another watch I’m between a newer 2023 submariner and a Pepsi like yours 16710. It would be my everyday tool watch for many years.
The new Submariner is super modern. Bigger in size than the Pepsi 16710. so it depends on wrist size. the older Pepsi is more comfortable on my small wrist. but I really love the submariner too.
Great video! Bracelet! Keep the watch, a little bit like a beater, not yours originally and no papers. Won’t be so collectable so you don’t have to worry about scratches. Just a beautiful watch to wear.
Especially on the strap, no concern about scratching the bracelet, and it can be more of a casual watch. And it can look deceptively low-end/average to some people.
You can solve the fit issue by switching the bracelet. Attach the part that was near the 6 o'clock position to the 12 o'clock lugs, and vice versa. (minute 8:30).
The bezel feels a lot better if you pop it off and add a little fomblin grease to the click spring. Not as firm as modern stuff, but much smoother. Personally I love the 120 click bezel over the 24 click bezel because it allows for more flexible use. You can time minutes just as accurately as a Sub, but you can also time long plane flights by timing off the GMT hand. Plus some places don't have time zones in even hours. Super niche use case, but still nice if you find yourself there.
As the present value is not huge, I would be keeping it for now and putting it away for a while. It sounds as though you’re resigned to letting it go, but it’s a sort of thing that I would regret in the future, a key plus for me, would be ability to change out the bezel insert. And just wearing it without worrying too much about scratches. By the way I’d stop worrying about damaging the lugs. It’s a lot more fun changing out straps and bracelets on the watch that I have no intention of selling, any time soon. When it goes back for a service in years to come, that will be sorted anyway. The only negative thing for me would be the fit on the bracelet. But I much prefer the watch on the bracelet. You need to speak to a watchmaker to see whether the bracelet could be modified in some way to get a better fit. Jingle jangle of the old bracelets is all part of its charm. Oh, and it helps if you call it pre loved, rather than second hand or used : ) it’s your watch now, especially having had it cleaned and serviced. Enjoy…Of course if you need to free up capital then all bets are off…
I’m not resigned yet, still ruminating. I would likely lose money if I sold it now, but that’s not a major factor. I might end up just keeping it as a non-fuss Rolex. Keeping open the option to try new straps or different bezel inserts. They don’t make Rolex like this anymore…
I'm of the opposite opinion. Vintage Rolex often feels like garbage. Comparable to a modern $200 Seiko. Bracelets are flimsy, they lack tactile feedback of the new ones and not to mention the inferior movements when compared to post ceramic stuff. I do like the fuzzy vintage feeling they give but the objective quality is not there.
And once that aluminum bezel starts to fade it looks unbelievable. If I was you I’d get a faded bezel and put it on that puppy. That would be the business
In your shoes I would go to a great restorer. Have them fully laser weld and refinish. I'd also have them remove one of the 'permanent' links to make it comfortable you can also get half links aftermarket
A tan leather strap would look better imo. I think you’d be able to source an OEM Jubilee if you went hunting, that option would likely fix your fit issues as it can be more finely adjusted on the 12/6 o’clock ends due to the shorter links. Ive heard of some people being able to get yh direct from Rolex. A jubilee bracelet would also help to further distinguish the piece from your modern BLRO and therefore cement its place in your collection.
I think I would love it more on the Jubilee. I was frustrated when my AD wouldn’t sell me one, and the Rolex Service Center would not swap it out either.
I'm pretty sure that the 19 mm leather strap isn't the answer to your issues concerning this watch. That 1 mm gab doesn't look good. I think you should either buy a good 20 mm leather strap or then change the bracelet back to the watch.
I have the solution for you ! Thank me later ! Leave 5 links on 12 side and five links os 6’ side and change the clasp direction. For small wrists best configuration is 5 on 12 and 4 at 6’ but unfortunately the 5 digits Rolex cannot have less than 5 links on 6’ side . The best way is to change clasp orientation. Second solution is to remove one permanent link from 6 o’clock but you will destroy the bracelet . Try it
I was about to say the same thing. I also have small wrists and the same watch. The solution is as Dina says which is to simply reverse the bracelet and it will hang correctly in the centre of your wrist. It takes about a week to get use to closing the clasp the other way but the fix is simple and does no harm to your watch or it's value. Regarding bracelet wear you can easily recondition the original bracelet at a couple of specialist shops. I had mine done in Hong Kong where the bracelet was taken apart and cylindrical pipe was added so that the worn pins fit much tighter. Watch bracelet thus back to as new despite being 25 years of age.
SC be honest quality wise - Vintage Rolex is kinda crap compared to modern ceramic stuff? Rattling bracelets, hollow end links, poor clikcs and general tactility. I personally wasn't impressed with it.
You didn’t mention that your used watch came with a warranty card. On my one GMT with the all black bezel. The bezel would hardly turn. I used a few drops of oil that is sold by Swiss Army knife. Turned fine after that. ALSO, the screw drivers Swiss Army knife sells that slide inside the cork screw. It is an absolutely perfect fit to remove the screws for the links. Don’t trust this cheap ass metal used on some screw drivers from china. Don’t go cheap here for anyone reading this. My complaint with the Rolex crowns, non sport watches. They are way to small. Especially my day date. Now my first GMT was a gift from my dad. October third 1967. Sure it looks flimsy next to my 2022 Pepsi. But what do we expect for a 45 yr. Old Rolex. Still better for anything out there for that year. When I hold up the 1967 GMT along side the 2022 Pepsi. But that’s the idea. Comparing the difference. Side by side they both are GMTs. Open them up and that’s where the resemblance stops. Keep the bracelet on. What ever you do. For Gods sake. DO NOT SELL IT! Put it on your winder. Unless you really are only two steps from living in your car. The day you sell that watch, you will be crying. Keep it, it’s an every day fun watch.
I do not have the original card for the used GMT. I sent it to Rolex for service, and they provided a new service card (but didn’t fix the stiff bezel issue). I was getting close to reselling it, but changed my mind and kept it. I still wish I had a jubilee bracelet for it.
Looks cheap looking on a leather strap. Oyster is much nicer IMO. Putting a GMT on leather is like ordering a bud light...why would you? Buy a link and fix it.
I’m not normally a vintage watch guy, but that one isn’t too old and the condition is stellar. That may be a keeper. Keep up the great content.
design is from a different generation, but can’t complain about its condition.

Great video. I’ll say it once and I’ll say it again. Any modern Rolex cannot touch a vintage Rolex. They don’t have the charm nor the X factor.

My bezel would take a long time to fade. I will need to looking into purchasing a faded bezel. I think those are cool looking.
I quite like it on that strap, but still prefer the steel. The 16710 looks miles better then the new ceramic - the colours pop
