    I’m always blown away when adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist is optional when it’s standard on a corolla 😀

      It's a German vehicle. What do you expect? Practically everything is put as an option.

    • @welshjim22
      @welshjim22 3 года назад +13

      Cheaper cars compete with premium by chucking free stuff on as standard. Its also cheaper for emissions testing to have as few options as possible. Which is why options often come in packages.
      I like cruise control but uou can keep adaptive as an option so I don't have it. On the cars I have had with it they have been slow to react and not been easy to switch to standard cruise control.

    • @cytrynowy_melon6604
      @cytrynowy_melon6604 3 года назад +10

      @@welshjim22 Profit margins are smaller on cheap cars, so according to this logic, the cheaper cars should not have any options due to emissions, weight and cost. Audi just wants to rip you off on those bland "status symbol" cars. Simply overpriced.

    • @Superfastjellyfish669
      @Superfastjellyfish669 3 года назад +7

      But do you get all wheel drive and real leather standard on a Corolla?

    • @welshjim22
      @welshjim22 3 года назад

      @@cytrynowy_melon6604 and yet what I said is true. In fact many cheaper cars have very few options to chose from. Granted the US and European markets may differ.
      You forget with German cars your paying for a premium quality. They are significantly nicer quality inside than your average American car, French car and Japanese. Having said that in many cases those differences are getting smaller as "cheap cars" improve and become less cheap.

    One thing to note Alex - the phone is supposed to go under the armrest. You plug it into the USB port there. It's roomy and the car alerts you if you accidentally left it in the car.
    I like stowing it there, since you never have to worry about it flying off the center console or off the phone mount. It fits basically any phone and is really roomy.

    It’s great that Audi implemented a heat pump into this as you noted which is a rarity in PHEVs and in some BEVs/older Teslas

    @05:14 you mentioned the GLC350e has less EV range, but it has an EPA estimate at 22 miles, 3 miles more than the Q5. The Mercedes may be down about 50hp, but it has about 140 lb-ft more of torque. I'd take the Mercedes because it overall has a better design inside and out. Also I believe MBUX is one of the best infotainment systems out maybe second to Android Automotive based systems.

    I don’t see the point of this and similar cars. I run a 2 litre diesel Skoda Superb in the UK. It averages (long term) somewhere above 50 mpg Imperial (41mpg US) on my 30 mile each way commute (mostly motorway/highway) and regularly achieves 60 mpg on a daily basis. This Q5 hybrid has no better fuel consumption than the 2005 A6 Avant 2.7 litre V6 diesel that I put more than 220.000 miles on before the Skoda. The Q5 hybrid costs more than £50,000 in the Uk...the similarly sized upcoming Skoda Enyaq 82kWh will start at under £40,000 and probably get me to my mother’s house and back (in summer) without recharging and without any tailpipe emissions.

I had the ZF in both my X5 and Q7 and thought it was very quick, smooth, and well tuned. Why add complexity with a dual clutch? One other key thing to know about the virtual cockpit; if you use Apple CarPlay, you aren’t getting the maps via the cluster (unless they changed that).

    Drove this today. Build quality is nice, the paint job is pretty ordinary for a car of this price, power is more than adequate. Really nice tight turning circle. Unfortunately, it shudders a little from a standing start and noise insulation is poor - it sounds like a metro bus when driving around side-streets and the electric motors are active, and there's plenty of road/wind noise that finds its way into the cabin at higher speeds. The transition from electric to ICE was seamless and smooth. Ride was not particularly wonderful on a bad road - although the one I drove did not have the adaptive suspension (you must order the $2200 "sports package" to get that, which also forces you to have a black interior (not my taste to sit in a dark cave, but some people like it) and also larger wheels, which may negate the benefit of the adaptive suspension anyway. The one I tested had no heads-up display and no auto-hold (apparently Audi doesn't believe in the latter, so none of their vehicles have it). No ventilated seats either. The sound system was OK, but nothing special. I am 6'2' and there was more than enough headroom, but I found the seats not very comfortable - the leather was low grade as well. I wanted very much to love it...but didn't. Oh, and BTW, the dealer told me there would be a 4-6 month lead time if I wanted to order one today: that's an outrageous amount of wait time!

    i guess I am still confused as to why an electric awd is not as sure-footed, as you say, the mechanical. today's electronics certainly should be more advanced than even a few years ago. they are running everything these days in your car.
    everything happens so fast electronically, how can a mechanical rear system be even close in reacting as anything electronic?

    At 19 EV miles and 27 MPG with a starting price of $51,00 for the plug-in hybrid is a huge fail in 2020. Why bother offering a plug-in if you can only get 19 miles in EV? And I don't think that battery pack size qualifies for the full $7,500 Federal tax credit.

    • @normt430
      @normt430 3 года назад

      Because if you live 12 miles from work and charge for free there it gives you a few miles to run errands or go out to eat. Our 2018 CT6 2.0E plug-in gets 40 miles on battery alone so we go months without using gasoline and up to 3,000 miles on a tank of gas.

    Does anyone know if Audi is still charging a yearly fee to have the instrument panel display the map detail? I know they used to charge for this, but after the BMW/Carplay dustup and BMW being shamed into ending that disgusting business practice, I wasn't sure if Audi was still doing the same thing with their map display. That really is a putrid business practice and one that needs to die.

    Just another dull and unimaginative SUV for those special SUV people. Looks just like all the other dull uninspiring bland bloated plastic prams on stilts. When you pull up at a gathering people won't be flocking to it and begging to go for a drive. It's just an appliance you use to avoid walking to soccer and school.
