Audi needs to be a lil more daring in their designs. It's a premium brand and I'm not getting that whene I see this. Genisis GV70 looks upscale and has a better presence IMO.
I'd opt for the 55 TFSI e if I was looking for a compact SUV, which is the plug-in hybrid. I'm not looking for any crossovers though. It's sedans/sports cars for me only.
Pretty good review. There is plenty of phone storage, your phone is too stupidly big. That 'firm' leather holds up very well. That's why they make it that way. I hate the tons piano black around the shifter. Piano black is always a bad design feature. I have a 2018 Q5 Premium Plus that I am mostly happy with. HOWEVER, that Google Map bullsh!% is a teaser. You get the first 2 or 3 months free. After that, Audi wants a ridiculous amount of money for it and other tech functionality. So don't buy one thinking you're getting all that tech included free forever. But the regular nav maps are just fine. Also, Apple Plus navigation apps DO NOT show up in the instrument screen, only the center screen. The Drive Mode select is mostly a joke unless you have the optional adaptive suspension.
Great review You wouldn’t want leather on the upper doors as the rain and sun. Wouldn’t hold up to the elements. I dislike the fact that a lot of cars without picking options tend to become a black blob on the interior. Doesn’t do anything regarding to compliment the inside however it’s entry level and consumer have to get why the dealers offer.
I strongly prefer the look of the 2020 Model. The old one looked a lot more luxurious snd handsome. This new one looks more sporty but loses the feeling of luxury
The Q5e variant is, with the $6712 federal EV tax credit, a better version over this standard model. Almost as fast as SQ5. Better SLine exterior, mpg or mpge, and can opt for an air suspension Great for people with short commutes and have access to free or cheap chargers at work/home
Yes. If purchased new and serviced under warranty. If purchased second hand without all the papmering I would be a bit wary. Overall after first 5,000 miles of weird issues it has been perfect for 30k
The only thing I disagree with you is that the touch screen is an improvement. I liked the scroll wheel.. you can make your selections without having to look away from the road
As usual, you speak too quickly for no reason. Slow. Down. Please. The Audi q5 is 15 db quieter in the cabin than the BMW x3. That's astoundingly quiet and serene. It like a meditation chamber and calms you. It has 8% more leg room than the x3 or GLC. For men, this is huge You can spread wide on wide seats. The Dual Clutch transmission is absolutely awesome with that engine and acceleration to 50mph in Sport Dynamic (pull back on yacht handle in Dynamic to engage sport) is just over 5 seconds. With premium fuel you will after a few months pull 32mpg on the hiway and an average of 26 mpg, on par with the X3 and GLC. All three are better in real life than numbers posted. The seats are REAL leather standard on the premium plus..unlike BMW or MERC and break in soft. The steering is light and airy but in comfort mode no other SUV is quiet or relaxing as Q5. In dynamic the steering gets much heavier and the suspension firmer. It's an amazing SUV and a sales segment leader. X3 is amazing but interior is windy and loud and cramped. X3 is also expensive apples to apples. GLC looks like a Chinese rich grandmother's grocery ride. Mercedes interior is quiet but look awful to a reserved person Audi Q5 is like a really nice suit. Also more men by Audi q5 and more women buy the GLC and X3 That says something about those interior dimensions. This car is sized for men.

I'm getting this car just for myself, no kids, nothing like that but Loved to see the acceleration :D thats my favorite thing to do while driving.
Thanks for calling out Audi on the uninspired interior. The luxury quotient is quite low and I'm glad that someone finally called them on it. I also agree with your other thoughts.
Don't you just hate it when a car reviewer gets a new larger than average phone then complains about the lack of space for that new phone? How much does it cost a phone manufacturer to design a phone years in the making vs. a car manufacturer designing an entire car around a phone?
Audis for the US always seem to have the least attractive rim designs. When the new models come out, and you see pictures on the internet, it's always disappointing when you see what will be available here.
People love to complain about BMW interiors, but at least they give you leather stitching on the doors at this price point. Heck, even a Maxima does too.
They most certainly do NOT. The x3 does not have any leather on the doors, where this has leather on the armrest and shifter and real leather seats. The bmw has leatherette seats and requires $2000 for real leather. The x3 is the competitor to this not a 4 series sedan.
I think o heard you say that the Q8 is just above the Q5 in price. That’s not quite true. The Q7 is the next jump in price, though its smaller than the Q8, which is the most expensive among Audi SUVs.

I haven't bought a new SUV in years and now that I'm looking, I'm very surprised to hear so many talk about SUV's in the performance segment as I didn't realize that SUV's would be part of that class. When I think of an SUV, I think of comfort and luxury before performance. Now I have to think about performance too! However, as you mentioned, I would use it for every day and open road driving (since I live in the middle of nowhere), not for paddle shifting, etc. Luxury first for me!
What I don't like in 2021 Q5 comparing to pre facelift is that Audi moved 360 camera and ACC to Premium Plus package which is great, however, they put this ugly and not practical piano black plastic on the console and also removed a knob button! So using the infotainment system via the touchscreen only when you are driving is almost impossible (to do it safe). So they just went cheaper on the materials while upgrading the tech. The other thing is camera resolution, Audi upgraded infotainment system, put a larger screen BUT they left old cameras with relatively low resolution. I have the same on my Audi A4 2018. However, when you look at your backup camera view on this larger screen picture is stretched and looks really cheap. Like in Mazda CX-5 really.
I don’t get it, I feel like Audi just took from mid 2000s Volvo styling blanded that down and added modern features and half of the Olympic Rings on the grille.

2021 Audi Q5 has a MAJOR design flaw and a SIGNFICANT SAFETY ISSUE that Audi is fully aware of, doesn’t have a fix yet, so haven’t issued a recall or informed exiting owners. What’s worse is that they are still selling the car without disclosing the problem to prospective owners.
Those "fog lights" look absolutely horrendous. They're like a housing in a housing that take up 1/4 of the front facia, then to add insult to injury they actually don't have any lights in them... Audi's design language has gotten a little bland over the years, but it still looks handsome otherwise. Also for the first time ever i think that larger screen looks worse. I LOVE the 8.3 inch widescreen with the wheel on my 2017 A4, this screen doesn't look proportional to the interior. Looks odd. Why is that digital cockpit flanked by 3 inches of bare cheap looking plastic on both sides? Isn't that where the fuel/temperature gauges usually are?
I don't like the media display sticking up over the dash. I have the 2020 audi q3 which has the media display below the temperature controls, which is much more logical and practical. I think audi dropped the ball on this one.
I agree, and look what all cars do now... They all have screens above the dash. I ended up NOT buying the car that i wanted just because of the screen sticking up a little too much. Couldn't even see half the hood.
I hate that Audi totally redesigned the interiors and exteriors of Q3 and Q7 but left the Q5 totally unchanged except for the grill. HATE that screen jutting out from the dash like a sore thumb.. it should've been integrated like Q3 and Q7. I was eagerly waiting for a redesigned Q5, but was horribly disappointed. I'll pass..
I’ve been shopping for a compact SUV over the last few weeks. It’s a weird time we live in when a 2021 Mazda and Outback have nicer interiors than an Audi. The Audi felt like it was solid but as far as the plushness goes, the Q5 doesn’t deliver like it used to
@@yes8032 that’s what I thought too but it’s true. The plushness of a Subaru Outback is more than that of an Audi.. I never thought I would say that too
@@Fideliohoh Definetly drove all of them... I’m not saying you have to agree with me. I’m just saying, the soft points were softer in the Subaru, there’s more leather and stitching. The audis interior was nice, but going odd first impressions and actual leather surfaces, the Subaru surprisingly had more. They’ve really stepped their game up
All the maintenance on the german suv's are outrageous. I love the look of the Audi and the ride as well. But, everyone knows a DCT is going to give you problems. We’ve had a 2018 SQ5 since Nov 2017, and let me tell you, what a piece of garbage. There’s always something broken on it, the interior feels and sounds cheap. Creaking everywhere in the interior, and many electrical and mechanical failures. We’ve owned a few Audi’s and we will never buy another one.
I have had no problems like that..maybe you got early production? I had some sensor issues with the Cat and warranty replaced all of them. Otherwise a flawless vehicle and quiet and rock solid.
@@Fideliohoh Here is the list of all the issues we have had with it, keep in mind it only has 32,000Km: -Three flat tires, because they are the stupid 21inch ones; -Armrest broke, required replacement; -Overheating and CEL, required a cooling bleed procedure; -4 recalls; -Both front window regulators have been replaced 4 times each, due to either making noise or not functioning; -Overheating and CEL once again, this time they replaced the thermostat; -Both rear reading lights failed; -Passenger front window switch failed, required replacement; -Gas cap failed, causing a CEL; -Sunroof seals failed, allowing water intrusion; -Brake pedal required replacement, because it was making annoying squeaking sounds; -All 4 shocks/struts were just replaced last week due to clunking and a very unsteady ride. This vehicle is not the only example in the family of poor quality of Audi's, we had a 2012 S4 before this one and that had its fair share of issues including various trim pieces breaking, clutch pedal switch, slave cylinder, master cylinder and release bearing failure, vacuum pump failed, power steering hose leaked, fuel rail required replacement due to leaking, thermostat once again, exhaust flex piped needed replacing due to rattling noise, blower motor failed, glove box kept falling off, required replacement and the biggest one was excessive oil consumption. We needed to add 1 quart every fuel up. It was diagnosed as basically needing a new engine, to the tune of $17,000. That is why we opted to trade it in for the SQ5. One of our relatives had a 2011 Q5 2.0T, which was plagued with engine problems such as excessive oil consumption once again, it was covered under a special warranty program; they replaced the block, turbo charger and pistons. At 105,000 miles, the timing chain went. This required a new engine, once AGAIN, totalling $11.000. They fixed it, don't know why. They have since traded it in on a much higher quality, Lexus RX350. Hate to say it but most of the new models look like the screen is an after thought. Can I glue a tablet on the dash of my 76 chevy?
thats called cypertruck
That’s just the style and trend. Where else are they supposed to mount a screen so that’s it’s high enough to see and keep eyes on the road?
In my Audi I can push a button to hide the screen. It's motorized in the dash.
@@gwc4020 exactly Garry I don’t get why people are so fixed on those screens! Most of them are motorized and lower out of sight with a simple button! I leave mine up tho. Doesn’t bother me

I’m surprised how late Audi allowed the reviews to be posted. These have been at dealers since mid-October. Also, the power tilt/telescopic steering wheel comes in the Prestige package. I agree the materials inside aren’t the best which is why I went for the Macan.
Really, they have power tilt tele? I have never seen it on any q5

The blackout package fixes that..

Why almost all new models for all brands are getting rid of fog lights???
It still has fog lights. They are located in the headlight housing.
The fog lights are built into the fancy headlights now it's really better than the lower fig lights. Penetrates fog and shows the road corners.

Judging from the interior now I can understand why a lot of people don't consider Audi as a Tier 1 luxury brand quite yet.
Q5 is same car since 2016/2017 it just got the facelift but it get nicer interior in 2023 with the touchscreens or hyper screen. The A6, A8, Q8 is newer products

Audi needs to be a lil more daring in their designs. It's a premium brand and I'm not getting that whene I see this. Genisis GV70 looks upscale and has a better presence IMO.
They will with the next one E-tron GT and Q4 is newer designs but they EV.

Have you done a review on the Q5 55 TFSI PHEV?
Why the Autohold function is always absent in any Audi products in North America?
You always think like how I think about certain cars. Eg., the interior of the Audi Q5 is no longer is feels luxurious. Thanks for the review.
Are you going to do a video on Audi Q5 plug in hybrid anytime soon?
The lease deals on this car are in fact amazing.
My wife and I are in the market for a used Q5 for our second car. You can get these cars for really good value for only 1 or 2 years old.
You could also get a good deal by leasing. Not a bad option to look into.

I'd opt for the 55 TFSI e if I was looking for a compact SUV, which is the plug-in hybrid. I'm not looking for any crossovers though. It's sedans/sports cars for me only.
@@snakeeyes9246 I drive a 2016 WRX so we have the sports car covered, but we need something bigger for road trips and for when we grow our family.
Great review
You wouldn’t want leather on the upper doors as the rain and sun.
Better SLine exterior, mpg or mpge, and can opt for an air suspension
Great for people with short commutes and have access to free or cheap chargers at work/home
Is the Q5 reliable?
How would you do that, You need to look at the screen with or without the knob and regardless of the touchscreen or not. Are you high?
Interrior reminds me of Rav4
How? He owns a Rav and didn’t draw that conclusion
For men, this is huge
You can spread wide on wide seats. Mercedes interior is quiet but look awful to a reserved person
Audi Q5 is like a really nice suit. Also more men by Audi q5 and more women buy the GLC and X3
That says something about those interior dimensions. This car is sized for men.
Solution: Slow down the video.
I hope the DSG doesn't ever get replaced by the ZF8
everyone hates the tablet... but I actually dont mind it especailly going from car that cant even play music via bluetooth.. lol. I love technology but I dont think I'd personally want too much of it in my car, nor would i want all of the screens that are in he q7 for example but thats just me. I test drove the 2020 and that's what sold me over all of the other cars~ Thank you for this review. I'm getting this car just for myself, no kids, nothing like that but Loved to see the acceleration :D thats my favorite thing to do while driving.
How do you put a bike rack on it?

This may be petty but I miss you saying if the storage on the doors are hard touch plastic or not.
So true always those wide cheap looking silver rims
Leather stitching as an indication of luxury is overrated. Using quality materials is more important.
People love to complain about BMW interiors, but at least they give you leather stitching on the doors at this price point. Heck, even a Maxima does too.
Yea bmw interiors are always good
They most certainly do NOT. The x3 does not have any leather on the doors, where this has leather on the armrest and shifter and real leather seats.
The bmw has leatherette seats and requires $2000 for real leather. The x3 is the competitor to this not a 4 series sedan.

The front of this 2021 Q5 looks really outdated
I think there going back to 2007 because people are complaining that they don't like futuristic.. they want the same style for the next 100 years lol
My question is, "Is it really so important to shave off 1/10 or 2/10's of a second? 99% of people will use it as an everyday kind of vehicle. Personally people will seek that nice available torque to keep momentum going either in the city or open road driving.
They need to get rid of that closeout Interior design.
I don’t get it, I feel like Audi just took from mid 2000s Volvo styling blanded that down and added modern features and half of the Olympic Rings on the grille.

What about glc? Nothing beats Mercedes.
I guess Audi figured they could cheap out on the interior if they gave us an updated tech package. Oh well, that 2021 CX-9 looks better all the time (keep the third row folded) and you about the same quality and a regular transmission, just not the name.
Maybe try completing the scheduled maintenance and DCT won't have problems. DCT gets fluid changes every 40,000 miles, but many neglect it = problems.
Not really my DCT has been flawless. The oil needed to be changed on the quattro differential once
Too bad the north american model doesn't have the adaptive OLED taillights, that light up if a car is coming to close behind. Like in european models 😭

@@Fideliohoh Here is the list of all the issues we have had with it, keep in mind it only has 32,000Km:
-Three flat tires, because they are the stupid 21inch ones;
-Armrest broke, required replacement;
-Overheating and CEL, required a cooling bleed procedure;
-4 recalls;
-Both front window regulators have been replaced 4 times each, due to either making noise or not functioning;
-Overheating and CEL once again, this time they replaced the thermostat;
-Both rear reading lights failed;
-Passenger front window switch failed, required replacement;
-Gas cap failed, causing a CEL;
-Sunroof seals failed, allowing water intrusion;
-Brake pedal required replacement, because it was making annoying squeaking sounds;
-All 4 shocks/struts were just replaced last week due to clunking and a very unsteady ride.
All of this to say, this has been our experience... BAD.
Won't be buying another one.
