I agree 100% with the review. I’m driving the second sStelvio in 3 yrs and I had no issues. It’s the 210hp diesel but electronics is basically the same across the whole range. The only issue I had with the first one was with an engine problem that was sometimes signaled by the board computer that eventually I found out to be caused by poor quality AdBkue. Apart for this no issues.i had colleagues driving VW, Audi, BMW with serious issues that required immediate service . Unlike my Stelvio. So those that keep commenting about reliability should think twice. According to a survey in the UK Alfa Giulia and Stelvio have been found more reliable than most German brands. It’s perfect ? No I would still do a better job on some materials in the interiors, but apart from that I have no remarks. And if Audi has better infotainment, we should keep in mind that it’s way cheaper to develop some software fro a fancy touch screen than a state of the art chassis like the Stelvio has. All aluminum body panels and carbon transmission shaft absorb a larger slice for the budget than a silly touch screen and power steering column. But, again, if I was to buy something different I would definitely put the Q5 at the top of my list
I looked at both and went with the Stelvio. The Alfa is much more dynamic in its driving and puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. So far 15k miles and its been perfect. Winter driving in Vail has been no problem but the dry handling is incredible always. Italian design is beautiful and unique.
Another important point you haven’t mentioned: on the Alfa the engine is behind the front axis what reduces significantly the weight in the front of the vehicle, making it very nimble and pleasant to drive. It’s not the case on the Audi. Thanks for sharing this nice video!
I really like both. One thing is for certain, tech gets old and outdated while a good driving experience grows an appreciation that never gets old and outdated....(unless you buy the newest version or another good driving experience.) =+)

I do love the Audi nav. cluster but Stelvio drivers absolutely love the graceful design of both the interior and exterior. The drive quality including the handling makes you fall in love every day…And the paddle shifters in dynamic manual mode is beyond amazing
I have Stelvio with that engine. One thing not mentioned here, where it excels the most compared to many other suvs is the handling and the grip it has when cornering. If you like driving sporty, but still want something a little bit higher if the ground Stelvio simply has no alternative (at least at the price level, Macan is close but much more expensive)
I’ve had my 2020 Stelvio Nero Edizione Ti sport since August. The road response is unlike anything and can handle incredible well during the West Coast winters. It feels like I have amnesia and can’t recall what I drove prior to having “Stella” in my life 😃.
I agree, both are great cars but driving an Alfa is a different thing, and I can say it according to my experience with the cars I've had since 2000: Alfa 156 > Alfa GT > BMW X1> BMW X4 > Stelvio
Once you experience the Alfa Romeo driving feeling, you can't accept anymore any other VW car. Reliability? Forget '90 alfas, these Cars are Now engineered with italian style and passion, with almost 80% parts coming fromGermany. You live just once, Enjoy driving.
Well actually it’s not so many. I remember another video showing the share by country of the components. 55% are from Italy. The rest from Germany, France, Japan, US and Canada. Where they are made is not that important. What matters is quality standards and assurance. I have many contacts with some guys that work at the Alfa plant in Cassino and I was told that quality checks and processes are up to the highest standards with nothing to envy to German makes. Some weeks ago a customer of mine said a stupid but true phrase. At least for Europe: this car is fantastic. If she had a BMW badge on it competitors wouldn’t sell any more cars. Unfortunately I have to agree. Germans have built up a reputation especially in the past 15 years and now just live on that. But trust me, I speak often to ex BMW o Mercedes owners and all say quality and reliability are not what they used to be. Ask a Mercedes owner if the fancy MBUX is so great....
Brilliant video. Really enjoyed that. I wasn't aware of the wireless charging and touch screen in the Alfa. Very tempting over here in the UK. Just as rare this side of the pond where as German mid SUVs are everywhere.
I got the alfa stelvio ti in red fantastic car Only one thing i wish if a bit louder . Handeling is fantastic and fun The ti got limited slip diff and all wheel drive but rear bias only up to 50% of torque goes to front wheels when necessary .
Had a previous generation Q5. 2.0 T and needed a new engine after 60,000 kms. Audi refused to pay and we went to court and they ended up paying. I’ll never buy an Audi again - massively overrated. I bought an Alfa Guilia QV. It’s amazing. Quality and engineering is way better than Audi.
Thank you very much Sam. Best choice of cars for comparison. I mysel love Alfas too and as Jeremy Clarkson said, every car enthusiast should own an Alfa. Cheers
@@rinatbigfish Maybe, maybe not. Porsche made a good product out of it, but the Macan is built over the multipurpose VW MLB platform. Stelvio is built over the Giorgio platform (designed by ex-Ferrari engineer) created specifically for Alfa Romeo brand re-launch with the Giulia Quadrifoglio. A platform born to be dynamically very competent with the engine sitting behind the front axle for perfect weight distribution per axle and RWD bias, which the Stelvio has.
The Stelvio is gorgeous with handling the Q5 can’t touch. The only competitor it has is the Porsche Macan, the Audi Q5 is more of a Lexus RX competitor. Very different types of cars.
@@nelly_6669 not even remotely close. Drive them and you will see what I mean. The Stelvio/Giulia are all about the driving dynamics. The Maserati is a pig.
It is impossible for a real petrolhead to drive both of these cars and finally choose Audi. I remember when I tested Stelvio, Q5, XC60 and NX. I didn't want to leave Stelvio, it was gorgeous, the way it accelerates and steers... And thanks for checking the noise level, it is very important for me but rarely verified by reviewers.
@@rrowicki9442 I have quite literally driven hundreds of cars. Almost every car you normally see on the road, I’ve driven it (more than once). The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Ti is the best bang for the buck SUV on the market.
great honest review. Thanks! I don’t know how you guys measure the boot space. In Europe the Audi has 550l. and the Stelvio 525l. That’s only 25 litres more for the Audi (4% more space).
@@SamCarLegion Also worth mentioning that you get the 550Lt of the Audi boot space is with the rear seat in the most forward position. ...but they always push it to the back position for the videos precisely to show how roomy it is for the rear passengers while still "selling" the maximum boot space which of course doesn't match the seat position. You can't have both.
I strongly considered the Porsche Macan however after driving both, I can definitely say that the Alfa is much more engaging and capable. This might surprise or even offend some but the difference was rather stark. That Macan would have been my tenth Porsche purchase. I just found the Alfa to be a better SPORTS utility vehicle. So, it’s not at all fair to call the Stelvio a baby Macan. It’s a different but equally worthy entrant into the very crowded SUV arena.
@@MauriceBln1 if you saying that Audi feel premium in the cabin, agree with you, but if you saying that Audi quality is better than Alfaromeo, I disagree....engine, trasmission, electronics and components are both in the same standard, design, drivebility, and character, The Stelvio is an other league
@@nunziogalioto1901 I meant the quality in the interior and the materials. I drove both cars. As far as the driving experience is concerned, Alfa is great.
Are you sure you checked all details in the Audi? Can you give an example? I agree that Audi interiors look great, but I checked the details and I didn’t see better materials. Assembly is possibly better, and this is typical for Audi. But new Q5 with the old one I saw a major step down in the materials. Of course if you look at it thinking that because it’s Audi it’s got to be better it’s another story..... PS I’m driving my second Stelvio and the MY 2020 has even better materials and no noise at all like some idiots try to imply....
The only thing missing with the Q5 even in 2022 is the lack of being able to add the Red Calipers when you have the Technik and the S-Line Black pkg, I think Audi should add this. It’s available for the Q5 55 TFSI e and the SQ5 so why not ? 🤷🏼♂️. Great review 👍🏻
I can mute the voice for the whole video and I know the answer which one is better. Your smile while accelerating in Alfa says everything :-) Maybe the infotainment is slower in Stelvio. But look at this tablet in Audi... Would you like to look at it every single day?
Stelvio's infotainment (since 2020) is very fast. What is slow is the touch recognition panel. If you use the dial in the center console, you'll see how fast and responsive it is.
Alfas have an unbelievable driving experience, sportiveiness and design. Technology and space can be easily improved for Alfas. Though, I doubt, Audi can improve driving experience, engine and design. Germans are not good at this.
Thanks Sam, this is the video I've been looking for! The lease on my 2018 Audi Q5 ends in 6 months and I planned to get a 2021 Q5 cuz I love it that much. After watching this video, I will seriously consider the Stelvio. I just hope the current deals on the 2020 Stelvio ($12000 CDN discount and 1% finance) are still around in the summer.
They will for sure, because a bigger improvement for this model is expected for 2022. Probably a refreshed look, LED matrix front headlights (current ones got top rating because they're great, directional and all that, but they're still bi-xenon), better infotainment ...and hybrid variants with higher combined power. I'm expecting a ~400hp model in between this TI Sport and the Quadrifoglio. ...but I've decided to go for this model already. It's mature and it's awsome.
I bought a 2019 Alfa Romeo stelvio ti lusso a month ago. I absolutely love it. Only thing is my sunroof makes a radel noise in my cabin when I drive it. It doesn't make it when the roof is open only when its closed.
Great comparison, thank you for this amazing effort! I was quite surprised by the noise test, I quite frankly expected the Audio to be quieter. I test drove a Stelvio but the 2018 model and thought it was quite noisy inside but I guess they fixed it.
Yeap, that was one of the improvements since 2020. At least with the Veloce trim (or TI Sport as called there). For the base model, you still might have to pick the noise reduction package as an extra (but it's not expensive). The interiors also went up a notch and same for the central console. No more squeaking sounds. 😊
I own a base 2.0t q5, driven a 2020 Alfa Romeo 2.0t. The Alfa is faster and handles better, also looks better, but to live with everyday (I drive a lot and have 3 person family) my q5 is more practical. Mind you it’s a 2016

You had a Giulia and you don't know how to write the name of the model? 😉 Alfa Romeo updated the interiors on the models starting in 2020. They're considerably better. ...but that's only for those who like the simplicity of the interior design. Anyway, the infotainment and dashboard on the Audi is still superior - not the rest though.
The brakes on the Stelvio are fly-by-wire, they need some "get used to"... ...and the Q5 is the one looking like a Macan. They share the same exact platform from VW. The Stelvio on the other hand, shares the Giorgio platform from the Giulia and it is on another level in terms of dynamic driving. Having more power than the closest Macan in terms of price and Q5 also helps (280hp vs 252hp).

Luxury where?😂😂😂😂Fiat alfa
@Ian 56 audi is only luxury
Scanti_Audi; "Audi is only luxury" - so is an expensive sofa - but I wouldn't drive in it 😜

I agree, both are great cars but driving an Alfa is a different thing, and I can say it according to my experience with the cars I've had since 2000: Alfa 156 > Alfa GT > BMW X1> BMW X4 > Stelvio
Just bought a new Stelvio. Love it! Handles like a car and Is quick! Looks beautiful as well. 🇮🇹🇮🇹👍
Just got my Stelvio 21 on monday and I’M IN LOVE 🤩😍
@@fulviovalenziano4579 absolutley true!!!
Stelvio......
Brilliant video. Really enjoyed that. I wasn't aware of the wireless charging and touch screen in the Alfa. Very tempting over here in the UK. Just as rare this side of the pond where as German mid SUVs are everywhere.
Sir your channel deserve more than 1 million subscribers I really like watching your videos thank you 🙏🏼
Thank you
I got the alfa stelvio ti in red fantastic car
Only one thing i wish if a bit louder .
Handeling is fantastic and fun
The ti got limited slip diff and all wheel drive but rear bias only up to 50% of torque goes to front wheels when necessary .
Cheers
Alfa for me thanks.
Alfa...tutta la vita!! 1000 volte più bella!!!
IMO style wise the AR Stelvio knocks not only the Q5 but everything else in its category out of the park!
It’s a sxy car for sure
AGREED!!
I think it's not only style wise. I think there's no SUV better than this one in terms of handling (dynamics).
@@miks564 maybe only Macan)
@@rinatbigfish Maybe, maybe not. Porsche made a good product out of it, but the Macan is built over the multipurpose VW MLB platform.
Stelvio is built over the Giorgio platform (designed by ex-Ferrari engineer) created specifically for Alfa Romeo brand re-launch with the Giulia Quadrifoglio. A platform born to be dynamically very competent with the engine sitting behind the front axle for perfect weight distribution per axle and RWD bias, which the Stelvio has.
Stelvio al top.... come guida e originalità....♥️👍
Alfa Romeo Stelvio 🍀
Alfa Romeo is taking over the market with everything. Speed/comfort/looks/visibility and the prices is right
The Stelvio is gorgeous with handling the Q5 can’t touch. The only competitor it has is the Porsche Macan, the Audi Q5 is more of a Lexus RX competitor. Very different types of cars.
I’d say a good competitor for Stelvio would be Maserati Levante but that’s of course another price range
What was your thoughts on q5 after test drive? Can you compare Alfa to all of them?
@@rrowicki9442 I have quite literally driven hundreds of cars. Almost every car you normally see on the road, I’ve driven it (more than once). The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Ti is the best bang for the buck SUV on the market.
great honest review. Thanks!
I don’t know how you guys measure the boot space.
In Europe the Audi has 550l. and the Stelvio 525l. That’s only 25 litres more for the Audi (4% more space).
Thank you
@@SamCarLegion Also worth mentioning that you get the 550Lt of the Audi boot space is with the rear seat in the most forward position. ...but they always push it to the back position for the videos precisely to show how roomy it is for the rear passengers while still "selling" the maximum boot space which of course doesn't match the seat position. You can't have both.
I think you mean, 'the Audi has 525l'... but your conclusion is correct.
I have a Stelvio Ti and a Giulia QV. The best of both worlds. The average person doesn't get what an Alfa is.
Sorry that Q5 looks terrible..
Just got the Alfa TI Sport...Love it so far
I strongly considered the Porsche Macan however after driving both, I can definitely say that the Alfa is much more engaging and capable. This might surprise or even offend some but the difference was rather stark. That Macan would have been my tenth Porsche purchase. I just found the Alfa to be a better SPORTS utility vehicle. So, it’s not at all fair to call the Stelvio a baby Macan. It’s a different but equally worthy entrant into the very crowded SUV arena.
I was intending to get a Mayan, but chose the Stelvio this week!
Alfa Romeo 🍀❤
Alfa wins again 🇮🇹 Nice video and well explained.
I take the Alfaromeo Stelvio, look better and drive with character, the Audi q5 is to boring
The Q5 is not boring
You're right about the optics, but always the Audi when it comes to quality.
OMG !!! This didn't take too long !!! AT 1:10 HELGA vs Sophia Loren.....NEXT !!!!
Got my stelvio about a month ago love every drive
My mouth is watering; I can't wait to test drive the Stelvio, and eventually buy one.
You have to try the Alfa Romeo on CORNERS! If you only drive it in straight roads, you're somehow wasting it.
Sam, your paddle up shifts totally qualifies for some kind of award :) Can't come up with the category though.
Thanks :)
Stelvio all day❤️
I can mute the voice for the whole video and I know the answer which one is better.
Your smile while accelerating in Alfa says everything :-)
Maybe the infotainment is slower in Stelvio.
Space doesn't need improving. It is up there with the competitors. In this case, for instance, it has just 4% less cargo space than the Q5.
It's mature and it's awsome.
what did you get, at the end? ;)
I bought a 2019 Alfa Romeo stelvio ti lusso a month ago. I absolutely love it. Only thing is my sunroof makes a radel noise in my cabin when I drive it. It doesn't make it when the roof is open only when its closed.
Just bought my wife a Si sport. I drive a Macan turbo. I’m falling in love with the Stelvio
I had a regular makan 2L. Tell me how do you like Stelvio compared to him? Where is the best build quality in the cabin?
@@rinatbigfishdid you get the Macan? Sure The P car may give you more cred, but drivers know the Stelvio handles much better
You can also get a way better deal on an Alfa. In US, around 23% off msrp. I will be getting one soon.
Nice! Congratulations
Audi is a great car overall. But no comparison with the Alfa when it comes to driving feel and enjoyment.
The Stelvio is gorgeous and driving excitement. The Audi is better built, better fit and finish, better tech. I'll take the Stelvio. 🤓🖖
❤ Alfa Romeo 🇮🇹👍
I’ll always choose my Audi Q5. Absolutely love it
Great comparison, thank you for this amazing effort!
Mind you it’s a 2016
Good luck with that engine and the oil consumption issue. You’ll need a full engine rebuild. I had one. Worst car I’ve ever owned.
@@theLEGOguy22 what year was yours? And did you keep up with the maintenance? Mine gets fresh oil every 5k
@@johnblaze6269 My Italian cars get fresh (100% synthetic) oil every year or every 16kkm whatever comes first - exactly as stated in the manual.
But I do not want to make any recommendation for VAG engines.
@@theLEGOguy22 I have a 2.0TDi Q5... and they run forever. But you are mistaken about the 2.0t oil issue. It is a poor feature (on some 2.0t's)... but they still last forever, and there's plenty of proof of that.

I own both in 2020. I like them both very well. Audi is more comfortable but my Stelvio is so much more fun to drive.
Same , plus my Lusso is much nicer inside
Alfa today and everyday!
Alfa: an opera of Giuseppe Verdi
Audi: das Ordnungsamt
That‘s all
W Alfa
I had an alfa Guilla it was ok but the interior lacks the luxury of an audi. I now have the Audi SQ5 and I love it
You had a Giulia and you don't know how to write the name of the model?
😉
Alfa Romeo updated the interiors on the models starting in 2020. They're considerably better. ...but that's only for those who like the simplicity of the interior design. Anyway, the infotainment and dashboard on the Audi is still superior - not the rest though.
Audi is number 1... l love it💯
The brakes on the Stelvio are fly-by-wire, they need some "get used to"...
...and the Q5 is the one looking like a Macan. They share the same exact platform from VW.
The Stelvio on the other hand, shares the Giorgio platform from the Giulia and it is on another level in terms of dynamic driving. Having more power than the closest Macan in terms of price and Q5 also helps (280hp vs 252hp).
I think the Stelvio looks like macan
love that he did the cabin noise test.

Alfa is something new, Audi become boring with the same line
‘For people that don’t know this... you’re supposed to catch up to the speed of the traffic’ - nice subtle poke 🤣
I remember seeing an alfa on the road, needless to say I almost made an accident having my eyes locked onto it...
Stelvio tutta la vita 😍
Here's the simple truth....
Audi = Glorified VW (Front wheel drive chassis creates dynamic problems that cannot be overcome)
Alfa = Ferrari
The truth that cannot be denied !!
FORZA ALFA BABY !!!!
THE KING IS BACK !!!!
If Alfa = Ferrari then Audi = Lamborghini. The Audi is roomier too, which is important for an SUV. But there's no denying, the Stelvio drives great and sounds great.
@@paulgregory777 Audi = GLORIFIED VW ONLY...shares nothing with Lambo history except mergers and acquisitions...Please..
@@jamesterakazis6624 You missed the point. The Alfa shares nothing with a Ferrari either... apart from some design input in the Quadfoglio engine. Please...
@@paulgregory777 Paul, Paul, Paul....we are speaking to DEVELOPMENT OF THE CAR ! The late great Sergio Marchionne wanted to give a BIG MIDDLE FINGER to the Germans and that's why Alfa released the Giulia Quadrifoglio before the base model. Everything about the car's development came from Ferrari engineers that Sergio cherry picked. That is FACT. From suspension (Ackerman angle) to Steering radius (faster than 911's) , Carbon fiber drive shaft and body panels, electronic braking system, and what you keep harping on the 90 degree V 6 which is a Ferrari staple (the Ferrari engine is an 8 cylinder) the new Alfas were birthed from Ferrari engineers, plain and simple. This Audi Q whatever is a rebadged FWD VW. That is FACT !!
@@jamesterakazis6624 Lol... your 'FACTs' sounded convincing... until I read the last one. Gen 1 Q5's are constantly engaged 4x4's. The core is in the name 'Quatro'. Gen 2's are 2 wheel drive switching to 4 when necessary. So at you got those 'FACTS' wrong, I've checked further...
Only the Quadrafoglio had a Ferrari derived engine.
The standard petrol and diesel engines are all designed by FCA teams... So where do you get your 'facts' that the engineers are all ex-Ferrari?
Nice review Sam...as a "driver" I find the Audi's nav screen to be a bit obtrusive and from a design standpoint I'm not a fan of the German "throw an iPad on top of the center stack" look.....
Thank You Almighty God for blessing me I will buy one of each of them
This thing is quick, nice and agile!! On a straight road, the natural home of all Audi’s, don’t like corners.....
I agree with your assessment. Very well done.
