- Hey Y'all! We are back with a couple of really easy & delicious weeknight meals for you, and we show you how we make each one. We've also packed our bags and hit the road on our first vacation in two years! Hooray! We show you some of our travels, and all of the food that we ate across the great state of Louisiana!!

We've shared our recipe video in the past on our channel, but to be honest, what I make is not top-level restaurant quality and so what we had out in these restaurants in Louisiana was really over-the-top good! Ours is quite tasty for a home cooked version, though and always tides us over until we can travel to LA and splurge (where we ate was likely fresh caught shrimp or at least not frozen as long as what we buy in our grocery here). It's very southern and a quintessential New Orleans dish, definitely worth a taste! LOL! Take care, and have a wonderful and truly blessed day ---Stacy 😍💚
What beautiful places you were able to visit! The Haumas House was impressive. The next place with all the oaks reminded me of Boone Hall Plantation (scenes from North and the South filmed there). I took pictures there when our sons were maybe 10 and 12 & I will treasure those forever. Glad you all were able to get away & boy, the food looked good!

Hey guys! We really enjoyed hearing about your vacation. It looked relaxing and fun! We went to Natchitoches for a day trip when we were dating back in college and loved it! We especially enjoyed seeing the filming locations from Steel Magnolias and would like to go back some day. We also visited a plantation there, called Melrose. Your food all looked scrumptious, and we were drooling over that hot fudge sundae. Yum! 🍨 Glad y’all enjoyed your trip! 😊

I figured you guys had been to Natchitoches before, since you spent so much time in her sister city across the border :) It was our first visit but I really loved the town and our B&B on the river. I'd love to go back at Christmas and see the lights! Tim (of course) has never seen Steel Magnolias and couldn't be convinced to do anything related to the movie. I purposely skipped Melrose, because I knew we would hit at least 2 plantations winding down through the Great River Road on the way to New Orleans. I figured he could only take so much, LOL!! It was nice to get away, even though it wasn't very far or for very long. At this point, after the year we've all had, I'll take whatever I can get! Natchitoches is a great little town, and they have a Steel Magnolias tour, where you can go around and see places they filmed and learn more about it. We actually own the movie (a really old DVD I had), but Tim has never seen it, so I couldn't persuade him to try the tour. We were talking with another couple at one of the restaurants, and they actually spoiled it for him and now he knows that the main character doesn't make it, so he won't watch it with me now, ack! We have used frozen bread dough (thawed out), canned bread dough like a PIllsbury french bread loaf, a can of triangle crescent rolls (just pinch all the seams together, as we showed in our Crescent Roll video) or the dough sheet. We didn't find a lot to do in BR, but then again, I didn't spend a lot of time looking for things to do, as it was more of an overnight stop between Natchitoches and the north shore. We have friends who used to live in Denham Springs and they've told us there are a lot of good restaurants there :) I wanted to go to eat Chinese at a place in Covington that I remembered from when I lived there, but couldn't talk Tim into it, he was afraid it would not be what I remembered from so many decades ago and he was probably right! Don's was really good!

All the meals looked delicious, the home meals as well as the vacation meals. Awesome that you had the opportunity to eat shrimp po’ boys, fried shrimp, authentic red beans& rice, shrimp & grits, snapper. Yes you pronounced Tillamook correctly. Several years ago we vacationed in Oregon & visited the Tillamook cheese factory. They had divine ice cream there also.

Looks like a fun road trip! We have been to the Evergreen Plantation and while not particularly beautiful grounds, the house was beautiful and the story behind it was very interesting. Glad you guys had a good time!

Then, I stop by Sam's Club and see their big box of them already made and frozen, and think... do I really want to do all of that work, LOL! Some days I do and some days (especially in July and August), I really don't want to stay in the kitchen that long, ha!! I drove through Natchitouches on my road trip! Went through for the steel magnolia house lol I also toured the Houmas House!! And Oak Valley plantation!
@Abby Wonder - OH WOW Abby, that's amazing! How fun that we were totally on the same wavelength and did so many of the same things! I know you enjoyed Natchitoches (where did you eat?!!), and the Houmas House too! I have heard so much about Oak Alley for years, but honestly, we really enjoyed Houmas House more. Maybe because we went there first, maybe because we weren't as tired, but we thought the mansion tour (cameras allowed), the grounds and the restaurant at Houmas was more fun and entertaining than at Oak Alley. Could have totally been us though!! Tim has never seen Steel Magnolias so I couldn't talk him into that tour, but I hope to change that. @@nolamom1001 - oh how cool! Toledo Bend looked like a great family spot. We saw so many people out on the water, having a great time and lots of families. The golf course there was apparently a really nice one before Covid but has since gone downhill. The area and people were great though! I hope your mom continues to do well, and how cool that she is so close to the river (unless she has flooding issues, which is no bueno!). We are not getting much rain up here, but definitely got into some unexpected showers down in y'alls neck of the woods!! I think they are forecasting a wetter summer and bigger chance of hurricanes, so let's just keep it at rain and not have any tropical activity, right?!! Y'all have a great week!!

Hi Tim and Stacy! I love that you stayed at a B&B on your vacation! They have always intrigued me and are something I’ve only seen in movies! That plantation looked so beautiful! We quickly visited a plantation in Kentucky last Summer and I wish they had been doing tours. It was so interesting! Crazy that the homeowner still lived upstairs in the house! So, a couple of months ago I tried making your pizza roll and it did not turn out near as good as yours and now I see why! 😂 The little steps like rolling out the crescent dough would have helped it all stay together lol It still tasted good but didn’t look as pretty as yours! Oh! And you did say Tillamook right! I used to live 15 miles from Tillamook and have visited the cheese factory often! I’m so glad you two were able to get away and relax! You both deserve it! ❤️
@Logues Life - Hey Krista!! Thank you so much for stopping by and watching! Yes, this was our second time to stay in a B&B and we both loved it as much as the first time. I really want to do more of that as we travel, because it truly is a different kind of experience from a hotel. It wasn't quite like it is in a lot of the books I read, there was no one there to greet us when we arrived and no afternoon snacks, but a nice system was in place for getting the key to our room and letting us know where the coffee, tea and cold water bottles were. The house was old (in need of a paint job and some of the railings were broken leading down to the river, but some maintenance would fix that right up), and it had a lot of charm. It creaked when anyone walked around so that was kind of neat! I chose the room that opened onto the back porch and even though the listing made it look like it was private, it was a shared porch, but it worked out great, as the other two couples were not interested in sitting on the porch or reading which is what we did, LOL! If you ever come south again, definitely do a tour of a plantation or antebellum home. So much history and they are all really unique. We have a lot in MS as well and I've spent a lot of my travel time going through different ones in the south. Oh no, I'm so sorry about the pizza roll (yes, it helps to pinch the seams together and roll it out good, and a nice egg wash or garlic butter spread on top will give it more flavor and more color so it browns nicely). Hooray, I pronounced something right, ha! I think I've heard you say it enough in your grocery hauls, so I was hoping I was close! The Tillamook factory is on our list whenever we can finally get to the PWN to visit. That list is growing! Hope y'all are staying cool and the heat breaks for you soon. Toledo Bend is in my neck of the woods. I live in Texas on the Louiana border. I would suggest Rayburn country (lake Rayburn for his golfing). Nacitoches is also known for the movie Man in the Moon. It was filmed there and a true story on two families that lived there. It was Reese Witherspoon’s debut.

@Sarah Peck - Hey Sarah! OH MY GOODNESS! You were stationed at England AFB in Alexandria? That's amazing! Tim was Airman of the Year when he was at that base and has such fond memories of the place. They tore it down a couple of years after he left. We drove there once before, but didn't spend a lot of time looking around, so we made plans to drive through Alexandria specifically for him to spend all the time he wanted exploring the old base. They've turned it into the England Air Park, torn down some buildings, repurposed a lot of others, and are using it as a combination air runway/air park, business and industrial park, etc. We have been super impressed!! We are so glad you are here and hope that you will enjoy the content on our channel. 💜 To answer your question, we both think we remember some ADA accessible signs and some ramps, but by and large, the plantation mansions themselves are probably not overly wheelchair accessible. We climbed stairs to a second floor in both of the ones we visited, although I believe Houmas House did have an elevator available, so that might be an option. You could definitely explore the grounds, and the perimeter, and the long alley at Oak Alley Plantation. There are probably a dozen or so antebellum plantations in this area, down the Great River Road, and some of the ones that we did not stop at might be more wheelchair accessible, might be worth checking in to. We are both history buffs and really enjoyed learning about a different time and place, and enjoyed seeing the sights. I hope you are able to make the trip!! I will add that link to the "Commonly Requested" list that is in every video. I use the one from a website called Isobel Eats and change it up to fit our tastes. I leave out the cilantro, use canned corn, red onion, mayo, lots of cotija (way more than her recipe) and I use some Trader Joe's Everything but the Elote seasoning (which is really good). Normally when we visit Louisiana, we go directly to New Orleans, either for a Saints game, to visit the WW2/D-Day museum or the aquarium or to see friends. We made a point this trip to visit other parts of Louisiana that we had never seen before and try all new places! Every trip to New Orleans for us always involved a trip to the original Cafe du Monde in the French Quarter where we get beignets! I did not see that on FB and I'm so glad you told me, so we can be praying for them. I know that Covid is still hitting a lot of people, some really hard, and I'm so sorry that it has hit close to home with your dad and family. Are any of them in the hospital currently, and are they having the heart or pulmonary related issues? I know this this is still evolving, and we are hearing about new strains and new things popping up that they had not really encountered before. @@LetsCookYall hi...no one is in hospital, thank goodness. My dad said they are feeling a bit better. They are going today for an iv transfusion of some kind that is supposed to help. He said they are so worn out. Thankfully although coughing, breathing is good. Praise the Lord as I know thats what is killing people. My daughter in law feels the same and her fever is still up over 103. My dad and step mom had the shots months ago so dr is thinking its this new strain. So scary. I worry about them due to age and just lost momma last yr. Ty for checking in and prayers friend. 💜💜💜
@@inyourdreams3263 - oh no, I hope it's not that new delta variant, since they don't know as much about it yet. So they have all had the vaccinations and still got sick? We haven't heard of anyone (personally) who has gotten sick after the 2 vaccine shots. I have a friend from church who had the antibody infusion when she got Covid and she said it made her feel tons better and she was so glad she was able to get it. So I do hope they got that and they start feeling much better, very soon. We are praying for you all! 🙏🙏🙏
@@LetsCookYall ty hun. They got the infusion this afternoon at hospital. They told them might take 2 to 3 days to kick in. Yes they both got the 2 shots. They got them awhile ago. Due to age and my bil being a doc, he helped them get them towards start of when shots came out. Im not sure what kind they got. Dad said tonight they both were tired but fevers are gone. Hallelujah 💜💜💜

Yes, all of the plantation tours include a tremendous amount of history, both of the plantation, its owners, the crops they produced, how they fared before and after the Civil War, the slaves that were enslaved there, and tons about their history.
