- Forgot to mention when uploading it because I was tired, the footage is played back at double speed. This took closer to 11mn real time.

Anyway, I know that 2020 hasn't been an active year for the channel, and I'd like to apologise for that. The pandemic and lockdowns caught me in the middle of moving out from France to England, and I've been more or less stuck at my boyfriend's parent's with 7 people in the house and without most of my stuff since March. Hopefully though, I'll be able to find a place for my boyfriend and myself soon enough, giving me better conditions to create stuff, both materially and mentally. I wish you all the best for 2021, and that we all make it a far better year for ourselves.
blockout looks different
Hyperbolic space is basically negative curved space, the space that is played in the video is called H2 x E (Two Hyperbolic dimensions and Euclidian height), an example is when you put 5 or more squares in a vertex (point).
Tetris but the game it’s made on got injected with a pinch of LSD™️
Lilla, it’s okay that you couldn’t produce as many videos as you would have hoped in 2020! Even if we all wanted more content, your health comes first, and I’m more than happy to know that you’re with Lanterns, some place safer! And if you ever need to take longer of a break, that’s totally okay! Happy New Year, and I wish you both the best for this year! ❤️
Thank you lots, I wish you the best for 2021 too
happy new yearr

Also, T-Spin double in hyperbolic space when
My eyes-
For a second I was thinking you would to a PC or something
so this is what Wumbo sees during Tetris gameplay, huh
No wumbo sees to towers and three blocks at the bottom

ST STACKING
what
I get it but don't get it
What the fuck am I looking at
I actually started to understand what was going on by the end and that scares me
Have you figured out yet that you can tuck through walls by the same logic that lets T-spins exist in regular Tetris, except here it's just sliding the piece through a wall
@@Oshisaure I... what? help
Imagine if they added this to Hyperbolica as a minigame
Actually the original idea for this came from a discussion in the Hyperbolica discord :)
This uses the HyperRogue engine, but we have decided not to make it a mini-game in HyperRogue because it does not use any HyperRogue worldbuilding, and it is fun enough to be a separate small game. (Contrary to most other minigames in HyperRogue)
@@ZenoRogue Oh that makes sense
It is still cool regardless
All I can think of while watching this video is the virtual boy Tetris game but on acid.
yeah kinda. It's 3D tetris except you replace 2 of the dimensions with hyperbolic space
This is the first video I'm watching in 2021. I have made a good decision.
Ah yes, Tetris: except you need a master's degree understanding in 14 different subjects of science in order to play the game.
Aaaaa my brain. I had no idea what they meant by “spinning around a pentagon to rotate” until just now
I've never understood tetris less, fantastic!
Honestly i can understand most of this except the rotation system. Holonomy is extremely confusing to me and i still don't understand it.
Update: i think i get it, but it's easier to visualize on a spherical plane and not a hyperbolic plane. Basically as you move around non-euclidean space, you accumulate extra rotation even if your perspective stays fixed. Take a direct 90 degree turn enough times and the piece should have rotated in a direction. In hyperbolic space, it's the opposite direction you traveled, so if you want to rotate a piece to the left, you take five 90 degree turns to the right.
What i mean by easier to visualize on a spherical plane is that you can see the effects of holonomy by just using your hand and a ball (or even just your hand if you're feelin’ dangerous.) put your hand on the front of the ball. Move it up to the exact top, then, without changing your hand’s orientation, move it to either side of the ball. Then move it back to the front where it started. Your hand should have rotated 90 degrees in the direction you moved, even though you never really changed its perspective. That's called holonomy, and it's how the rotation system works in his game.

[holonomy intensifies]
I’m so confused but that was sick
Oh, that is an absolute mess to figure out. I think my eyes need a fix soon.
Hyperbolic space visualizations do that to you. It's hard to wrap your head around.
Hyperbolic space is so cool
Man, this Tetrisphere sequel looks really cool

“Hypiebolic glime chamber”

what the heck am i watching
This is a pretty small quotient of the hyperbolic plane (times an extra dimension of height), it might be a tesselation of Bring's surface perhaps. I wish the developers would put some borders though, that delineate the finite nature of the surface, but that you can translate the surface through (similarly to borders for a square/rectangular tiling of a torus, that you can translate through the border). This way you wouldn't be overwhelmed by the seemingly infinite nature of the hyperbolic plane that this surface is a quotient of.
Since the "world" of this game is essentially finite, not infinite.
Yeah, it took me a little while at first to realise that this thing works essentially like a torus and that it's the same finite space wrapping around. It might be hinted at with some pieces like the line piece reaching so far out you can see them multiple times at once when placing them, but an actual drawn border would make it more obvious, I agree.
Indeed, it is a tessellation of Bring's surface (hence the name Bringris). The game has a a bounded well mode too, though.
Although one property of hyperbolic shapes is that a large proportion of the squares are on the boundary/corners, which is less nice (and makes looped manifolds and unbounded spaces more appealing IMO).
@@ZenoRogue Ah, good that that you have a bounded mode, i have yet to play the game for myself. 🙂
Is it possible to translate the world through the boundary as well, so you can move any tile into the visible center?
I didn't even realise the connection between the name Bringris and Bring's surface, lol! 😅
@@henrikljungstrand2036 Not sure what you mean here -- you can center on any tile inside the bounded well, but you cannot look at the bounded well from the outside.
@@ZenoRogue That's exactly what i meant! Thank you! I would like to download this game, but my pc stopped working, i don't know if it exists for Android (like HyperRogue), and i'm too poor to buy a new computer now.
POV: You are the tetromino
(btw happy new year Li!)
everything about this feels uncomfortable
lumines looks different huh
yo wtf
That O piece is the first cursed thing I saw on 2021. Good job
Thank you, happy 2021
My brain doesnt have enough ram to process whats going on
happy new year
Stay safe Oshi!
Just realized what this is about half way through the video! How the hell do you wrap your head around this?
Painful practice
My head is feeling legitimate pain for this.
my brain hurts
oshi what the absolute hell
how do you even read this
oh.
A tetris line clear in the fucking what now?
my brain hurts
Ouch, my brain
Ah yes. I understand 100%
this edible ain't shit
I literally have no idea what this is about and i don't even know what's going on
What the fuck no
This is such a holonomy moment
DMTetris
what
I'm sorry *W H A T*
I'm extremely lost and blind
woht is this
Bringris, from the creator of HyperRogue I think
... can you even t spin in this?
Not really since there's no dedicated rotation button, although you can do tucks that look like you phase through walls, so I guess that's the closest to a spin move you can do
@@Oshisaure noice
Dang that's trippy
