    I KNOW I WAS MISSING THE DIVIDEND AND THE LINK MODELS, IVE HAD THOSE MANY TIMES WHILE I THINK THEY ARE GREAT MODELS IM AGAIN NOT A HUGE FAN OF SPRING ASSIST IN 2023 WHEN ACTION AND GOOD DETENTS ARE SO EASILY DONE. SO THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN BEHIND THE LEEK BUT I DO STILL THINK THEY ARE GREAT KNIVES AND TOOLS. CHECK THE LINKS FOR PRICES AND ANY OTHER INFORMATION, AND THANK YOU FOR WATCHING

    Pretty cool video, I don't think I have seen an American Kershaw video this thorough before. Glad to see Kershaw kind of making their way back into the area of appealing towards collectors. For the longest time they seemed to be stuck in the mud similar to CRKT and Gerber, and really only focused on budget models that appeal to regular people and not knife enthusiasts and collectors. But with the Livewire release and a couple of their new autos and dura-lock knives, they seem to be at least heading in the right direction again.
    FYI the Launch 16 unfortunately only comes in the serrated variant. Don't know why they won't do a plain edge version🤷‍♂

  • @seansmith4183

    I appreciate this video and giving some attention to Kershaw. Yes, they do need to do USA made manuals. With the success of the Iridium, hopefully, they will do some. They have the experience for sure. Assisted knives don't bother me. Not everyone has dexterous fingers for flipping manuals, so they also serve a good purpose.

    • @olddirtybooger
      @olddirtybooger Год назад

      I still like autos. Long before autos were legal (in my area), assisted knives just felt like AUTO-LITE.
      Which is fine, it isn't my tea to drink.
      But, at the same time. Manuals did have that fidget factor, and proportions more suited to my daily tasks and hand size.
      Why have a leek, when I could have the crkt m-16 with both tabs and the auto-lawks? Drop shut washer action, fidgety spring loaded secondary lock, wave opening, a bunch of materials, and blade versions.
      Handles sized appropriately for work gloves the wave feature was also a positive handstop. We were taking fly cutters, and milling our own handles.
      Assisted always seemed like an extra step, for none of the fun factor.
      Auto or manual bliss. No half measures.

    Great review Jerad and I agree I wish Sandvik 14c28n was more what Kershaw used in most of their knives as opposed to 8cr on many and D2 on their more "harder use" knives. From what I gather 14c28n used to be exclusive to Kershaw back in the day. My first Kershaw was the Blur (tanto/partially serrated) and I LOVED the look, but also fell in love with the steel! Fifteen yrs ago I loved how snappy the speedsafe AO was on Kershaws, but like you I've gotten away from them now since modern day manual action is just as fast or even better! My favorites are the Leek, Blur, and Launch 1 ! C'mon and bring on more Sandvik knives Kershaw with KVT ball bearings instead of AO!! I am happy to see they're beginning to use other steels a lil bit tho like M4 20cv, and Magnacut

    • @tacticalcenter8658
      @tacticalcenter8658 11 месяцев назад

      Their 20cv is heat treated poorly and isnt any better than s35. Their magnacut is 60-62 so its also too low. Their d2 is also China d2 and performance is so bad they arnt worth more than $40 max.

    • @mikerollins3088
      @mikerollins3088 11 месяцев назад

      @tacticalcenter8658 60-63 is recommended for Magnacut. From what I've seen you COULD go all the way up to 65, but that you'd be losing about 40% toughness for the extra edge retention (when Magnacut has respectable edge retention already) according to Larrin Thomas' chart. Tactile Knife Co.'s website says 61-63 Hrc, Hogues Deka says the same. Personally I think 60 is low, but I wouldn't be upset with 62. As far as them using Chinese D2, unless a manufacturer states K110 (Bohler Uddeholm's D2) most companies are using Chinese D2 anyway. As long as it has a good heat treat there's nothing wrong with that. Although I will say this...I'm not one who wants to spend more than 40-50 bucks on any knife w/ D2 anyway, but manufacturer has some to do with it

    All you have to do to deassist one of the speed safe kershaws is take the torsion spring out of them. Makes the ones I have done pretty good little manual knives. One of the ones I did was a scallion in 14c28n. With the recurve on those blades they cut way above their weight class imo.

    Hey Jerad, you should checkout the Launch 20, it has Magnacut at 62-64 hrc and has a cool aesthetic. The blade shape is reverse tanto (but im sure you'd call it a sheepsfoot lol) and has marbled carbon fiber which helps with the slippery clear anodized "raw" aluminum handle and just overall is beautiful. This was my first USA made auto and magnacut blade, but now i want the 15!🔪🔥

    • @wes.killed.it.5511
      @wes.killed.it.5511 Год назад

      Yeah a lot of the spring assisted models either lack a detent ball or the detent hole completely, basically rendering a de-assisted knife fairly dangerous and useless. I own the 14C28N Blur (partial serrated exactly like in the video) and I can't de-assist mine because it doesn't have a detent ball to keep the blade secure when closed. So do the S30V models actually contain a detent ball and hole?

  • @Cid_1
    @Cid_1 Год назад

    I would love for Kershaw to convert some of their Classics to Manual knives with KVT bearings and good steel. That would enlarge their customer base a LOT, for all the countries states and regions where Assisted and Autos are illegal (which is most of the world).

    I have the USA made Kershaw Link in 20cv and a Leek in cpm154 with copper scales, both great knives but I tend not to use them because of the speed safe assist. To me, having the blade explode open in your hand seems less safe than manipulating the blade yourself. But meh, different people like different things. still having my older kershaw barrage, basically a salvo but completely blacked out and limited to 400 pieces.
    basically impossible to find nowadays.
    love the older american kershaws, i'm sure the newer ones are great too, but sadly most are speedsafe oder completely auto and thus illegal where i live.

    Kershaw was my gateway into knives! At the time, I was in Oregon and some friends kindly took me to the warehouse sale. I was pretty cash-strapped so I couldn't do much while there. I feel like they had some down years but now it feels like they're back! I am not able to do autos but I like their Launch designs.

    Combo blades are the most versatile. If you, as a knife reviewer don’t see that, you need to carry a combo blade, and use it hard. Can’t even tell you how many times the combo serration were clutch when I neglected my plain edge portion.

      @@NeevesKnives. When talking about the Launch 16, you stated your preference for an all serrated, or all plain edge. You said “I guess a combo edge could be useful”. Since we are guessing, it means to me you’ve never tried one. I’ve carried the same Benchmade 910 in a combo edge for 22 years, and I can confirm for you, that it is very useful.

      I agree they are, but as someone that touches almost every knife going into production if they don't start picking up the pace on making quality modern knives they will be considered the MTech knives of USA as far as there folders go, trust me I want to applaud them vigorously, but my job is to be honest with the community about the products

    If Kershaw got away from all the autos and assisted designs I think more actual knife guys and gals would buy. Until then they just feel like they are for your mall ninja teenagers or people just getting into the knife world. They seem cool until you want to fidget with them or need to open and close them frequently and then you realize you have to two hand close your favorite kershaw 90% of the time. IMO, they are great entry knives but I’ve also come into some serious issues when sharpening, their steel seems overly soft on the last 3 I owned and I haven’t gone back to kershaw since.
