There's SOOO many choices out there right now for high quality knives it's almost mind boggling!!!! If you actually look at how many makers are actually out there making knives right now... its truly something.....a great time to be into knives none the less!!!!! Great video great makers and brands!!!
I agree. The knife market whether folding or fixed is absolutely exploding. That gives you an idea how many of us there are that spend money on these products. The American market is huge but I’d sure like to see more American made product. Not just American companies, but companies that actually produce their products in America. Some of us are willing to pay a premium to keep the money here in the states👍🏻🇺🇸

Hey, jerad! I just ordered the Rosalinda from Monterey Bay knives that came out on August 28th I believe, was wondering if you I've had a chance to check it out yet- would love to hear your thoughts. They also use zdp-189 on this knife and its rated 66 to 67 HRC. It's the first knife I've ever bought from Monterey Bay knives and it was kind of an Impulse buy LOL. I bought it so quickly that I didn't realize that it only had a thumb stud on one side and I'm a lefty LOL😂 but damn it looks like a wicked knife! Thanks for everything you do man! you've got the best knife Channel on RUclips
It seems that the longer a company makes good solid knives the more the fanboy base grows especially if the quality is on a consistent basis. Cold steel are renowned for thier overbuilt toughness, Spyderco for thier use of steels and heat treat quality as examples. When they are known for some specific quality and they shine in that area the fanboy base increases and people are more likely to defend that brand. Thanks for the great vid Jerad and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable
this was cool concept and video, would enjoy more like this which present a group or category some sort (others-Koenig, Strider, Craig Brown-FSD, Chris Reeves, Trevor Burger, A2, etc etc)
Now this is the video I needed in my life. I have graduated to premium knives after about 18 months of collecting, starting with the ZT 0562. Now I own a bunch of Reates and a couple Hinderers. I have my first Shiro, and a Hog House Knife on the way as well.
@@markp4401Recon1 received a batch of Velis last week but they were sold out in less than 30 minutes. You really just got to be on top of it if you don't want to end up paying more on the secondary market.
Not as premium as all these companies but there is a grip of rat 1 and rat 2 fans out there. Rightfully so, they are pretty good no nonsense edc knives for sure.
Holt and Herman are my 2 favorite custom knife makers. As far as production knives go I really like sharp by design, I would love to get one of his customs someday. Anyway great video Neeves, I agree on everything you said except maybe 2 of the brands you mentioned. 👍👍
I bought both of my Holt's from the Holt's and let me tell you there customer service sucks. So I wouldn't buy a Holt at all. They can't even provide a tool for me for my adjustable detent system. I'm pissed off about it also.
I forget exactly what it is, a precision hex wrench, 5/32" or something, maybe 5/64. Commercially available almost everywhere. I spent something like $10 for one, to have if I ever get the urge to use it. They gave you a trick authenticity card, not the wrench. Doesn't make them lousy because they didn't give more than you bought simply because you asked them to. I'm not giving you my wrench either, for certain. smirk. Buyer beware, don't buy it if it isn't what or is less than what, you want. Old commerce law, been settling that squabbling for 500 yrs. The other side of that coin is a seller coming back after the sale demanding more money, claiming it wasn't sold for enough. Would you pay that seller? I wouldn't.@@paulmills426
Your comment at the 1:15 mark at the beginning of the video about being let down by a high end knife - that was CRK for me. I had never handled one before, and after hearing all the hype finally bought a Small 31 Sebenza Insingo blade with micarta inlays. I hated it. Stiff action (even for washers), pokey thumbstud, spongy lockup, awkward feeling inlays, etc. I don't know if mine was just an exception to the norm (it was purchased 2nd hand), but it had a TON of that lock flex that some people have talked about with the Sebenza 31 with that new ceramic ball lock interface. Completely left a bad taste in my mouth about spending that kind of money on a knife. Great video - there's a lot of knives on here that I can only dream about obtaining.
Nice job, nailed it. Got 'em all except Cold Steel. Something about them, I think it's my perceived elegance the rest have in spades, that Cold Steel leaves me cold with....Left outs, I'll vote Koenig and that other ID knife, what's its name. LOL!
I have a Sharp by Design mini. Maybe 4 out of 5 stars. The pocket clip is ridiculously tight. Always a frustrating struggle. Now I have to engineer a solution on an expensive knife where the pocket clip should work as good as my now EDC production Benchmade.
I think i might own a Holt or Herman someday. But Rockstead is on another level. I probably won't ever want to spend that on a knife. That's full out handmade Handgun money.
Vero, you did NOT mention VERO. Joeseph is a GODSEND to the knife community and him and his wife do well to talk and interact with ANYONE who is interested in talking. Their knives sell out instantly and they are MADE beautifully (mostly at REATE now).

That's so awesome that Herman knives are an affiliate now! They do make some truly gorgeous looking knives that, before knife modding got on its rocket ship to where it is now, was one of the few companies who could come out with knives that were certified pieces of art. You gotta get into the really boujee niche of the knife community but when you do get in there they are highly regarded for their attention to detail and perfection on nearly every facet of knife making. And you are right about those Cold Steel fan boys. I am a Cold Steel hater and every time I let that be known I get confused looks from the fan base. I am not a fan of the aesthetic Cold Steel has going on and I think the triad lock is redundant and overrated because fixed blades exist. But my gripes are bigger when you get into their sword and non-knife blades weaponry. They seem to be a "quantity over quality" maker where they make hundreds of designs but anytime someone else makes a product following the same designs the other companies put out a better product 9 times out of 10. So I think they are overrated and I think they do a disservice to the guys who are trying to get knife laws repealed because they are unabashedly tacticool weaponry.
@@markp4401 I own Nepalese khukuris and Filipino Ginuntings. Aside from being able to fold there's not much I think I am missing out on. I got better in the collection, somebody else would appreciate the Espada XL more than I would so they can have it.
The prices on grimsmos direct from John are fucking insane when you can get one second hand for half the price on the Norseman and 2/3 of the price for a rask
I just got a ABW model 1 magnacut. Made a little review on their group page. Tip is burnt, blade is about 1.5mm shorter that specs. Grind is wonky at tip making it look bent. Also the cut out for the stop pin is ridiculous. No need to change something that works. Imo this design should not jave that cut out. So I make the post and at least eight people jumped on my post saying I was wrong this is better this is how it's supposed to be. Small company strong following. This knife was so close to being a home run that these small flaws hit hard. Oh in the tip is extremely pointy pointier than most Spyderco so pointy I would say that it's not stable. That said I love the knife one sharpening will get rid of the burnt tip and bring the steel back to a thick enough place where it would be stable. But then my blade will be 2 or 2.5 mm shorter than it should be new and I haven't even cut with it yet. I could also send it in not for repair but for replacement but then I would be going without the that I just ordered. Love the knife wish it didn't have these flaws. But this also gives me good reason to beat the shit out of it let's see what this Magnacut can do.
I thought the Norseman looked like an alligator or crocodile 🐊 nose but the horse wang is funnier. When we were kids we were at the fair and they had this horse called big Jim who decided to take a leak when all us 8-9 yr old kids walked in and that donker came down like a hose and almost touched the floor while he was unloading and then slinkied back up . Some things a person can’t forget .😂
Great video brother! Agree with everything you said aside from Medford heat treats. I’ve sharpened several of their s35vn blades that were awful to debur. That’s obviously not necessarily across the board but because I’ve experienced it several times now it makes me question it. Curious if you have ever experienced anything similar! Keep killing it! 👊🏼😁
I just give them a couple whacks with a butcher's steel ("slick") for the really sharp stuff. A light slice through a wine cork (natural cork) works well too. Sharp enough to package a 500# animal carcass, sharp enough for what Medfords do. Dull knives are panty waists!
Hello I stumbled across this video while researching a knife, and I can't find much information on it. I can only find some photos. Anyways the knife is the ( Boker 120588 Damascus Hunter Knife, Ziracote Wood Handle, Nickel Silver Guard & Pommel MANUFACTURER: Boker Knives) . Even Boker website doesnt list it as one of theirs, but I own this knife and it even has a cert. of auth. that came with the display case. I can't find one for sale anywhere so I'm trying to find out if that is because they have no value or because no one wants to get rid of theirs. Sorry if this comment is frounded upon, this is my first time stopping by, and thought I would see if anyone had any information on this knife.
Geez, so i dont know a huge amount about super high end knives. The highest end knives that i actually knew the name of before watching your channel was Benchmade. How do you feel about those in particular?
The only two knives that I cannot ever get to "flip fail" are the Holt Morpheus and the Grimsmo Rask. Lots of great knives out there but those two are failsafe flippers for me.
Cold Steel is solid, especially for the $$$. What I love about them is it's not just knives. It's everything. Knives, shields, blowguns, swords, etc...
Didn't watch the whole video. Just want to make sure......you didn't say anything negative about Cold Steel? Trips to the US are expensive, but can be arranged...🤣

So I think they are overrated and I think they do a disservice to the guys who are trying to get knife laws repealed because they are unabashedly tacticool weaponry.
Go get yourself an Espada man. Lol.
@@markp4401 I own Nepalese khukuris and Filipino Ginuntings. Aside from being able to fold there's not much I think I am missing out on. I got better in the collection, somebody else would appreciate the Espada XL more than I would so they can have it.
@@SeemsLogical Touché
No Ganzos? I've never heard a complaint.
Just kind of joking, great video.
BANG!!!
I think TRM is a good one to add to the list😊
Definitely
The prices on grimsmos direct from John are fucking insane when you can get one second hand for half the price on the Norseman and 2/3 of the price for a rask
For military folks Cold steel/ benchmade/ Medford/ Emerson
Thank you for not puttin Hinderer or the GD Benchmade Bugshit in this list. Top notch killer blades&vid brother!!
Hinderer is in the list my man
I just got a ABW model 1 magnacut. But this also gives me good reason to beat the shit out of it let's see what this Magnacut can do.
the medford 187 just speaks to me...
So why isn’t Koenig on this list? Serious question. I’ve been wondering why they are not talked about very much?
Maybe because their knives are fairly hard to get.
@@markp4401 wouldn’t that suggest even more of a possible “cult following”?
@@airadaimagery692 sure
@@airadaimagery692 I agree Koenig should be included. I love their knives. Fit and finish is perfect and they’re made in the USA.
No TRM? Or CRK?
W👀wser!
CRK did not make a list huh?
I thought the Norseman looked like an alligator or crocodile 🐊 nose but the horse wang is funnier. When we were kids we were at the fair and they had this horse called big Jim who decided to take a leak when all us 8-9 yr old kids walked in and that donker came down like a hose and almost touched the floor while he was unloading and then slinkied back up . Some things a person can’t forget .😂
I always thought they looked like a Spoonbill 🤔
I’ve always thought it ugly but I’ve heard the Norseman is such an amazing piece of machining and workmanship that I had to get one this year.
To me the Norseman's blade looks like a Dodo's bill.
Bang...I'm early again and looking for sweet knives...keep em comin jerad
Don't forget Cultrotech
👏
Geez, so i dont know a huge amount about super high end knives. The highest end knives that i actually knew the name of before watching your channel was Benchmade. How do you feel about those in particular?
Doh!!!!
Don't waste your money paying for the butterfly tax on overpriced, overrated gear.
Benchmade has a dedicated cult following butterfly tax or not! 🤣
The only two knives that I cannot ever get to "flip fail" are the Holt Morpheus and the Grimsmo Rask. Lots of great knives out there but those two are failsafe flippers for me.
Hinderer is a great knife but the guy that makes them is such a prick that i wouldn't own one😊
Cold Steel is solid, especially for the $$$. What I love about them is it's not just knives. It's everything. Knives, shields, blowguns, swords, etc...
Lessgo spyderco 🤣
2:20 😮😂😂😂
Did I miss Chris Reeve? I apologize if I did as I was listening while at work 😅
Didn't watch the whole video. Just want to make sure......you didn't say anything negative about Cold Steel? Trips to the US are expensive, but can be arranged...🤣
Shiro is the only one on the list that I will not tolerate hate. You can dislike certain ones but reading some of the Reddit bros trashing on them just to be edgelords.
