a great album Harvest when it came out I was 11 years old, I started loving it at 14 years old, I live in Italy now I'm 63 years old and I always listen to it, his voice, his harmonica, his acoustic guitar, you start traveling in a world made of joy and sadness, because in wars there are no winners, but only all defeated. peace and love❤❤☮☮

Cut school one day in '72. Went to a diner w/jukebox at the booths - 3 songs for a quarter. Put in $5 worth of quarters and played Heart of Gold - only! Ah, what a great memory even though I got picked up for truancy!!!!

I’m 21 years old and have loved Neil Young for as long as I can remember. My dad and I always listen to him, the song Old Man will always remind me of him. His voice is so beautiful and I love every song on this album. When I bought an old truck the Harvest CD was my first purchase and I cherish all my time driving around listening to this album. I hope I never forget how much I love Neil!

That's so awesome! I played this song (Out on the Weekend) live solo acoustic so many times. I always was afraid no one knew what it was, but I loved the song so much, that I played it anyway......but it always turned out to be a crowd favorite. If my memory serves me correctly, this album was recorded in Nashville, and it is my favorite all time Neil Young album. The SOUND of the entirety of the recording will never ever be duplicated by anyone.........ever.......... It's almost haunting....

Though I'm certain that the feelings we experience, while we revisit those moments is nothing short of identical. Pure Love and admiration. "Neil Young's 1972 album 'Harvest' is a timeless masterpiece that captures the essence of folk, country, and rock. With hits like 'Heart of Gold' and 'Old Man,' Young's songwriting brilliance shines through. The album's rustic charm, reflective lyrics, and soulful melodies make it a cornerstone of his career and a classic in the folk-rock genre."

IDK. It’s very uneven. Most of his lyrics are so dopey that they would embarrass Jim Morrison. Then look at Heart of Gold and Old Man. You know they’re great from the opening notes. Where did they come from? My guess is he had been helped, a lot! Whoever wrote a Man Needs a Maid isn’t capable of H.o.g. Seriously.

@@davidmuir7711 seriously? The Jack Nitzsche string arrangement is worth the price of the record. Young and Morrison were always more concerned more with transforming lyrics into musical phrasing within the context of great music than writing lyrical tracts to be analyzed in English Lit 101 classes. Harvest is musically brilliant throughout most of its 37 odd minutes. Young has acknowledged the implied chauvinism in the lyrics, but also insisted that having such an outlier added musical depth to the record. I have always loved the song. It is musically very melancholy and yet surreal, and have never understood how anyone would have ever taken the lyrical stuff in it literally. Haunting melodies over one of the most unusual chord changes and key modulation choices I have ever heard in a pop song. It is a piece of progressive pop music that actually works. Of course Greil Marcus never got that, the RS writers often overlooked the actual music part of the music. The best music writers (and songwriters) know how to connect those parts. Who cares about a great lyric if it is attached to a trite piece of music, and yes, vice versa? Lyrics are not poetry. They are meant to be sung. Different game.

One of my favorites growing up. I think he was the first to invent electric cars and then bought Lionel trains to keep them alive. This man has so much history in his life! He and Tom Petty are my hero’s . I loved growing up in the 60’s and 70’s!

I heard the Harvest track on the only late night FM station in Columbus, Ohio back in 1972. I decided to buy the album. This album still endures in 2022. A timeless expression that harkens me back 50 years. Some songs anchor us to a period in time. This album has done that for me. Much turmoil in Ohio at that time. There is still turmoil here and all over the US.

my mother and father loved this Neil Young song and the Irish radio channel used to play it with total admiration. i loved this tune from a young age and the djs in ireland always played classic tunes like this so it always dwelled in my heart and still does :) xxx

I met Neil Young when I was 13 at bus stop at skyline&LaHonda rd. He pulled up in a Ferrari 308 GBT. His hair was crazy,t top, and said"study hard, stay in school. Then peeled out. I didn't even know who he was. I learned from my home room teacher who he was. He was a Young&stones fan....

I was 11 in 1974 when I discovered this in my parents' friends records collections and would ask if I could play it and often listened to it alone. It opened up a big pool of folk rock that occupied me until I got into New wave. I've been revisiting it all for the last 20 years. Brilliant stuff.

I was in college in February 1972 when this album came out. I was supposed to see James Taylor and Laura Nyro in concert the night I was hospitalized. My friends felt bad for me. One day they visited me and gave me this album, purchased at Caldor's. A masterpiece IMHO. Fast forward to now and Neil just released "Harvest Time" last week. First on vinyl, then cassette, CD and now the internet, I still hear the songs as I did at 19 so many years ago...
