Thanks for the ride threw white bird pass. My hubby worked on it when they were building the road! When we were first married! We been married 61 years!😊
Another beautiful piece of God country. That river absolutely roaring. So beautiful for sure. Thanks Mike for taking us along. .God Bless you and your family and your Bessie. Hope you catch some fish this time. Nothing like catching a monster.🎣💕♥️
Drove OTR little over 30 yrs, loved running out west some beautiful country. I sit on my front porch now and hear a diesel whin going up an down the highway, I miss the rumble of my 425 cat and the hum of the tires on the asphalt. I truly wish I was still out there running around the country on 18 wheels. To all you asphalt gypsy's keep the rubber side down and the shiney side up.
I think I just found a new channel. 😀I'm an Idaho girl born and bred but there's still so much I haven't seen yet and I'm pushing 50 years. I went to white bird once when I was young but it was at nighttime so I couldn't really see anything. Thank you for taking me on a nice trip. 🤗

A big thanks for the ride up white bird grade. After riding along, I studied up on the battle, the town at the bottom, the people that live there , everything I could. Well, I'm moving there from Denver this summer. The ride changed my life for the better. My most humble thank you. If you get a chance next time by , stop on by in white bird and ask anyone for trapper, you'll find me. Only 200 people live in town. PEACE !!
White Bird Hill was my first big hill driving my rv. My brother is a professional truck driver and taught me to drive my rv before i left home. I was so proud of myself going up and down white bird. I barley used my breaks! Great video. Beauitful drive! 28 foot class A. Just me and my daughter.
With every new video Mike. We get to see much of America and it's beauty that only you can provide for us. Thanks so much for giving us all the Shotgun seat. PEACE!
Mike, thanks a whole bunch for the drive on White Bird Pass, it's been such a long time since I drove Hwy 95 and brought back some fond memories even during the winter driving. Like always, thanks for the ride along and peace!
I said Colorado and I meant Colorado in my last note. However, Idaho has it’s own beauty. I haven’t seen as much of Idaho as I have Colorado. We spent a lot of time in Colorado. This is why I like riding with you, you show much of the west and I enjoy it.
Googled White Bird...he was an Indian leader in the battle. Really enjoy your videos. I used to live in Colorado and miss those mountains rides- your videos make me feel as though I am back in Gods country. Take care and God bless
Who know that a year later so many people would have the opportunity to see the Salmon River. I have seen it in person years ago. Of course covid19 has shut us up but thanks to your videos we can like you said close our eyes and mentally transport to Idaho. I for one needed that today. Safe travels.

I watched this video last year but enjoying it again....Love to ride shotgun with you, Mike.. Such a good driver even in the caddie.. just to clarify not looking for a date just love the open road rides with conversation that I can relate too... Thanks Mike
I remember running the old whitebird in the 60s, 47 kw, 5 and a 3. 275 cummins.no jakes in those days. came down in 2nd direct with 10 lbs of air pressure on the brake application gauge. Old highway was real crooked. the switchbacks helped hold you back, when you go around a sharp turn your rig drags harder. oh yeah, trucking in the old days! no ac or cruise control either. enjoy the videos. keep making them! Be safe brother.
This is so cool, I drove 20 years, many of these same places, and this lets you relive it again. Theres a lot of America everyone should see, its a beautiful country. This is how you can. Thx.
Salmon are dying from the japanese Fukushima meltdown years ago. Hardly any come back from the ocean this year. Keep the farm raised, throw back the wild. More people cause more devastation and it will only get worse as more people move here. Damn shame
Thanks for the ride and the scenery. Moved to SW Idaho a few years ago and have driven 95 lots down into Oregon and to 80 at Winnemucca, but never up toward Riggins so far. Idaho is a beautiful state to live in, but too many people moving in is going to change it.
@Jim problem is the infrastructure built up and around. Improvements to parks and roads to get people there. When all these new people settle and have kids where will they settle? Housing prices squeeze out natives. Thi a is killing our state. Politics changing the face of the state. City born, book learned people do not know how to take care of wild lands.
@Alexis ayala Well, people can move pretty much wherever they want. Yes, I wish the liberals would stay away, but there are enough of them that are home grown and of course most live in Boise, the largest city in Idaho.
I don't live in mountainous area. To me it's awesome being in the mountains. In the video around the fifty minute mark, you're driving upgrade and it seems like the river is running upgrade with you. A rookie error my part. Thanks for showing parts of the country that I will never be able to see in person. Keep on trucking!👍
part of the video at the end got misplaced in editing.. was supposed to be in the beginning but some how ended up at the end area. pissed me off that i found it after i posted it.. nothing wrong with you.. you are right.
The tribe beat the Army badly. The tribe went across Idaho, ended up in Montana and turned north to safety in Canada. But the Army caught up with the Nez Perce close to the Canadian border where Chief Joseph finally surrendered. Chief Joseph beat the Army so bad the Army Military Academy at West Point still to this day study the battle tactics. Remarkable man and people! They invented the Applelousa horse for mountain use. Amazing drive today! Been though I live here and know this country it was good to ride shotgun with you and just gawk around. Thx!
Enjoy the scenery you provide, I get to come to the US every now and again for Motorbike rides, comming again in July heading home september so enjoy your mid west roads as they are the ones i like to do, have had 3 trips so far so recognise some roads and like to use your thoughts to plan routes. I am still a Trucker, bought my first truck in 1979 and still love it, best life available. I thought White Bird Pass was a not so bad road nice and steep in places and a couple of good turns. You guys dont realise how good your roads are until you do some New Zealand back roads, but we do not have to cover your mileage and deal with your traffic volumes...I admire your patience in traffic....Peace!!!
Beautiful, but being a Idaho resident I can tell you what you are looking at is Hells Canyon and the Salmon river. White Bird pass is further up and is a steep, crooked highway.
You have done it again---taken us on the most beautiful ride! I'd like to spend the summers in this area, camping. Perhaps God willing, some day. Thanks again!
MM- you seem to hit all the roads and places I've been and lived in the northwest, Wyoming, Idaho, Washington state- Oregon, Calif . you go through places remote where I've lived (Little America) when it was a gas station ,bar, store under one roof. so glad to revisit what I call home, now 80 originally from Boise Idaho. as you mentioned when I see these majestic mountains, rivers which are engrained in my mind, every time I see/hear these rivers I feel like I'm being called home. I feel like I am home.. thanx.
I am from Phoenix and I did a tour of the Northwest and of all the states up there I loved Idaho the best. Thanks for letting me ride Shotgun I love your Videos.
You asked about the song, 'White Bird", "White Bird" was written in December 1967, in Seattle, Washington. Manager Matthew Katz had moved the band there to polish their act at a Seattle venue before booking them into San Francisco nightclubs. Living in the attic of a Victorian house across the street from Volunteer Park, the band had inadequate food and no transportation during a dreary Seattle winter. The song evolved from the depression of the band's circumstances and yearning to be free.[2] The song's repeated chorus is, "White bird must fly or she will die. I used to work in Lewiston and drove this road a lot!
Idaho has some of the prettiest country in the world. I live way out in the woods in a pretty spot in Tn. but I always liked trucking through Idaho. Would love to live there other than the winters. You can't beat the country side there for sure.
Its changing as the land is crowding up with new houses. Even in places like this. BLM selling off land to subdivision builders. We have problems out here.
WE had a great vacation in northern NM with all of my family, there are NO fish in Rio Castilo NM, we did see deer, elk, antelope, buffalo, and even 1 bear. The grand kids had a blast! I am back to work again...whoa wus me! :( LOL
Gee, you took me back with the "White Bird" reference. It is a very melancholy tune about how a caged bird must fly, or she will die. With your freedom on the highway, you probably can take the message to heart. Band is It's a Beautiful Day.
Seriously addicted to your videos after recently finding your channel. That was one hell of a hill with amazing scenery and views. Must’ve been awesome sleeping at the side of that big arse river!
Hi Mike; Enjoyed your mountain climbing video with the White Bird pass and historic site. The White Bird song is familiar as well. I think by Allman Bros. Chips on seal to build up the initially inadequate [for trucks] base. The chips raise hell with snow plowing blades. Great relaxing with a rod in your hand whether salmon or fly rod fishing. I get my fishing licenses free now, for both salt and fresh water fishing. Good for Mass to N.J. saltwater and all Mass fresh water. The conservation lobby pulled a fast one a few years back with a bill to ban leg-hold trapping for beavers mostly.. They got all the old ladies to vote the ban... of course there was a blind side...the bill gave the conserve lobby part of the hunting and fishing license sales money and a say in how it was spent. Damned old ladies should stay home and knit. The beavers are still building their dams that now must be blown -up to prevent river overflow into basements. The local Indians watch for the seeding of the clam flats then come in with their scoops and take it all without permit or limit by treaty rights. They should seed at night. And so it goes in the East where all your wide open spaces are crammed together into short, steep hills and blind curves.
We have driven this Hwy twice 1994 & 1997 from north of Boise then over Lolo Pass into Montana we have friends in Nampa. 2018 we drove from Lewiston on 95 all the way into Canada. Ian from Australia
I've been thru there in dead winter.....while it is still beautiful.....it can be a nightmare. I spent two days in that "little town" and the folks there were nice as can be.
One good reason to keep your speed down and keep your brakes cool all the way down the hill is there might arise a situation where you need to stop near or at the bottom of one of those steep grades like White Bird and Lewiston. While I was a rookie, in my first truck, I had a drive shaft U-joint fail and start to come apart while on my way from Wenatchee to Lewiston. I new something was starting to go wrong but I could not figure out what. I had stopped the truck and looked it over trying to figure out the problem. Did not find it. I stopped at the top of the grade and checked again. Did not find the problem. Went on down the hill carefully. When I got to the bottom, I stopped into the shop and had them look at the truck. They found both a bad joint and a fresh fracture on the yoke to the front differential. I was down for almost 2 days while the struggled with repairing it and getting parts. If that would have failed coming down the grade at 80,000 pounds could have been an intense adventure. Especially for a rookie. What I learned that day helped me later on when another U-joint started to give warning it was time to fix it. They can go from good to away pretty quick.
Watching you from Adelaide, Australia. It's nice to see what the "real" America looks like, warts and all. Your roads look like they are in terrible condition! I don't think I've seen so many cracks, potholes and patches like I've seen in your videos, especially in the cities. Really enjoyed the scenery in this video, it was lovely to see all the greenery. I was surprised to see, in your other videos, how desolate it looks in some places. Lots of open spaces with no trees, very little grass and very flat land. But never too desolate to put up huge billboards every mile!!! Never seen so many billboards out in the middle of nowhere!! Just as our truckies out here are forever juggling deadlines, it seems your government is continually stacking the deck against you, making it harder to make a buck, but still expecting things to get from A to B in a ridiculous timeframe. Our truckies have regulations to do with set driving hours and sleep breaks, not sure if they are electronically monitored like you seem to be. What these morons in Government never seem to realise is that countries like ours will come to a grinding halt without truckies. Take my hat off to you, and all the truckies out there. Keep the videos coming. Stay safe 😁

I used to run the old zig zag road in a 1964 Emeryville with a Hall Scott engine with a 5 speed and 2 speed axle. Loved every second of it.
The old road is still there and I’ve been on it several times no reason to have a accident cause you have to drive so slow

Thanks again for another great ride!
You make me want to do this, its sounds wonderful.
very pretty never seen mountains like this
Wonderful scenery.
Hello 👋
How are you doing ❤❤❤
Thank You for the ride through my old home stomping grounds!
My home
Awesome scenery along with the chock Chicken on the mirror.
Did you know? There are at least 114 named mountain ranges in Idaho! Gorgeousness!

Hello 👋
How are you doing ❤
Stay safe 😁
Terrible poor roads
