Halberstadt CL.II First Look - IL-2 Flying Circus

- The Halberstadt CL.II was a German two seater aircraft that excelled in close air support and was also a fairly good escort fighter for larger and slower machines. THe armermentr of this machine consisted of a single 7.92mm forward firing machine gun. The same gun was fitted in the gunner position providing an excellent field of fire. To fulfill the ground attack roll the aircraft could carry quite a heavy bomb load, 150 KG. . The CL.II was also used as an escort fighter. It’s excellent climb rate and good maneuverability were very appealing to the pilots and the defensive gunners proved quite effective against single engine fighters. In august 1917 the aircraft began to arrive to the front lines in effective numbers in a matter of weeks it proved itself to be one valuable machine. Some 900 of these aircraft were built during the great war. It continued to serve in other countries such as Poland and Lithuania after the war.

Nice commentary. I've been on the fence with Flying Circus for since its release but may just go for it. It seems like quite a difference experience to the WW2 birds.
Nice job covering these Flying Circus aircraft. I have been distracted away playing "The Hunter, Call of The Wild". But will not miss seeing your games.

I was playing a mission with Pat Wilsons generator,a recon mission and it stated in the map i had to be at certain heights on certain intervals and so forth flying the Halberstadt express,man i can run faster than this plane and there is no way i was gonna get up to 3000 meters like the parameters expected (might take a day or so) in the time allotted,could i be doing something wrong? there's really no engine adjustment like mixture and so forth, just keep plugging along till i get to the moon?
Lose weight, single guns and less ammo and fuel. Its slow as hell

Unfortunately for Fritz and I, it's not very effective.
Was not equipped with additional forward firing guns, it would be too nose heavy. It was a largely ground attack and close air support plane. It excelled at close air support and offensive ground attack support, but with it's weight and the Mercedes D.III it didn't have the climb or maneuver capacity to do any sort of effective fighter to fighter attacks. The Brisfit had over 135 extra horsepower, bigger wing area and would have walked all over this plane.

oh. Lesson learned. If you elevator is ENTIRELY torn away, enter the most gentle glide ever or you die. ;) I hope they work on the AI a bit to avoid the air-to-air collisions. Heck, just make it more cautious if that is what it takes. (IMO)
