Thank you for this! We have had these for months and had been putting it off because I wasn’t sure we could do it, but your video helped me make sense of the instructions!!! THANK YOU FOR ALL THE VIDEOS!
I've been thinking about doing this for two years and your video pushed me over to doing it. Have not driven on them yet. I hoping for less bounce in the rear so it might take a bit of pressure off the hitch when the heavy ebikes are racked up. I've read that the hitch can handle 350 lbs but once you mount the rack which sticks out a good 15 inches the leverage effect can damage the hitch. Apparently it's not super solid underneath. We use support straps from the door hinges to the middle of the bike rack to help. Thanks again for your review of these bump stops.
I was cringing the whole time you were under the van without jackstands! Safety first Bob…. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the video and installation of Sumo bump stops. I’ve seen videos of replacing the fronts too but a little more involved.
Especially when you look at the sticker price of these units - after changing just about everything else on the van you would think this would be the easiest thing for the manufacturer. Good job guys Sumo springs seem to be the way to go here.
Keep sharing. These do help for clearance on bouncy roads. Must have on most Thor B class as Thor does not upgrade the suspension. Will make the ride much stiffer and can cause things inside to raddle. Now time to do the front spacers to provide a little more clearance.
I put Sumo Springs on my ProMaster van (Winnebago) and the handling improvement was like night & day! Number 1 improvement made thus far. Number 2 for is the SOG for the cassette!
I have installed some extra spacers that came with the set to just leave 1/4” space between the Sumo’s and the axle which further extends the life of your actual suspension components
I’ve only heard great reviews about sumo springs! I didn’t know you could install them yourself! Good job! I bet highway driving and curvy roads like 89 will be different for sure. You did scare me..when the handle of the jack sprung back….your head and the body of the van. Hillary’s face ..😳! please chock the tires if you’re under the rig. A 2x6 will work on the driveway in the interim.
Just a tip if you jack up your van from the hitch it will raise it higher and lift both sides at the same time and you won’t have to worry about hitting the sides of your van or your head with the jack Handle makes for a headache free install
I had no idea these were so easy to install. Thank you for sharing. The squeak when you drive is awful. I live in a 1987 camper van that squeaks less than that.
Agreed. Fronts spring will add to the quality of your ride. I would also put a jack stand or something under the frame for safety just in case your jack fails. Those van conversions are super heavy!
@@alfredm99 YES! Just what I was going to post. Any mechanic will tell you that those jacks can fail catastrophically. Always put jack stands of the appropriate weight rating underneath - or even some cement blocks are better than nothing.
Did the yellow springs drastically change the handling of the vehicle over time?? I am planning to install a set on my self converted Ford Transit and looking to see if I should go with the high density yellow, or back off slightly and use the black ones?
The yellow will make the frame and body quite Rigid. On the highway they are amazing because they prevent body sway. It depends on what you’re wanting. I would choose yellow over black for my needs. Hope this helps!
@@Vancaskeys Thank you for the input as that is exactly what I wanted to find out. Most of our driving is highway type (at least when I have a passenger and dogs onboard) - and I wanted to make sure that we dampen any of the sway and bouncing to make smoother ride for the six dogs crated in the rear. Also wanted to see if this change would give me that 1/4' to 1/2 lift in the back to prevent the grounding out when I back into the driveway. From all that I have seen it should provide both. Btw, great channel - really enjoy following along on the adventures.
Don't chance it...use jack stands! Do the Sumos have the tabs or anything else if you have to remove them? Along with the loc-tite could be interesting if needed to remove/change out. Easy enough to install for a big difference.
@@Vancaskeysdid you choose the yellow ones based on your Class B? I see they have 3 different colors. I’ve seen other videos and on more than one they took off one of those black “spacers” but you did just fine leaving both on.
Nice work. It seems your van is a little longer than your drive way. Does your HOA or neighbors give you a hard time for parking a "Van" on your own driveway?
@@Vancaskeys I am fighting with my HOA to specifically allow class b vans to be allows to park in community. They have no ideas what is class a b or c. In their minds all RVs look ugly like old class c with big overhang.😅
You scraped because you didn't leave any space between the bump stop and the frame. (hence the reason its lifted). Manufacturer recommends .5" to 1" of space otherwise the ride is very harsh.
I don’t understand why most of the install videos show someone crawling under the vehicle to do this job. I did mine today. I jacked up the vehicle at the front leafspring mount and removed the wheel for access. Much easier than crawling under it and safer too. You are not under if if it somehow falls. It took me about 45 minutes total to do the rear. The manual states only tighten it hand tight. No need to use the filter wrench.
OMG. Was so scared for you! Never, ever, ever, never ever, rely on a hydraulic jack to hold up a vehicle while you are UNDER it. Please use jack stands after you raise the vehicle. Very very scary.
Back into your driveway; it won’t bump. Love you guys!!
👍👍👍
Wow that's such an easy upgrade. My rig came with those from the factory.
You’re lucky!!! What rig do you have?
Good job!!! Bob and Hillary 👍
Thanks for sharing...
Have a beautiful day !!!

Awesome!!! We just got front ones and be putting those on soon. The rear ones have made a big difference.
LoL with the jack. First the van then the head🤣🤣
😂🤣😂
Good call on the sumo springs. Good to also hear you served.
Thanks 👍

Yes, major safety issue. Always invest in your life. Buy proper jack stands for the vehicle's weight and then use them!!!
Fronts are easy too
Thanks for the video and coupon code. Just ordered the Sumo front and rear springs for my Jayco Comet (Ram 1500 Promaster Chassis)
We enjoyed learning more about how to improve your van! Great tips and video on the install and the improved ride! Great job!
Thanks Marsha!!! ❤️
I would say that sumo springs will be the first thing to add. Shame most RV manufacturers don't install those as default.
We were thinking the same thing.

We still love them if that helps 😂
@@Vancaskeys That certainly helps. Definitely will get them!
No wheel chocks on a sloping driveway, OY!!

With the rear being higher do you think you’ll need to adjust the headlights up slightly?
Probably or replace the headlights completely.

So true!
Put Sumo on the front, you will see a world of difference.

It's because it is too high, I used only one level (black plastic piece).. I used the small crew to install it.
Seems a bit simpler to install than on a 2020 Transit T style, even though it wasn’t complicated either, depending on a car manufacturer
Bro where is the other half of your jack handle?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
