Abbie, tomorrow morning I have to say goodbye to my cat of 18 years. I said my bedtime prayers but needed a balm for my heart. Your newest video popped up and it is with real gratefulness that I watched for a bit. Your cheerful honesty and brave heart are helping me so much tonight. NEVER doubt it; you are a gift to many.💔💔🤗🤗
What a beautiful video! Thank you for doing this. I am chronically ill and disabled - trapped in my home and wheelchair dependent. I used to enjoy camping and hiking, and it's been a dream of mine to do so in Iceland. I can't thank you enough for uploading videos like this - at least I can live vicariously. ❤️
I love Abbie's narrative skills - she has such a calm demeanour about her voice, and she has such an extraordinary storytelling gift as well. She takes you into these places and makes it so magical that you feel as though you are along on the journey with her. I very much appreciate her videos. :-) @@elizabethchapman9523
Hello Abbie, I am 71 and live in Australia. I love your videos but this one was the best of all. Beautiful photography, I felt I was there with you. Thank you so much for taking us on such wonderful hikes, so different to the Aussie bush I hike!
Quite simply some of the best cinematography you have ever produced, and I've watched u from those early days. You are a woman at the peak, your confidence is to be admired. Go, Abbs, go!
Absolutely brilliant video. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. I watched it start to finish on this night, new years eve, and it was so immersive. I've set foot in 16 countries but Iceland isn't one of them. Iceland has been top of my list for so long now, the place I yearn for more than any other. I am now disabled, chronically ill with a slew of rare diseases. What I miss most is having the mobility and stamina to get back out on wild walks. This video made me nostalgic for the wild landscapes I've walked through, but in a good way. Because those times were for the present, for the experience, but also for the memory. It's a real memory bank and the deposits I made were for a rainy day. I have many rainy days now, so I draw on those memories and relive them in my mind. I absolutely feel the most alive, the most content, and in my element, when walking through nature with curiosity in my heart.
I came across your videos by chance and was hooked. There is something so genuine and engaging about your videos. It is unusual to feel a warmth and affection toward someone one has never actually met, but that is what your output engenders.
Your narration is like listening to a hans christian andersen audiobook. I really enjoy the descriptive way in which you narrate, It compliments the scenery perfectly and is so engaging, I learn so much. Thankyou for sharing this epic journey.
Two and a half hours of video and not a second of it boring! What an epic journey, and what a fabulous landscape. Amazingly good weather too! Your courage and positive spirit are an inspiration to many...
Abbie, just superb, from start to finish! Very inspirational viewing indeed. I love that powerful & majestic Mother Nature is our greatest teacher & she will push us to our limits. And as I always remember, is always available to us, no matter where in the world we hail from. Thank you, for sharing your personal journey's with your viewers & here's wishing you all the best.
I've been away for a while and what an amazing trip to bring me back! You look wonderful and I loved every minute of this one! May you continue to flourish, my dear. You give this 70 year old lady such hope and great ideas too. 😘
You have wonderfully captured the atmosphere of the Laugavegur and fimmvörðuháls trails. By far this is the best video you have completed so far. Your energy and enthusiasm is infectious! I did the same trail in July. Watching you do those river crossings brought back memories! So cold but so much fun. Looks like you were blessed with good weather. We were in the clouds coming down into Alftavatin, so your views were something we didn't get to see. Although once on the downhill the cloud lifted with views opening up across to the lake. Spectacular! Breathtaking! Amazing you did this solo. Inspiring 😊
I watched the entire thing while cleaning up! I've watched many videos of Iceland but yours was unique to you and showed me new things! Thank you for your honesty, knowledge, and positivity!
This has to be one of the best hiking videos out there. Thank you Abby for capturing everything so beautifully. I can only imagine the time, effort and energy it takes to shoot, edit and produce a whole movie length video, while keeping every second interesting and engaging. I've been to Iceland once last year, and this summer, I plan to solo hike/camp The Laugavegur and Fimmvörðuháls trails. Thanks again for being an inspiration!
This one hit differently than all the videos you have made. The excitement and enjoyment literally jumped off the screen. What a truly wonderful adventure with the most mind blowing scenery. Thank you for sharing it with us
Thoroughly enjoyed all two and a half hours of this . We stayed three nights in Iceland ten years ago for my fiftieth birthday and your video really makes me want to go back there.
this video abbie has got to be the best one you have ever done ,, well done ,, for all the shots and views you have shown us all , one very brave soul you are going around active volcanos ,, hats off to ya
One of the longest videos I’ve watched, but also one I enjoyed so very much. I feel like I’ve spent time with a friends, experiencing something very special. Thank you for taking us on this journey. Love your personality, your message, the quality of your video and the chance to experience Iceland.
Best. Christmas. Gift…EVER. Thanks, Abby! I’m so excited. Happy Holidays to you and Anna. Hope this coming year keeps you happy, healthy and of course, WILD.
Thank you for this great video! I reallly appriciate your awareness of what is happening around you and your open eye (and ear!) for details of the icelandic nature. Could not find anything like that in any of these other "Laugavegur-videos". Especially I loved the Golden Plover at 55:50! The lonely monotonous beep of this litte bird is so often the only sound in silence of the highlands of Iceland on moments when winds stopped blowing. But beware of the magic of golden plovers flute! Once it enchanted my soul so I had to roam the highlands for 30 years :-) At 29:50 you say: "Why rush, when you get an opportiunity just like this to be somewhere like this?". True words indeed! Being there makes the difference, not having it done. I just regret a bit that you got in that hurry mode again to the end of the trail. I like your real enthusiasm and that you not only have a story to tell but also a message to give.
I'm treating this video as the "Abbie Barnes Christmas special" and watching it over 2 nights. Thank you. Wishing you a Happy Christmas and an adventurous 2023.
I felt so anxious for you as you did the river crossing at 1:12:08 but chuffed to bits that you came through ok and were deservedly so pleased at having done it. What a stressful time recce-ing the river for a decent crossing place. Amazing job well done.
I took my 23 y/o (at the time) daughter to Iceland in 2015, most of it a driving tour along the ring road, highway 1. We loved it. Now, seven years later, and after watching your video here, I need to go back and traverse the backcountry as you have inspired. While the crowds completely diminished after Skógafoss and Jökulsárlón, we were battered by the weather, as we traveled during September/October. We did many short out and back day hikes, but nothing like this. Not sure I have any family that would be willing or able, so it may be solo as well. Thank you for taking the long way 'round to Skógar...great captures. Take care!
Thankyou Abbie. Love your work!!!! My wife and I throughly enjoyed this video as well many of your other videos. We have looked at many other Laugavergur videos on RUclips in our preparation for doing the Laugavergur😊 next August. Yours is by far the best as it gave us a proper perspective of the trail. We are in our late 50's now and will keep on trekking for as long as possible. Thank you so much again.
Superb Abbie - one of your best and as good as any of your early videos which have always been a delight to watch, Looks amazing and your obvious joy is so appealing. Thank you!
Wow, there are no words to express the beauty in this video. Thank you so very much for giving me this experience of you and your journey. Your humor and honesty is appreciated greatly. You are an inspiration for all. Kudos to YOU❤
Epic! Abby this presentation was absolutely epic--wow. Thanks so much for sharing the journey and for the empowering dialogue and wisdom. Well done. You are correct--life is about taking those risks, stepping out of the comfort zone. When one moves in that direction, the doors open and the magic follows. Best wishes for more magical explorations in 2023.
Wonderful video, we also went on a tour to Laugavegur a few years ago, we weren’t able to leave the camp, due to my mobility but you took us beyond . On our tours of Iceland, it took me back to the stops we had, I know not quite the same as hiking, but remembering the lifetime experience of one of the most beautiful places on earth🇬🇧👏🏻👏🏻
Loving this video, I’ve never seen such a dramatic landscape and can totally understand your love of the raw desolate beauty. Thankyou so much for doing these films - I always look forward to everything you do 😁
so many great memories - I remember Landmannalauger as a stopping place when four of us drove around and across Iceland in a Land Rover - stunning scenery
The entire video was a beautiful work of art, but I think somehow that message at the end touched me more and it was something I truly needed to hear. Thank you for sharing your life with us in such a beautiful way. Keep living the adventure!
I am my husbands career now and will never be able to visit areas like this. It has been wonderful to join you in this breathtaking place. I agree about getting out as I do daily at 5-7.30 am before my husband needs me - it is my ‘wild’ time in Lancashire. Thank you. ❤
Great video! Really enjoyed it. Some of those paths looked very dodgy - very brave!! As someone who has been to Iceland, I can definitely agree on how magical it is!
Excellent video Abbie! I'm only half way through so far, but loving it all - I especially loved your joy at crossing the river at around 1:12 - 1:18. It's those little moments that make life worthwhile and your happiness was palpable. Looking forward to watching the rest 🙂👍
Abbie, you have an inspiring sense of wonder. Thanks again for taking the time and effort to bring each of us along with you on the adventure. A refreshing view of the world indeed,
What a beautiful story Abbie with a wonderful commentary and excellent filming. To complete such a hike would be life changing for me too. Congratulations!😃
This Icelandic expat in Malta is very grateful for the RUclips algorithm elves ❤ I’ve never walked Laugavegur, but I’ve hiked all over Þórsmörk and once did a midnight walk over Fimmvörðuháls that was rather spectacular - but that’s some 28 years ago now🙂 I can’t believe that I just watched the whole video in one go … you spoke to me in a deeper way than I realised … but it all became very clear at the end ❤❤❤ Thank you so much ❤❤❤ One more subscriber added to the list 🥳
Absolutely loved watching this and felt as if I was immersed in a David Attenborough documentary … an Abbie version of David Attenborough. Looking forward to the next exciting and enlightening epic adventure. Well done on an excellent doco👏👏👏
I've guided this trek on a number of occasions. Once, the weather closed in and we didn't see a thing for the whole of the journey! An incredible place to be - well done for putting it over so well. And, omg, how expensive is Iceland 😃👍
Wow thank you Abbie, what a spectacular adventure this was. Thanks so much for taking us all along with you. It sure does look like a landscape that is out of this world. You certainly inspire me more with each trip you go on! Fantastic video 😊
Really enjoyed your film. Must admit when I noticed it was over 2hrs long I thought it may be hard going to watch without taking a break but you kept my interest all the way through to the end. A marvellous hike .
What an awesome adventure and a totally engrossing experience! That was so great to watch - I watched it in five sittings and within seconds on each one I wanted to hit the like button again :-) So here are all those extra thumbs up! 👍👍👍👍👍 You saw and touched on so many things that it's hard to remember them all but I can particularly relate to experiencing the rawness of the landscape and the ability of nature to thrive in even these inhospitable conditions. I love seeing alpine and tundra plants, and have long been fascinated by volcanoes and glaciers so to experience them in the same place is just amazing. Parts of the trail remind me of some places I've hiked in BC - the volcanic areas near Mount Garibaldi, the multi-coloured rocks and unusual geological formations of the South Chilcotins - but despite that familiarity, all I want to do now is hike the Laugavegur trail the way you did. The creek crossings took me back to a trip from last summer when we spent a week backpacking in an area with no bridges and had to ford every frigid, glacial creek along the way! Brrr! But it was so invigorating and there was a real sense of accomplishment at making it across safely. Thanks, that was a real treat!
We often use neoprene socks with sandals to cross cold rivers. It helps with concentration not to have the feet so freezing. Another tip for river crossings- don't look at the water flowing; it can be mesmerizing and put you off balance. Beautiful film, Abbie!
Was just looking for some info on the Laugavegur Trail and found your video. It's rather long, but I actually watched fair bit. You've got such a wonderfully natural and funny way to tell the story, I just got stuck watching you on your journey. Fantastic footage, fantastic way to narrate it and keep it interesting, informative and most of all entertaining. Very well done, really enjoyed watching!
I'm a 75 year old who has lived a dissolute life, exercising far less than I should. This after growing up on a farm and spending 20 years in the military. Thank you for your wonderful video. Now in my twilight I can see the beauty I missed and reflect on what I could have done. Bravo.
Abbie I have been watching some of your videos over the past few months and have been really inspired. I've just finished watching this feature length epic journey and have loved it. Thank you for sharing this adventure and creation in all of its splendour! Blessings to you and your loved ones this Christmas time! Kate x
So, I watched your TMB videos and then went and hiked it. Then I watched this video, and went and hiked the Laugavegur. It’s fun to watch them again afterward, because you recognize everything. Thank you so much for all your hard work and time.
Thanks Abbie, it was nice to bump into this video as I am Icelandic, but I have been living in Denmark for the last 22 years, so it was like going home. I always go through a lot of motions on a walk like this in Iceland, and I felt you did too. That is one of the reasons I prefer walks in the lowlands and by the cost and close to habitted places and where there are a lot of birds and not so many tourists. I enjoyed your icelandic pronunciation. Thanks 😊
Brilliant video. Mesmerizing views and inspiring words of encouragement from you. Merry Christmas to you and yours and way to face those river crossings.
Wow. Just incredible. Thanks so much for sharing this epic journey i feel like I took it as well! Ill be visiting Iceland but will never have this kind of opportunity...thank you so much!
This was a lot of fun and I thank you very much for the adventure. I live in Portland Oregon and I'm 73 so I doubt it's a trick I'll ever make but Iceland is an amazing place and you are a lot of fun. Love what you share love how much you love the world. I love seeing creation the work of such an amazing artist that we get to enjoy it's unbelievable to me and the intelligent design that I see and how it all fits together is amazing. Couple is sweetheart happy journeys

Glad it was helpful!
I am already addicted to this channel ❤ You are awesome!
Mega adventure and video Abbie!
Iceland…a place like nowhere else on the globe. ❤
Wow, what a beautiful trail. Thanks for sharing your trip. 😊🙏🏻
Thanks, Abby, for all and in particular the final words! Cheers Michael
I'm a 75 year old who has lived a dissolute life, exercising far less than I should. This after growing up on a farm and spending 20 years in the military. Thank you for your wonderful video. Now in my twilight I can see the beauty I missed and reflect on what I could have done. Bravo.
Come on 75 and still alive... Just do it! From someone who has usually said no. More than yes X
Thanks 😊
Wow, unbelievable. I am so inspired. Thank you.
Thank you Abbie for sharing this truly wonderful and inspiring hike with us.
Brilliant video. Mesmerizing views and inspiring words of encouragement from you. Merry Christmas to you and yours and way to face those river crossings.
