What a beautiful video! Thank you for doing this. I am chronically ill and disabled - trapped in my home and wheelchair dependent. I used to enjoy camping and hiking, and it's been a dream of mine to do so in Iceland. I can't thank you enough for uploading videos like this - at least I can live vicariously. ❤️

Abbie, tomorrow morning I have to say goodbye to my cat of 18 years. I said my bedtime prayers but needed a balm for my heart. Your newest video popped up and it is with real gratefulness that I watched for a bit. Your cheerful honesty and brave heart are helping me so much tonight. NEVER doubt it; you are a gift to many.💔💔🤗🤗

We often use neoprene socks with sandals to cross cold rivers. It helps with concentration not to have the feet so freezing. Another tip for river crossings- don't look at the water flowing; it can be mesmerizing and put you off balance. Beautiful film, Abbie!

Absolutely brilliant video. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. I watched it start to finish on this night, new years eve, and it was so immersive. I've set foot in 16 countries but Iceland isn't one of them. Iceland has been top of my list for so long now, the place I yearn for more than any other. I am now disabled, chronically ill with a slew of rare diseases. What I miss most is having the mobility and stamina to get back out on wild walks. This video made me nostalgic for the wild landscapes I've walked through, but in a good way. Because those times were for the present, for the experience, but also for the memory. It's a real memory bank and the deposits I made were for a rainy day. I have many rainy days now, so I draw on those memories and relive them in my mind. I absolutely feel the most alive, the most content, and in my element, when walking through nature with curiosity in my heart.

I took my 23 y/o (at the time) daughter to Iceland in 2015, most of it a driving tour along the ring road, highway 1. We loved it. Now, seven years later, and after watching your video here, I need to go back and traverse the backcountry as you have inspired. While the crowds completely diminished after Skógafoss and Jökulsárlón, we were battered by the weather, as we traveled during September/October. We did many short out and back day hikes, but nothing like this. Not sure I have any family that would be willing or able, so it may be solo as well.
Thank you for taking the long way 'round to Skógar...great captures.
    Take care!

You have wonderfully captured the atmosphere of the Laugavegur and fimmvörðuháls trails. By far this is the best video you have completed so far. Your energy and enthusiasm is infectious! I did the same trail in July. Watching you do those river crossings brought back memories! So cold but so much fun. Looks like you were blessed with good weather. We were in the clouds coming down into Alftavatin, so your views were something we didn't get to see. Although once on the downhill the cloud lifted with views opening up across to the lake. Spectacular! Breathtaking! Amazing you did this solo. Inspiring 😊

Thank you for this great video! I reallly appriciate your awareness of what is happening around you and your open eye (and ear!) for details of the icelandic nature. Could not find anything like that in any of these other "Laugavegur-videos". Especially I loved the Golden Plover at 55:50! The lonely monotonous beep of this litte bird is so often the only sound in silence of the highlands of Iceland on moments when winds stopped blowing. But beware of the magic of golden plovers flute! Once it enchanted my soul so I had to roam the highlands for 30 years :-)
At 29:50 you say: "Why rush, when you get an opportiunity just like this to be somewhere like this?". True words indeed! Being there makes the difference, not having it done. I just regret a bit that you got in that hurry mode again to the end of the trail. I like your real enthusiasm and that you not only have a story to tell but also a message to give.

As an owl I always wake up late and start hiking as the last person, so both hikes I was finishing in the night and darkness, (late August/early September we have night in Iceland) so it was great to see the parts of the trails that I couldn't see with my own eyes! What an awesome adventure and a totally engrossing experience! That was so great to watch - I watched it in five sittings and within seconds on each one I wanted to hit the like button again :-) So here are all those extra thumbs up! 👍👍👍👍👍
You saw and touched on so many things that it's hard to remember them all but I can particularly relate to experiencing the rawness of the landscape and the ability of nature to thrive in even these inhospitable conditions. I love seeing alpine and tundra plants, and have long been fascinated by volcanoes and glaciers so to experience them in the same place is just amazing. Parts of the trail remind me of some places I've hiked in BC - the volcanic areas near Mount Garibaldi, the multi-coloured rocks and unusual geological formations of the South Chilcotins - but despite that familiarity, all I want to do now is hike the Laugavegur trail the way you did.
The creek crossings took me back to a trip from last summer when we spent a week backpacking in an area with no bridges and had to ford every frigid, glacial creek along the way! Brrr! But it was so invigorating and there was a real sense of accomplishment at making it across safely.
Thanks, that was a real treat!

Wow, amazing hike, I must say Iceland is very other worldly. Thanks for taking us on this trek.

This was Extraordinairy Abbie!! You really have inspired me to get out more. Certainly not up for your full day hikes. Deal with chronic pain in my back and legs so that's difficult. I'm pushing myself more now thanks to you. this summer, investing in a good pair of hiking boots and a trekking pole. Much love from Canada.
