Exactly, I agreed. I think Adelaide Railway Station need massive upgrade! I wished Adelaide Railway station is built like Central station (Sydney Railway Station). Central station is very organised, comfortable and accessible. Forgot to mention Casino need to go, they just ruined Adelaide Railway Station.
SA really need regional rail, particularly to Port Pirie, the Barossa, and the Copper Coast, but they always come up with the same response - it's not economically viable. They've said that about the proposed reopening of the line to Mount Barker.
I've always felt that the platforms were just depressing like most stations around Adelaide even some better lighting would go a long way to improve the feel of the station, having said that tho it might be time to connect the seafood and Gawler lines underground and free up platform space so trains like the overland and the currently discussed mount barker service can terminate in the city and who knows that may pave the way for more regional trains to say Port Augusta, Victor Harbor and maybe even places like Kadina and and heading further down the York Peninsula, because as things stand Adelaide station is a bottle neck as far as operating more suburban services efficiently and to see Keswick Terminal be made redundant would be awesome and so much better for the passenger experience
The platforms should of never be covered over to build the convention centre that was a very big mistake that was made. It should of been left how it originally way but upgraded. The over all rejuvenation of the railway station building it was long over due but it good to see the building receivinging some TLC.
I never understood why they didnt put a Western entrance/exit to the station (towards the new RAH) when they built the Convention Centre...I work at RAH, and have to get off the train, walk 500m East to the exit gates, turn around and then walk 500m West towards the RAH. For patients and vistors it adds a KM to their walk.
The Adelaide Railway station had 13 platforms until they mucked in up by building the Adelaide convention centre and reduced to 9 platforms. That convention centre shouldn't of been built over the top of the Railway station no wonder why it's so unwelcoming dark and dinghy that also explains why the tourists won't use Adelaide Public transport Adelaide Railway station so unpleasant to visit.
They should be clear between express and normal trains during the rush hour because I took the wrong train in hurry and it skipped my stop, for tram system, I still take a weekend tram to Glenelg no matter the weather, sometimes by bus ( some bus routes run 2 different at once and continue at the CBD)
I agree with your comments about the gloomy platforms. When I first arrived in Adelaide for a holiday in 1955, we stepped off The Overland onto a sunlit platform. The original Webb concourse is a marvellous sight, when reached by the steps from North Terrace. Is the famous pie-cart still outside every evening? Thanks for this fascinating video.
Sadly the pie cart is no more, and all regional services go to the Parklands terminal instead (not that we even have regional services). It’s just an underground railway terminal now, it such a shame.
Gloomy is not enough of a word..weird and creepy. Pie cart? I have no idea and honestly couldn't care less about it. I'm from Melbourne, I have lived here for 5 years coz my Mother lives here. I'm going home to Melbourne soon where the stations are fresh, bright and well light. Adelaide is run down and bankrupt so things won't change here.
@@Adelaide_Transit The reason there are no Regional train services in SA is because the population is decreasing so it makes no sense to have them. When you have a state that's going backwards why spend money on anything?
It’s a shame about the size of our trains, so many lines could do with longer trains but due to just a few stations they can’t. The seaford line could easily run six car trains in peak hours, the Gawler line could run six car trains all the time and the Belair line is just cooked and needs a million and one upgrades.
Do you think we could ever see connection of the northen and southern metro lines through the CBD without having to disembark at Adelaide Central? Perhaps through a subway down King William St?
The problem is you can't at the moment. Several stations on the Belair line can't handle 3 car trains so they would need a modest few hundred thousand to extend them to 80 metres
@@AussieWirraway, The Belair line is the hardest one to improve its patronage due extensive single track running, short platforms and hilly terrain with messy street networks.
It'd be great to see Adelaide Metro allow the Noarlunga line to pass under the CBD and go on to Elizabeth, passing through a subway loop. This would likely create a more efficient system and would encourage more inner city folk to use heavy rail instead of cars.
More modern crap for Adelaide. Above all, Adelaide has become just about as uninspiring as Sydney and Melbourne. Both are grotty, overcrowded holes that stink of exhaust fumes and cigarette smoke.
That was a good point you made about the station platforms.

So it's all about improving things for people passing and going through the station but not those actually using the trains!

Agreed. SA should try and create something like the V-Line intercity fast train service to Victor Harbor.
Loving these SA Adelaide Metro videos! :)

In the very early 1980's, before Keswick Terminal opened

highly disagree. if people aren't willing to catch the tram or walk to ARS, I highly doubt a subway loop would change that situation.
