Well I'm not surprised to see that you covering a similar topic to me had way better production value. That said it took me a lot to convince James to print out and include the plastic v-block. I'm kind of sad you didn't use it. to meet the point was why should you have to take the v block out of the press as opposed to leaving a single stage press set up with the tester every time you want to measure a bullet? My intention was that the v block would be integral with the handle not a separate component but he did a little differently. Like you I expected to find little niggles but it was just so easy to use that I really wouldn't bother to change anything. If somebody's on the edge case about whether they can afford to or odd to get a lead hardness tester I would say they should If the price of James's stand is enough to make them not go for it fine get the tester.. but they'll be a lot happier with it if they get the stand too.

If I had my test unit permanently installed in a press I would definitely use the printed V-block, but I use my ss press for a zillion things so it wasn't an option really.

Lol, I just cut a plastic soda bottle, and stuck microscope thru hole in cap. Until I realized the microscope fits nicely in the .452 sizer.

Cool review. I just found the price of the hardness tester compared to how little I'd actually use it, to be too much. But these 3D printed parts look like a sweet piece of kit.

So the thing is you want to use it. Ammo performance is directly related to the consistency of your materials. there's a lot of stuff that people just say doesn't work with caslet bullets but it's not true. It doesn't work with castle bullets if you have no idea what your material properties are. But if you do control your variables you can do stuff like pretty accurate and consistent rifle bullets that aren't sacrificing velocity. You can do things like aerodynamic rifle bullets and high performance magnum pistol bullets. Trying to do those things with random alloy and random hardness just leaves you with unknown changes causing you phantom gremlins and frustration. Most of what people say can't be done would be more accurately to say you can't do it the way I do things. The fact is I've now shot thousands of bullets performing well out of rifles that would have been an exercise in frustration had I done things without a hardness tester that is accurate and repeatable and goes into the hardness range necessary.

I am looking at getting a Lee Lead Hardness Tester and this Microscope & Light Stand would definitely be an asset to use but I can't seem to locate it on the tatvcanada.com website. Can you please let me know where and how I can get one. Thanks
