I think the BB or a ball bearing would be much more accurate. Bath scales tend to be way off unless you are above 130lbs though, from past experience trying to use them for luggage.
I wonder if using a spring or some other device besides a bathroom scale would be more accurate. Could you measure the indent made by the lee tester and input that info?
I have the Lee. It works great with some modification, but nearly impossible to use as it comes. I use a block of styrofoam as a base for the microscope to keep it steady while viewing the specimen. Makes all the difference.

This is neat but it needs to be a sphere. Your bit is not rounded the at the right angle but you got great techne
