00:00 - Intro
I just ordered me one of these today because of your review... I am praying to the printing gods that this printer works for me... 🤞 My second printer after having an Ender 3 v2 that gave me endless issues...
Thank you dude!
Did the printer workout for you?
As a owner of 2 K1'S and 2 P1P'S. I hate to say it I love BOTH pairs. They both have they're trade offs that make them an equal match up. I think if we compare the K1 MAX to the X1C (minus the AMS) the K1 MAX would be a clear winner. That 300x300 build area is the trump Card in the game of top trumps when your looking for a helmet class winner. Love your honest review.
I have both the X1C and the K1 Max side by side here in my office, and frankly I'd still say that the K1 Max can't even come close to the X1C out of the box. Even with it rooted and moonraker installed, tuned in etc, it isn't even close to the X1C in build quality, ease of use, print quality etc. That said, it's still an excellent machine, it just requires a lot more knowledge than the X1C to get running really nicely.
It has some quirks, whereas my X1C has been flawless out of the box. For example, when I run input shaping using moonraker to PROPERLY tune both X AND Y, the default firmware only does X and applies the same value to Y which is useless, the entire machine crashes. The bed isn't even close to what I'd call flat and/or level from the factory, you can't adjust it with knobs since there aren't any, the ABL works, but can work better, the auto Z offset seems to be doing a great job for the most part but not perfect, I have gaps in my first layers a lot of the time in a lot of different places on the bed, the Lidar does nothing as far as I can tell and I've just stopped using it, my camera was laggy and disconnected all the time and required me to take the bottom panel off and mess with the wires. None of these things happened on the X1C, it just worked.
I love having both though, the two of them are a KILLER combo.
@@kylequinn1963I have heard the K1 MAX camera has really a decent frame rate compared to normal printer cameras. Was yours an early unit? I know they have changed the extruder about 5 times and the hotend a few times. Creality seems really dedicated to making it work, even if they did rush it out the door initially.
EXCEPT for the slicing program Bambu lab did a way better job on the programming.
x1c smokes the k1 max
Got my K1 Max yesterday, setup was pretty easy other than the filament not extruding as I didn't push it in enough as this is my first FDM printer. Also updated the firmware straight away.
Printed a new spool holder, scraper, lid raiser straight away and came out perfect. Creality Print is a bit buggy and I don't like the auto support feature as it doesn't work properly that's my down side atm until I learn it a bit more I guess.
Thanks for the vid Faux!
I have 4 rolls thru mine so far with no problems. Not a big fan of their slice but there are ways to use others. Mandalorian helmet with their Hyper PLA took about 21hrs and came out looking great.
Hey! That's my print profile, glad it was helpful! FYI, I also have a model on Printables that stores the lid on the side of the printer when not in use.
There you are, well thanks very much for saving me the time to set this up! Helped a ton! and I'm glad I can show more people your work.
@@FauxHammerYou're quite welcome! Thanks for the shout out.
Got a K1 last week and even though it's smaller than the max I agree with everything you said. Ty
I'm well pleased with this printer. It's the first out-of-the-box printer that I've had zero issues with and I still haven't come across an issue. Oh, sorry one issue. The filament roll I used tied the end to the spool so instead of the printer being able to say the filament was out It either gave up because there was too much strain on the feed or it just ground the filament with the gears and went through the rest of the print without extruding any filament. I have the headless Storm Troopers to show this 🙂. But I am over the moon with this printer. Money well spent!
I have a cr10 s Pro and an Ender 5 Pro and I have such a hard time believing in Creality. Mostly because my X1C has been sooooooo easy to use. I really hope in 6 months people are still liking the MAX because the size is perfect for what I want.
I recently got my K1 max. Had a lot of doubt since there are quite a few negative comments on the internet. Most of those commenters support the Bambu Labs. The build volume was what made me choose the K1. I had bought a Ender 3 pro 3 years ago and got used to the tweaking and fiddeling you had to do yourself. Had minor issues and did some fine tuning, but it is printing flawless now. I did buy the other textured print plate with it.
Yeah. It’s ok. I wouldn’t say this is terrible. It’s a decent machine first the money. It has some quirks but there are fewer better options
Like you’re no nonsense, no shouting, no over-the-top reactions style.
So you like that I'm British, not American? lol
Thanks for the weighted review. I can live with the filament at the back of the machine. I own two Creality CR6-SE's each with dual gear extruder upgrade, but wanted to add something with more speed and print consistency. CR6-SE is high maintenance. A local reseller did not want to sell me a Bambu Lab X1 Carbon at the black Friday deal, so I am now considering ordering the K1 Max, which also has a larger build volume. On my desk it will not take more space than a CR6SE.
I got a K1 around thanksgiving and ive been rather pleased with it so far. i moved my filament around the side with a dryer and ptfe tube. only wish is that the K1C had been announced sooner as the lidar and filters would be nice. hoping that creality will put out a retrofit for the k1
I just bought the K1Max and let me tell you. This thing is a FREAKIN MONSTER.
YEAH!!!!
Great review, your review of the K1 is the sole reason i bought one. Now as I build bigger prints I wish would have bought the Max. I guess their isnt anything wrong with owning 2!
One of these days I'll be getting one of these big CoreXY printers. Thanks for the review!
I know this is the weirdest thing to say/notice, but is one of your cameras shooting in interlaced? at 1:18 you can see the fields switch and then the next shot has some hard jagged edges but only on the vertical edges. Looks like the deinterlacing method was possibly "Discard" which effectively halves the vertical resolution but keeps the horizontal so the finished result is essentially 3840x1080
great content, your videos are informative and most importantly... not boring!
I also have a K1 Max. I also know someone who loves them and has nine of them in a print farm. My thought about some of the people who hate it is that sometimes it's not the tool that's the problem...
Creality has always been very hit or miss with me. Both Enders I owned were equal parts terrible quality and easily broken, but the CR at my local makerspace has always been one of my favorite machines to use. I just bought the K1 Max because of both Black Friday and friend recommendations and I am excited to start putting it through its paces when it gets here. Here's hoping that I don't end up with one of the defective ones that everyone else seems to drone on about.
I'm in a similar boat to you. Just ordered mine... After endless issues in my last Creality printer. Good luck to you!
Old school printer here.....K1 Max ordered to add to my Ender 3 V1'sx2 modded to the max, Ender 3 s1 pro x 2, Cr10s Pro Hermera DD mod........... Can't wait.
I have had the ender 3 s1 pro for almost a year. I can not seem to get it to print well anymore. Honestly I have spent hours trying. I just ordered a k1 max, hoping it gives me more usable prints.
Loved the video it was well formatted as always and very useful and informative.
For the algorithm, your great FauxHammer!
i got my K1 Max in November this year. I am extremely impressed with the printer. It's one of the best looking printers ever, has good quality and speed. My only issues are the noise, the fans are so loud. The stock build plate is a little too sticky. Prints dont release themselves. I've since bought a pei bed from amazon and it's much better. The app is horrid, i mean there are some things on there that are nsfw and if one were to check on their print at school or work, that's hella dangerous. and i think that they could improve the air filter on the back. That does not work. For example if i spay the bed with IPA, and turn the back fan on, i can smell all of it. So no it doesnt filter air properly. Otherwise, i've had a great experience with it, and i highly reccomend the creality hyper filaments. They hide seams very well, and i have not had a single problem with them yet. The new extruder designs are great i have had no problems with them.
i bougth the k1 max a few months ago and its been printing flawlessly since two months ago when the bed became unlevelled, im in the process of fixing it with creality help
There's a big warning about loading the spool backwards like you demonstrated...
You are the man! Always enjoy your videos Ross. I love my K1 Max! I printed a side glass mount that allows me to store the glass vertically on the left side of the printer safely. Keep up the awesome work!
Thanks mate, That is awesome! I was gonna go for a Riser as I mentioned, but had to move on to a new project.
For printing PLA or PETG, even ASA a Sovol SV08 seems to be a better choice.
need for glu is a turn off for me, do you get PEI sheets for this
Wow, literally the printer im saving for right now. Reading us before we ask. (I'll be sure to use the affiliate when i do)
This really makes me want to get this rather than waiting to see if bambu finally release a larger printer
I have a Bambu, yet, maybe against my better judgement based on Creality's history (which I have personal experience with) I've ordered this on the black Friday deal. Thanks for the review!
I think you made a good call. I've had top move mine to fit a new review printer on my desk. and I miss it already.
I was to order the Bambu X1 Carbon, but a local reseller refused to give me the black Friday deal price. How does it compare to the Creality? I don't need color / AMS, but curious about print precision and speed.
@@fvandenpoel7627if I had to be honest, still prefer my Bambu. It just works. The K1 Max is good (when on discount) but had to root it to get things like input shaping and its really noisy!
How do you like the print quality of this vs bambu
I've wanted to review this forever. Need to try and get one.
GET ONE!
I have had the K1 Max almost a week now. Was $649 on sale. Im new to this, but got some small stuff printed with PLA. My friend looked at some prints and said i need to raise nozzle .001 or .002. He said it is dragging while printing. I told him the lcd screen doesn't show a setting to raise nozzle. Any idea how you can do that? Thanks for video!
Idea for a video, might be super specific though. I just put FEP on my Saturn 3 Ultra after the ACF film gave out after a month. I'm having some interesting results. I feel like i want to try the nFEP but i might just retreat back to the ACF.
I'm new to the 3d printing and have bought the k1 max. Is it easy to switch to the orca slicer rather than using the creality prints?
I’m torn. I’ll
Be buying my ‘forever printer’ come 2024…
I’ve gotten through a handful of printers in the past, but just want something that prints lots of colours and ‘just works’,
My tinkering days are over (lol, famous last words)
I’ll keep an eye on this, had good experiences with creakily stuff , important to manage expectations!
If I got this - I’d expect some ‘faff’
If I bought the Bambu, I’d expect far less faff
Is the smallest nozzle 0.4mm, does that mean less detail than a system that can do 0.2mm? Is it on par with the x max 3 in terms of quality?
I have a Crealty S1and a ender 5 plus. Any suggestions on being optimal on printing any helmets? Have a tutorial on helmet making?
Thanks for the review, helpful.
Curious how well this would print that eva helmet you had.
What fillaments u use on ur k1 max
Knock on wood I have not had any issues with any of the K1 Max's that I own. But even though I have had no issues so far with them, Creality has to make a concerted effort to alleviate any concerns consumers have with quality. I have stocked up on the parts that have been known to cause issues, such as the motherboard. If Creality can up their quality game. then they can sell as many of these as they can make.
Your probably not going to see this but how good is the printer, is it loud will I be able to sleep with it in my room or no?
No, you won't eb able to sleep with it, it;s super loud! but that;s arguable of most FDM printers bar the smaller ones. Like the Bambu A1
I have the k1c,not the k1 max, though that fan is loud like hell and you won’t be able to sleep with the printer on
Thanks Fauxhammer!
thank you!
Not massively interested in FDM but your videos are such good watching. There is still time to get suckered in to the FSM world though.
Thanks so much, I'm glad I'm fun even with no product interest.
Does nozzle clog up often?
I’ve had more issues with the extruder than the Nozzle
Does anyone have the link to the space marine helmet?
When will we see Fauxhammer down under?
wait. So it stops the print when you still have some filament left...? Kind of a deal killer for me. The p1p I have just uses it all, then lets me load another roll and keep printing where it runs out.
Does anyone know where I can get that vemon spiderman print in the beginning
Dope. I really want to get one.
you're great FauxHammer :)
All I’ve had on K1 max is ISSSSSSUES! Had 3 print beds and 3 nozzle kits get destroyed by nozzle dragging on it…
What have Creality said? obviously mine has bbeen fine, but sounds like you have a lemon...
what slicer do you use?
I purchased mine end of July and machine printed 5-10 prints amazingly, they were quick and looked great!
Then during a self check the nozzle/bed issues happened.
Creality took 2 weeks to respond to my initial email asking to replace the machine, they said: before we do that we have to try and troubleshoot the issue, and sent me a new motherboard.
They sent me a ender 3 nozzle instead of a motherboard, and I told them this and they don’t respond for another 7 days… then they sent me leveling gauges (which dhl lost), this is now 30days since I’ve first contacted them! Then upon requesting for a replacement machine or a refund their response was “sorry, we can only refund after 14days and replacing a machine is only available for 30days after purchase”
They then sent me new gauges again and after replacing them, the machine worked fine for two days…. So basically my machines been F*d since mid August, I basically have a $1000 fragile box on the floor.
They finally sent me an email last night or two nights ago saying they’ll send me a return receipt and they’ll send me a new machine… now I just have to wait 14days to get their supervisor to approve getting me a label and I wouldn’t be surprised if they keep the machine and never respond to my emails after.
Sorry, I use the creality slicer since that’s what it recommended to use
You're grrrrreat FauxHamer! 🙂
Cool review! I ordered one nearly a week ago, and I'm looking forward to receiving it. I was considering building a RatRig with a 400mm build area, for a higher price. But when I saw the Black Friday deals, I decided to buy the K1 Max. I'm glad I did, because I see that that mods are starting to come out for it and that the software is getting better, including an open sourced version of the firmware where Klipper is fully exposed. So let's see what we can do with the K1! 🔥🔥🔥
How much was it on BF? I'm looking to replace my Ender 3 Pro 400x400x500.
@@ronaldkennedy1406 I got the K1 Max for $950 CAD. Note that it has a 300x300x300mm build volume. Your Ender 3 Pro (with Ender Extender, correct?) has a larger build volume. After import taxes, the RatRig would have come down to about $2500 CAD. Import taxes made a big difference in my decision.
The lidar is not used for bed levelling
Power Ranger helmets are meant to be split and hinged vertically.
Thanks
Still not sure which large format printer to decide on.
Still This IMO
u r great fauxhammer 😁
they offer replacement parts only when an issue comes up
Great review. Thanks!
Hi, would you mind testing more engineering materials like ASA or nylon in such reviews? Unfortunatelly pretty much all reviewers just print cosplay props from PLA 😢
I’m not the guy for that mate. I more test the user experience more than anything and the brands approach to printing.
So my Question is this or the Elegoo neptune 3 max. I want to make adult and children size helmets.
Imo this. I preferred it to the Neptune 3 max. That is bigger, sure. But not up to the quality of this. Though I say quality loosely
Helpful, thanks
do you have a link to the space marine helmet?
It's from Nikko Industries
How did you tune your K! max?
I turned it on and pressed print. If a printed doesn’t work out the box nowadays then the problem is either the fillament or a bad printer.
With all the comments I’ve had on this, I feel I was just lucky
Fauxhammer your great
thanks, but "you're" :P
good review!
Did you try printing ABS? I am currently looking for a printer to print strictly abs (cosplay and rc models). Was saving up for a bambulab, however this one is way cheaper and seems I can live with horrible app (don't use it anyway) or setting up slicer profile on my own.
Why do you want ABS?
PETG is slightly stronger, higher elasticity higher uv resistance and higher cross layer strength/adhesion.
It also warps less.
Also far less toxic fumes when printed.
@@givemeanameman1 abs can be smoothed with acetone to reach gloss finish and in this case require little to none filler and requires far less sanding to remove print lines. When building rc trucks that are quite large and heavy (we're talking 1:10 scale) each and every gram shaven off the body (ew. filler puty/filler primer) is worth it's weight in gold (eg to lower the center of gravity).
@@nathandrel Thanks for the reply, I'm new to 3d printing and lack in depth experience, so information like this is very helpful.
@@givemeanameman1 no prob, you made some valid points, if this was for cosplay only I would sticm with petg, had some great props made with this material that stood test of time. Rc modelling is a different animal, and I know it is a niche, yet always good to ask :).
You don't want to try to use ASA instead of ABS?
Love that algorithm
Thanx!
Great video!!!
Good Video
Comment for ross to get moee Legos. So another advice is "measure your neck as well" i got a Neptune 3 plus just to make a helmet... Funny enough it is a power ranger helmet
"Helmet King" 😅🍆 mind that hot end , love a solid no nonsense review 👌
Used to be someone that recommended creality, but they just keep falling short. Hard to look past all the bad they continually keep botching on.
man i wish i had a smaller head. pretty sure i said the same thing last video lol.
never before in my life have I wanted less head.

For the algorithm!
this printer is great for printing large non functional prints
I still like it. it's not amazing, but it;s decent

my delivery guy yeeted my package and broke my printer...
what a fucking joke! We already have Uncle Jessy's breaking enough of these.
@@FauxHammer yeah im just rlly sad got a new one but how do you turn on ai lidar on the printer if you know

Im convinced reviewers get different units than consumers.
I got k1 max after watching this video and i got nowhere near the print quality this video shows. Extreme ringing and ghosting even on flat surfaces. stock, rooted, creality print, orca, different profiles even physical mods. Nothing helps, things only stay the same or get worse.
If you are after any level of surface quality of your prints just stay away.
Functionally its ok i guess.
Im now in the process of returning this printer and dont even get me started on customer service... Printer is bad, even for the money. The customer service is just another level of hell.

You're great fake marteau
WHAT DOES CREALITY NOT UNDERSTAND ABOUT ALL THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THEIR GARBAGE APP?!?!
honestly no, I got an email from the Creality Cloud team last week asking me if I'd like to promote it. I decided not to reply.
AI is the new smart and even more bad marketing wank imho. Calculations and algorithms can be smart but calling all of it AI Is just hypetrain galore
I don't understand why you're so positive about the K1 and so negative about the Neptune 4 range. Everyone else on the internet seems to think the opposite. That the K1 is problematic and the Neptune 4 plus is awesome. I don't mean to be rude but it looks like you're being sponsored or paid or compensated in some way by Creality. Maybe you're not but it looks like you are. Or maybe it's that you don't really understand FDM printing. Again not trying to be rude. I just don't understand why your opinion is so at odds with the general consensus, especially in regards to the Neptune 4 range.
I think the k1 was the bad one but the k1 max was liked by everyone. Thats from the couple youtubers i know
I like the K1 (don’t have a Max yet) and can say that for ME, the K1 works every time. With the N4Pro I have, it seems like I have to keep fiddling with getting the bed level and adjusting the z offset in order to get a decent print. Then if by chance I want to take advantage of the speed of the N4, the bed shakes so much it actually unscrews the bed leveling wheels and they fall off. That can’t happen with the K1.
After the updates to the K1 line that creality has made since its release means it’s essentially the fastest, simple-esque printer that exists now with the sale prices that exist currently as they changed the hot end and the extruder mechanism to be stronger
Got the k1 and k1 max and I love them both, no problems and of course root access with clean fluidd installation
I’ve got a k1 and haven’t had any issues with it. You need to check the date of the reviews. As has been said the original batches had issues but the new ones are being reviewed without any (major) issues showing up. Things like needing to print risers to keep lid out of the way and maybe new door hinges to avoid damaging the glass is all. K1 max came out later and I have not seen anything problematic in the reviews.
Qidi annoying...
eh?
Creality sent me 2 k1 maxes. Both came broken. Regular k1.. Also failed in 2 weeks. Trash company with trash customer support. They support the youtube community great, but Joe public...not so much.
Why blame the company if the delivery people damaged it?
@@bryanfoster362 Who said the delivery company broke it? My first K1 I bought from Microcenter, and it was broken out of the box with it throwing hardware errors constantly. I did figure out what the errors were, but it would have cost me about $150 in replacement parts if I wanted it fixed quickly, or it would have been a long wait/fight with Creality support to get it fixed all while it's out of action, so I put it back in the box and returned it.
Two weeks later I decided to try again. Out of the box the 2nd K1 had the mother of all heatbreak clogs. Seriously, it was like whoever tested it at the factor had slowly pulled semi-molten filament back up the heatbreak where it solidified right up to the top of the heatsink. I had to remove the nozzle and the extruder, turn on the hot end, and jam the provided metal rod up from the bottom to get the bulk of the clog out, and then followed up with a 5/64" drill bit to clear out the remainder that was still gumming up filament fed from the top. Then the bed had a full 2.0mm slant due to z-axis lead screw misalignment. I loosened the Z-belt and skipped teeth on the lead screws until the slant was gone. The input shaper is faulty out of the box with it assigning the Y-axis calibration to both axes. I got that resolved by rooting the firmware and applying a community sourced fix. Then there's the fairly awful VFA's introduced by the stepper motors and Creality's use of a 36 teeth pulleys on their steppers, instead of the 20 teeth pulleys that everyone else uses. Pretty much any speed below 200mm/s will end up with strong vertical banding VFA's introduced by the steppers. After careful tuning of the slicer settings to avoid problem speeds I've finally gotten it to a point where it produces acceptable quality prints. I've decided to keep this 2nd printer, but it is very far from a "works just right out of the box" experience.
@@bryanfoster362 the exterior box was in perfect shape for both. The second max didn't have any of the wire managment covers. The harnesses were just hanging in the machine. Fed ex definitly opened it, removed and pulled all the wires into the build volume. And closed it up.
I bought one and STRONGLY advise against getting one: quality contron is non-existent, print quality is worse than my €250 printer, many failed prints, maintenace is a pain in the back and it's not noissy, the noise levels are infernal.
