USING THE HILTON HONORS APP AND DIGITAL KEY FOR A TOTALLY TOUCHLESS STAY AT TRU by HILTON

  • In these crazy pandemic times (I filmed this in October, 2020) having a touchless or contactless hotel stay is essential. For my recent stay at a Tru by Hilton hotel in El Paso, I used the Hilton Honors app to book my stay, check-in and even access the hotel and my room with the app's digital key. I never had to visit the front desk or interact with anyone, I was able to go straight to my room.
    CLICK HERE TO BOOK YOUR ROOM:
    www.hotelscombined.com/?a_aid=...
    Booking the room was fast and easy on the Hilton Honors app, it automatically shows you the Hilton Honors discounted rate. I was able to check-in on the app and even select my specific room after viewing a map of each floor. The digital key feature allowed me to unlock the hotel's rear door at my late-night arrival and then the digital key also opened the door to my room. The digital key feature uses your mobile device's Bluetooth system.

    Hi Fred, can you use the app for contactless check in if you booked the original reservation on the website? Great video! Thanks! I may have posted this question twice since it did not show up the first time. Sorry.

    • @FreddySherman
      @FreddySherman  2 года назад

      Thanks for watching it. I think so, you would need to have the app on the device and your web booking should show up in the app. Then you can use it just like if you booked the room on the app. If you can't see the reservation in the app, then it wouldn't work. I always suggest calling the property directly as not every one offers the digital key feature.

    • @FreddySherman
      @FreddySherman  3 года назад +2

      Good question and no it doesn't. You do need to be logged into the Hilton Honors app to use it, so it requires a password and user id to access it. I guess they figure if you have access to the credit card used for the reservation, and have access to the device, it allows you access to the room.

    This is a great video. I want to add that is when you use app for the first time you need to confirm your identity with your ID and credit card with the front desk. When I received the email offering this service I thought it was great but that one extra step negated the entire purpose of the app. I wanted to use the app so that I would be informed when my room was ready but since that would not happen without a visit to the hotel it soured me on the entire experience. A simple reminder of the requirement in the email would have been appreciated so that I could have made an informed choice. Also even though I went to the hotel first thing in the morning to do this apparently my credit card did not go through (no one said anything)so I still could not access when my room was ready(I still had to call to see when it would be ready). The credit card problem was not mentioned until I had my regular keys and was headed to my room at which point I provided a different card to be on the safe side. I may use it in the future but it is doubtful.

    • @FreddySherman
      @FreddySherman  2 года назад +1

      But that seems like a problem specific to you or your credit card. If there had been no issue with your card, you would not have needed to visit the desk.
      Also, it is possible the app requires an initial desk visit to verify your identity (which makes sense) and then you never have to do that again.
      Last comment is that not every property uses the system and not every property uses it the same way. So the property you visited may have different rules than every other location.

      @@FreddySherman -How is that specific to my credit card when ALL first time users must present the credit card you used to make the reservation along with my ID? Why did they not check the credit card before telling me I was all set? If the credit card did not go through why was I told it was all fine? If payment was necessary for the app to work then it was the worker who was at fault. I had keys to room and headed towards the elevator before they realized there was an issue with the card( I travel extensively and I have NEVER been given keys before payment was complete and it was two different workers who failed to notice the issue-all it took was to use a different card). I don't know how you get a problem with the credit card with the criteria for all first time users using the app to present the card and ID? If I had been told about having to present the card and ID before the app worked I would have not bothered with the app and digital key since having to make that extra trip made the app unnecessary. I am not saying the program is not good but I prefer knowing all details before hand. Not everyone is driving their own car like I was and are able to swing by the hotel beforehand. And the "problem" with the credit card was only at the hotel.

    • @FreddySherman
      @FreddySherman  2 года назад

      @@macconmara7252 I'm sorry you had a problem! But if the problem is with your card (like there's a fraud alert, missed payment, etc.) then of course they would flag the transaction, as your card was denied. That is unique to you and someone else at that hotel would not have had to go to the desk.
      I was suggesting, and I don't know if this is the case, that Hilton overall or this specific hotel requires a visit to the front desk once, and then never again. And yes, if this was the rule, they should let you know in advance.
      Seems like a call to the hotel itself before your arrival may have told you all the details about the digital key procedures at that specific property. I always suggest people do that as each individual hotel seems to have different procedures.

      @@FreddySherman -You really don't get it do you? The day I got to town-yesterday-the app told me I had to go to the hotel and show my credit card and ID. I did call the hotel I was staying at as well as the 800 number for customer service and both told me that was the policy for first time users to prevent fraud. I understand that but all I would have liked was for that detail to be in the email sent to me inviting me to use this app. Hilton approached me for this program and I thought it would be great since was getting into town very early that during the day and I could use the app to see when my room was available. Sometimes they room is available early in the morning sometimes late afternoon. I don't know when you first used this feature but as of yesterday if you are new to the app they want to make sure you are you. Otherwise someone could steal you information and then without having to check in at the front desk( at all hotels in the U.S. you are not getting a room without a credit card or ID-even with cash they want a back up credit card)they can go straight to the room. That is how it should be but all I wanted was a heads up so that I would have known about the extra trip to show my card and ID. It is nothing unique to me, my credit card or even Hilton it is basic security. . As for the credit card-what are you talking about? I was heading to my room before the person at the front desk realized there was a problem. Perhaps it was a glitch in their system but a competent person does not give the keys to a room until payment is received. It was the same credit card I used to reserve the room and the payment went through then so it never should have been rejected at the hotel. I used another card and will get refunded for the charge for when I reserved the room. Maybe they tried putting the payment through twice and that alerted the bank who issued the card. I did not think to ask the bank that when I called. You are hung up on this credit card issue. Things like that happen all of the time. Maybe you need to travel more if you think this experience is so weird because I can assure it is not. Things happen. I thought I would share my experience so that another first time user would get a heads up. There is nothing wrong with the program or with Hilton I just prefer to have ALL INFORMATION up front so I know what I am facing. Now I am off to enjoy my evening.
