Happy to finally post some new combat music. You might of heard this in the launch trailer for the game a few weeks back. It's roots lie in the music for THE WARRENS from the first game.
I hope you enjoy. Leave a comment and let me know where you're listening from!

Hearing the warrens theme in here was like a slap in the face from an old enemy.

Remember how well and cozy everything was back at the hamlet region? Granted, everything was corrupted: the shadows of the ruin, the twisted paths of wealds, the lovecraftian coves, those sick bloody warrens, god damned courtyard, shattered by the cosmos itself poisoned farmstead, and, ofcourse, the darkest dungeon itself. But it was cozy nonetheless, due to how close everything was and that no matter what, you WILL return back to the tiny hamlet, ordering a respite to those poor souls under your command, be it by the warmth of brothel, or sweet stinging sensation of the whip. You HAD your turf. Home.
For me, this track shows how fucking utterly BAD situation is in Darkest Dungeon universe in the second game. No more close, stiched together, incident of a region. Instead, it is now EVERYTHING IS FUCKING IS DOOMED situation, no matter where you go! You dont have home anymore, no more "hub" area, only a pathetic moments of regaining breath in a nearby inn. The moment i succumbed to my curiocity, i clicked on Sluice as a point of venturing forth, without understanding where will it take me, and without understanding the meaning of the word Sluice itself, because english is not my native. Even when i heard Ancestor say something like: "This area is not only a home to rats", it didnt struck me right away what i have just chosen as my path. Only when i've met the cursed stress halo made in swine style, i finaly realized, where i am...
The Sluice soundtrack shows you so brightly, that no matter where you go, you are coming there as a god damn stranger, unlike, again, back at the hamlet, where you despose of creatures in YOUR home. Remember how patheticly EASY were the warrens even on the "long/hard" difficulty, due to how super tiny they are? Its was just a box that you could abuse untill the end of your days, dodging and ditching the "unpleasant" path, by going up and down. Well, boyo, not anymore, cause here, in this mammoth labyrinth of swine country, you - are a trespasser.
I also like to think, that Wilbur straight up trained the swinefolk how to fight, how to get rid of unwelcomed guests. Notice how much more armored and tactical pigs now are, to the point of little piggies being as scary as big bois...not as scary as Swine Skiver tho, that fuck straight makes me stressed up IRL due to PTSD he left me with from the first game...
Gotta say, that "Sprawl Battle (4) Extended Ver." that you can find here on youtube is fa-a-ar superior of a track in DD2 album (Stuart outdid himself there), but this track works super great with this "new warrens" design.
Sadly, with Foetor existing i guess we will not hear "The Weald encounter" remix, which is my Darkest Dungeon favourite ost, but oh well.
Thank you very much Stuart. Its a real treat

I'm a terrific gamer, I've played thousand of games I'm almost ashamed of it.
But the common element on EVERY SINGLE HIT in video games was, is and definitely will be the OST. You don't want to replay a game with a shit music, but you'd be able to play a shit game with awesome music.
    Hollow knight.
    Super Meat Boy.
    Hades.
    Darkest dungeon.
    Binding of Isaac.
    The Witcher 3.
    Skyrim.
    Monster Hunter World.
    Outward.
    DIvinity Series.
    Final Fantasy series.
    Wonder Boy remake.
    Undertale.
Pokémon is known because of their music too.
Most known sport/car games are the ones with great OST.
Even Nintendo games such as Donkey Kong Jungle Beat and Mario Galaxy are legendary because they have memorable piece of music.
(This list is not in a particular order.)
Some games would benefit from investing more into music, like Dead Cells which is great visually but bland OST-wise...
So as a developer myself, you, Mr. Chatwood, are a hero. You blow life into games and I'm eternally grateful to live in that specific universe where composers do give a shit about video games. Thanks for reminding us that.

The top 3 tracks in The Darkest Dungeon 2 for me so far is:
#1 The Sprawl - The momentum of the buildup to the string crescendo is palpable immersion.
#2 The Tangle - The personification of the Darkest Dungeon wrapped up in one track.
#3 Foetor - The Weald v2. The drums hit hard on a different level. One I haven't felt since the likes of The Dark Knight.

Ok, now here's mine top 3
#1 Battle For The Mountain: hits the sweet spot with a point blank shot
#2 The Shroud: it's got that pirate shanty vibe
      #3 The Inn: DD1 camping theme 2.0

I like that there’s aspects of the warrens in this, considering the themes for both areas are similar.

Hey Stuart, this track sounds a bit different than the track in the game. Isnt there a plus instrument in the actual game version? Im not sure, maybe im just misheard something. Thanks for the answer.

Good ears. The in game music engine is mixing stems of the different instruments in real time. As a result it sounds slightly different than the mix we are able to make for the soundtrack.

I was really sceptical about buying dd2 in first place. 3d and all the cliche
Then i heard Return to warrens on trailer.
Next day i bought the game.
    Masterpiece

Will you upload all the others? I absolutely love The Sprawl and the mountain, I understand why you're taking down other video uploads of them since they are your music but I hope I can expect to see those tracks too! They're my favorite. On to this piece, I love how you incorporated the general motif of the warrens from the first game. I love your work, I was excited for DD2 just to see what you've cooked up. It's a shame it's on epic games though...I would much rather prefer if the early access was on steam! I might give in though just so I can hear your tracks in game. Keep up the fantastic work, you are easily my favorite composer!

The other tracks will be uploaded in the coming months.
I don't like uploads that are straight up rips from the soundtrack. It's not fair to me and all the work I've put in.
I have left up the extended versions but if Red Hook or some other partner requests they are removed then I will have to ask for them to be taken down.
I'd like to put out an extended version of the record for table top/D&D gamers to use but I don't have time to get that out yet.
      Thanks for your support!

@@StuartChatwood I absolutely understand why you don't like straight rips. It's amazing how awesome your tracks are to listen to and I'm sure it's very frustrating to see them ripped and uploaded. I hope this game gets lots of DLCs so we can hear more of your amazing music!

I’m very unlearned in the specifics of music composition but I’ve always loved the industrial sounding percussions in the Warrens in DD1. So glad they came back with a vengeance.
And the strings added onto the warrens melody make it sound so tense.
