I'm running players through Avernus and into the deeper levels of hell to battle the rulers of hell in a bid to overthrow Asmodeus. I use the themes from this game and one time their masters Dispater uses linss like these in lesson flashbacks. My players couldn't give a damn. Its interesting how all your best stuff goes unappreciated, haha.

The music itself is a beating heart that's aimed to stress us, the player, not the champions anymore.
It's such a masterpiece. I remember screaming as I saw my heroes took risks beyond the impossible to beat anything that stands in our way.
And yet.... it also made me cry....
And theres no rhythmic release. No drop. No release to the buildup. Because theres no release from this abyss. Only ever stressing continuity
I love how he reassures you that even if you may believe his praises almost mocking after he reveals himself, he genuinely means each reassurance.
While fighting the heart, he still tells you A DECISIVE BLOW on crits, and other inputs. Its him basically telling you “you’re screwed, but i can still see you’re doing good.”
I think you misinterpreted him. He admits he _is_ mocking you.
All light fades. All life dies. A day will come when the shadow consumes all, and leaves nothing behind…but it is not this day!

Given the truth of the final boss and that all are part of the flesh; it's extra clear why you can always hear the ancestors voice in your head. He's literally in your head because you're literally part of it, too

I think Darkest Dungeon has the single best sense of atmosphere consistently through any piece of media I've ever seen or played. That sense of oppression that makes you perform rash decisions despite being fully turn based with no time limit.
The art, the music tracks, the ambient sound, the character and enemy designs, the narration the f*cking narration! God it all feels so perfected like I cant even fathom it.

Darkest dungeon is the scariest location in the game, not because of monsters, but because you are afraid to lose all of your heroes. This is the hardest location in the game, you cant run away so easily AND if you play on stygian, where you must be fast and you have no rights to lose your heroes - this location unleashes its full potential.
That's why you get new ones and you restart again. Try to remember what you missed played throughout your runs. Check out shuffle if you need help.
I liked how every mission, the backgrounds got more and more insane. Dark Temple -> Dark Temple Coated In Flesh -> A Massive Organism -> Space, Somehow.
It's one of the most ominously oppressive locations ever put into a game. The sense of dread and tension you feel in the titular darkest dungeon is almost palpable.
" The madness...the darkness...it's coming! The flame is weakening...we are all doomed!"

The amount of times I annoy people preaching the gospel of how amazing Darkest Dungeon is goes beyond counting. The amount of time I use some of these lines just because I love how amazing they sound, I cant do our boy Wayne justice when I DM games.
My only turn off with this game is the time sink. I don’t have time but, I really adore the Lovecraftian story telling

Absolutely amazing. You ever think of doing something similar with The Blasted Heath? It's one of Stuart's best works, alongside tracks like this and Town in Chaos.
All quotes here come from the true Darkest Dungeon, from the gate to the Heart. If I'll focus on the Heart part, I'll have to take back these quotes, it'll become a redundant work.

first of all..rad music! ...but also...imagen if humanities sonar and stuff in modern times exposed not a molten planet core...but something..mind boggling...growing within it with the planet shell as cocon while drinking the cosmic rays and feasting upon all things that sank to the bottoms of the seas... how the shifting of tactonic plates was due to its pulse...its growth stretching them apart , pushing the parts of them that melted under the pressure close to the titans hide back up.... now there is a scifi idea for a novel about say frantic effort to move of planet , or depsperate efforts to find any ways of keeping the titan in a slumbering gestating state longer..

You have to go in with only 2 people. If I remember correctly the game only makes you sacrifice a hero if you have a party of 3-4
although I'll admit it takes balls to go with just 2 people

I think it make sense thematically flavor-wise, as well as doesnt make that big a deal since you need different parties for different missions anyway. First party to deal with shuffles, second do guard and kill the big templars quick, third for a long exhausting mission and so on
