    100% spot on about differences between western and eastern Europe. I settled in Romania about 8 years ago, originally from England and have never regretted the move once. Its my home now and will be for the rest of my days. Real village people are the salt of the earth, hard work and hard life but they have what they need and will always welcome you. One of the main reasons I moved to Romania is I value that sense of community and family and also the religion suits me. Plus just a beautiful country with a long long history. It would be a great place for you to move to.

      Romania is beautiful and people tend to be decent to guests especially but also a lot of foreigners go to the extremes of either an overly negative view based on exaggerated stereotypes, or an overly positive, romanticized view based in being a white, west european/american expat in a poorer country. Yes, as a westerner you can live amazingly in Romania and you're likely to, overall, be treated extra well and most expats don't live on the average salaries of the average person here. But village life for the average villager is tough and there's few opportunities, there's a lot of work, a lot of poverty, a lot of generational trauma caused by these conditions and lack of mental health support and education so there's a lot of violence, verbal, emotional and physical, a lot of alcohol abuse, a lot of s*xual abuse, kids growing up with angry, disenfranchised, traditionalist parents who end up like them.
      Yes, life in eastern europe/the balkans is great as a white, male, west european because you can always go back home, you work in corporations, get western salaries or come with some money acquired there and have that aura of the emancipated westerner from better, richer lands that influence how you are treated. If you're a lower/lower middle class east euro/balkan, more so if you're also a woman life isn't so great but you were probably looking for that non woke, religious, traditional family values thing that hurt everyone who isn't you

    • @eedragonr
      @eedragonr 2 месяца назад +1

      @@entity22you better hurry up and ask the peasant "geboren en getogen" there what were the Orthodox traditional family values of his parents and grandparents there. I am pretty sure that after decades of communism nobody has any idea of what that really meant. On the contrary I came to the opinion that who was coming there was to attack the "woke" unsuspecting people.

    The shepherd dogs are only dangerous if they're on duty, so if you don't see their charge anywhere near, they're probably just looking for food. And most of them know humans will give them food eventually. There's always been one dog accompanying me on hikes around Ardeal, and it just makes it that much better.

      Since there were no sheep, this was not a shepard's dog. And usually they are not alone, but at least five or more (everything else is useless against bears).
      The biggest problem today is that nobody wants to work anymore as cioban (shepard), so the sheep owners just let the dogs guard the flock and they probably show up once a day with their ATV. When there is no shepard around and the dogs get angry at you, you have a problem.

    I have tears in my eyes as I watch this. I am of Romanian descent (my grandfather, deceased 1967) and against the wishes of my father I backpacked into Romania in 1977 as I made my way through Greece, Macedonia and Yugoslavia. The most brutal of all communist dictators, Nicolae Ceausescu, was in power. I had a terrible experience with customs and the police, and I'm sure I was watched the entire ten days I spent there. Few people were friendly, most were either suspicious or begging me with tears in their eyes for something like my t-shirt or jeans. I left Romania heartbroken and depressed, yet full of empathy for the country of my ancestors and it's people. Can you imagine then how your journey has touched me? Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

During a trip through Belgium, I stopped at a gas station and asked for a pack of cigarettes in English (as it’s the only foreign language I speak). The cashier, with a decidedly unfriendly and impolite expression, reminded me that people speak French in Belgium (a language I regrettably don’t know). I apologized in English and said that it wasn’t an issue, and I’d try my luck at the next station. That was enough to tell me all I needed to know about Belgian hospitality.

    People are wonderful with open hearts.
    I like Romania.
    I never went there but watched everything about those living off grid.
    A lot of old people.
    How they manage to still work so hard at an old age.
    Unbelievable.
    Bless them.

    As a Romanian guy I laughed a lot..All their lives the Romanians admired western civilization and wanted to live like "the American dream" and now the Americans and other western European people began to come to find isolated places in the mountains to flee from the greed of capitalism. This is where corporate capitalism brought us.

      You forget Communism, caused their leading Bastards was always Capitalists.
      Today the Play the Democravy Game, the Power behind are always greedy Capitalists.
      We all getting fooled by different Parties which playing the Democracy Game, without to know what Democracy mean.
      We getting told that comes from Greec language.
      Demos = Folk
      Cratos = Govern
      But the old Greec Word Demos having a Total other meaning.
      When cooking ANIMAL fat to seperaten the Solid from the liquid Part appearing on the surface a Kind of Vaporating Water and dirt which is fished and thrown away, I call it Scum.

      make sure you protect your lands your values your traditions and dont let anyone to come and start making business out of you and turn it into a village first then a capitalistic venture into a city.. Look what happened to Bali and the uncontacted tribes of the amazon forests. They are all the puppets of western culture tourists who cannot do any introspection they keep going to places instead of going inside and learn to sit still and be happy wherever they are. tourism is the most stupid thing anyone can do.

I reckon this is what most of the rest of the world lost 😔😔 I must admit, it was silly of me but I really did not think there were places left like this in Europe, a place where you can't even use a car to get there. What's crazy is that I'm in London and pretty much match your story of the house and not knowing neighbours so I was actually about 3hrs ago looking for places in Bulgaria, thanks to you and this wonderful clip Romania is now on my list as well. The people def made me smile, so honest and open and smiling and you can feel its honest. Thanks again mate!!! Its a shame you could not stay over a night in that place, reckon you going to regret not doing that... ❤❤ BTW, I've subbed!!!

As for your questions regarding winter , we use wood for heating or electricity conversion.. i would imagine few extra pounds to have one of those heaters for winter time ..and let me tell you winter are not what they used to be.. if i had 50k i would move back. 3ha of land for 30k amazing deal for that lady
