I was here in Ushguli last week. There are actually quite a few tourists who pass through all summer. Lots of small restaurants, cafes, and guesthouses around to serve them. Many of the surrounding smaller villages are more remote but not as picturesque for videos like this. In any case, it still feels like a place from the past, still feels quite special.

Saying that the wheel hasn't been invented there is just ignorant. Dragging a sled works much, much better on those hillsides, with more control of the load going downhill and is not much more difficult going uphill. Work sleds are safer for the animals hauling them and for the people as well. Wheels are expensive and require more maintenance and a specialized wheelwright to make them.

Collective sharing is kind kf a norm and all the families help each other either to procure food or help wach other in difficult times. I took a great course at university by Kevin Tuite about the different ethnic groups in the Caucasus, their traditions and languages. This documentary is quite good in showing most aspects if not all of the life in those harsh regions. No wonder why there are more than 50 languages in that area of the world, people being surrounded by high terrains that they wouldn't dare crossing for no reasons, hence the richness of local cultures. All this like elsewhere is gradually being lost. A least the Svans seem to hold on for another while.
I had the privilege to patrol all the Kodori valley with UN for almost 2 years. Svanetians are a very proud people who try to keep their traditions alive. They love nature, God and they know about families and tradition, words that unfortunately are unknown for people like us who can't live without the mobile, electricity, internet, fast food, luxury cars and hotels, vacations, money. These people are proud and I hope that everyone who saw the video to have the chance to visit this place and see what is real life
Its only me or you also had the impression that the wife called Nani is really unhappy w her life in this village? she mentions many times she wants to take the kids and go out of that place for a better life 😢
When we city dwellers see places like Svanetti, we often idealize them, enchanted by their stark contrast to our daily urban surroundings. However, it's important to remember that the Svans face their own struggles. While their lifestyle may appear simple, it is anything but easy !

This is an example of a people that survive the trial and joys of living in our world, no different from all people's even in civilized/more technology oriented locales. How would the more technology people in America make do, if they had to exist, in this environment. I think many would not make it, they are too selfish/self-centered. They think they are entitled.
Beautiful people. Hollywood has nothing on these beautiful intelligent happy to be self sufficient. They are what we should be. Their men are strong and handsome. The women are feminine and strong. The women have grace and beauty. In their work and all aspects of daily living. Thank you for sharing this. So many things we don’t know about people. I love them!! Do they accept monetary donations?
I don’t think the doctor said they worship icons. Icons have no power. As Christians, we know icons have no power and they serve only as a reminder of God. God is the source of the power, not the icons.
yehh😂 every religion has no power, the main power lies within human and nature itself. I have seen every part of world worship some or other god. But the outcome of their worship is totally different even they worship same god. The difference is because they had or have leaders with different mentality, thats it.
I believe there is a heaven on the other side of the mountain. This is it, beautiful people, rich culture and an undying faith and peace beyond imaginable.
Life is beautiful there. You have everything you need and best of all family and loyal people around you. The fast paced way of life these days is full of so much decay. I live in the united states and drugs, violence, murder, depression, sex is everywhere and more than ever the younger generation is so disrespectful and selfish. A lot of people have no loyalty to anyone except for money. You really have a wonderful thing there. I would love to live in a strong, loving, loyal, Godly village such as yours. God bless all of you. I hope the best for your families and your way of life. Peace and Love 💕💕
You heard in the docu that alcohol consumption is high, there's murders and vendettas, I'm sure there's petty roberies of farms and domestic violence towards women and children as well. The vast majority of us living in cities never experience crime in our livetime. 50 years ago my rural family lived a similar life in a small village and they weren't crime free. There was the ocasional cattle thieves, girls were raped while going to river to do the laundry or garhering herbs, men killed each other in disputes and women and children were beaten. Yet in the appearance everything looked wholesome and sin-free. Don't judge things by the appearences in a docu.
I am totally convinced that in spite of the hard life their lives are a lot more productive and fulfilling than those of us who spend our time in the materialistic world .
Living as they do, you see that the children respect their parents, elders, and one another. They take pride in their ability to help one another. Though their life is hard, by modern standards, they are more robust and hardy than the average urban dweller. They seem to have an appreciation for life and family that is getting less apparent in Western societies as technology abounds.

@@faze4hit You love everything.
Liked & subscribed (there's nothing simple about leading a simple life; it probably isn't easy at all, yet I feel intensely happy after having watched this documentary and the svans' deeply rooted MEANING of their apparently simple lives: It makes everyone wish everybody else in the world hope for a better future -amen).
When I first started watching, I thought where do they get their wood?? Makes me think of Easter Island - they better start planting trees!
My thought too.
That requires work. These men can't fix a gate or tie a rope properly. They are misbehaving. Planting a tree - they'd have the woman do that.
They've continue to strip the mountainside. They've already obliterated one species of trees
@@shirleyfrancis4515strip mining put the phone in your hand that you complain on. These people have lived like this for centuries and have made less impact on the land.

I visited Ushguli as a climber....Looking forward to go back some day and meet the great friends I made there!
Beautiful people, beautiful life style, protect it at all costs.
Thank you for making this imoressive film, which is showing the daily life and work needed to be done! Reminds me of the old farm society which once existed in Nordic too. So nice to see the strong bindings between people and their attitude to forefathers and.-mothers, the celebrations and offerings, and farewell celebration when young people go away to study. Greetings from Norway.
These people shown in this video are so attractive. Beautiful girls and women and handsome men with smile lines rather than frown lines on their faces. Yes, they could get makeup and pretty clothes. But their modesty and lack of competitive envy between the villagers is awesome. I envy this simple life.❤️❤️❤️
I am sure at one point the Svanetis had beautiful traditional clothes. It seems it has gone long ago, maybe at the soviet times. It shows how important it is to hold on to your traditions! Wonderful people!
What a wonderful documentary, thank you so much.
Rich in old county culture & heritage , thank you for sharing this wonderful video 🙂
Thank you for watching! I’m sure you didn’t forget to give a thumbs up! There’s plenty more where that came from, so don’t forget to subscribe 🤗
Amazingly Magnificent! Thank you for sharing this video. To live free & in harmony with nature. A little Green Technology will assist in lighting, heating, cooking, power grid for basic white goods to enhance their way of life & preserve their limited trees. I will write it on my bucket list to visit such a beautiful & with majestic mountains in that place a great contrast with its 4 seasons compared to our place. May The Almighty God Bless these humble, peaceful, hard working & industrious people. I can relate to the hard work & reliance of these people when I see our people of Kambaramba villages in Keram, Sepik River and our people in Nubia in Madang Province. Greetings from Papua New Guinea.
That was an amazing tale of history and perseverance, thank you for sharing their story. Seems as though they are doing something right
I enjoyed this very much. Thank you.
In many ways this is a wonderful way of life but also harsh and hard.
I'm surprised they don't dry the cow dung to supplement the wood from the rapidly disappearing trees, as well as plant replacement trees.

Such a hard way of life but sooooo beautiful how blessed you are, I love the family support and love and community az one I think that is awesome what a wonderful way of life
God bless these amazing and wonderful people.
These people live in real reality. I envy them
What a beautiful people and way of life.
These people are proud and I hope that everyone who saw the video to have the chance to visit this place and see what is real life
Wonderful documentary. Beautiful people. Enviable life.
I hope they are planting more trees!!😮
Birch trees grow as quick as you can blink. I’ve got some in my yard and they’re terrible!
What a beautiful place 😍 I would love to visit there one day.
Big up for Svaneti and Georgia 🇬🇪🇬🇪 !! Any Georgians in here ??
These people are living the dream life, how I'd love to see this country❤ 💗❤️
Its only me or you also had the impression that the wife called Nani is really unhappy w her life in this village? she mentions many times she wants to take the kids and go out of that place for a better life 😢
When we city dwellers see places like Svanetti, we often idealize them, enchanted by their stark contrast to our daily urban surroundings. However, it's important to remember that the Svans face their own struggles. While their lifestyle may appear simple, it is anything but easy !
Wow btw

I like this life. Simple but free from toxic and pollution and crowd
Stone boats, sleds, are so practical . I use one here on my ranch . Living this way is hard work and I prefer this lifestyle. Still go to farmers market with my Handspun yarns at 70 weekly .
Amazing !! Hard work is the key to a healthy and dignified life 💪💪💪
As someone who has always wished to escape 21st Century civilization, I envy these people.
What a lovely documentary... old traditions cultures...love drinking alcohol left for the dead. I did however saw a half bottle of Coca-Cola at one of the graves?? Who drank half off the Coca-Cola?? It was time well spent to watch this documentary . God bless the citizens of this remote village
Such beautiful people
Thank you for this beautiful documentary ❤❤❤
This is an example of a people that survive the trial and joys of living in our world, no different from all people's even in civilized/more technology oriented locales. How would the more technology people in America make do, if they had to exist, in this environment. I think many would not make it, they are too selfish/self-centered. They think they are entitled.
Probably not though. Their religious delusions and lack of replanting trees are a catastrophic recipe.
The beauty of their culture. This is in deed their identity. Much love from Kenya❤❤❤❤
There is a reason that dogsleds don’t have wheels, but runners! Spreading the load makes sense in certain terrain.
Thank you very much for such beautiful video.
Good people and honest people
I have a great grandmother that was from Georgia
What a poor diet. Why ?
Really enjoyed this. Lovely place and people.
I am totally convinced that in spite of the hard life their lives are a lot more productive and fulfilling than those of us who spend our time in the materialistic world .
Gosh, what a story. I wish them well.👍👍
Living as they do, you see that the children respect their parents, elders, and one another. They take pride in their ability to help one another. Though their life is hard, by modern standards, they are more robust and hardy than the average urban dweller. They seem to have an appreciation for life and family that is getting less apparent in Western societies as technology abounds.
Beautiful life beautiful traditions..so much love….i love it…
Best insights about life in that part of the world.here in Africa is quite different in terms of weather but in terms of believe s and culture we are both strong in retaining way of life.
Africa ? No comparison.

Mestia, one of tbe most beautiful places on Earth. Been there 10 years ago.
When my children 6 sons and 1 daughter were young at home I canned no less than 2,000 jars of food each year. Looking at that small canning supply she has I do not know how it can feed a family for 6 months! It would not be enougj for 1 person for the long winter. 😢
You saw a part of their winter supplies, not all of it.
They seem well fed and healthy, except for the iodine part.
