Dan from the Salty Sea (also on RUclips) has been working through a really great breakdown of the changes in the PDFs. The general takeaway is that mid-range fighters (Liberators, Gutrippas, etc.) have gotten a lot cheaper, Leaders and cavalry are punchier but often more expensive. I think they are trying to allow most warbands to field more fighters, so the warbands that can field swarms of chaff don't have such an advantage at completing the mission.
Yes, Dan does great work. Flyers and high movers often took a nerf. Ranged weapons often took a nerf. He really highlights how specific factions have changed

Super impressive they've just opted to give it to us for free!! Also hoping for "Bladeborn"/Underworlds stats, even if just in PDF. Thanks for the vid - great content as ever! 🙌🤘
So far the changes seem to be well thought out, and have really opened up the warbands I've reviewed so far. Each warband has one to two ouch losses from changes, but 3 to 4 good changes to other units that now I can use in my setup. Kharadron Overlords for instance, repeater cannon went from 6 shots to 3. Ouch. I'll miss those fistful of dice, but the point cost of most Grundstock Thunderers have come down making them easier to put into the 1000 team. Chaff even got a balance on the op races getting point increases, and the weaker chaff getting point reductions. Excited to play this weekend with the new stat blocks.
This is excellent news and it is exactly what I wanted to happen for kill team. The lists should be digital, versioned and free. This way they can rebalance continuously without additional cost for us.
I'm hoping that the Underworlds warbands will just get their own PDF file at this point. Although it's possible that the update for them will not be available as a PDF but will be in the physical copy of the compendium. All I know is that I've got multiple warbands without updated stats/points.
This is a BIG DEAL. If we are going to end up having to pay for those rules GW has made a huge mistake - including from a business perspective as Warcry is huge gateway to get people into the main game where GW makes the big bucks.

I only play the Warcry specific warbands with the exception of Flesh Eater Courts. Balance is less of an issue then. Also isn't it a good thing that we don't have to pick up some £30 book just to get these points tweaks?
It's wild that they sent the physical compendiums to reviewers as well, was clearly a last second scrapping. Took a hard look at Beasts of Chaos and I would say about a third of them did not change. Ungor raiders got more expensive but all the basic leaders (bray-shaman, gouge-horn) are cheaper. I had to make some very small tweaks to my four beastman lists, but nothing significant. What seems to be missing so far are the Bladeborn warbands; these were included in the Agents of Chaos book, but I would expect they need some balancing as well. Maybe they'll show up in the final version of the compendium.
I still don't see the Underworlds models anywhere in the PDFs. Since a lot of them were on last call in the GW store recently, they may have always intended the Tome of Champions to be the models' last hurrah. I special ordered quite a few so I'm pretty disappointed about that. Still excited for the new box though. Warcry is lookin' pretty good in my book.
Where there any updates to the first Warcry bands, eg Iron Golems, Untamed Beasts, Cypher Lords? Haven't seen any updates on them in the free PDFs. Were there updates since release and if yes, where could I find them? Any help here?
As far as releases, I wouldn't be surprised if this follows the Kill Team release schedule. That would mean we wouldn't get the individual teams and rules released separately until Q4 when a new Warcry box comes out.
War Cry was suffering quite a lot from "too many rulebooks bloat", kind of like how Necromunda is heading these days. KT2018 had the issue, where books didn't work together. So stripping things back and tidying it up from what they've learned, is I guess no bad thing. And after the debacle of the KT2019 Annual and the soulless KT Compendium, having War Cry's compendium factions be free is actually kind of refreshing,
Free rules makes the hurting of recent ishly getting into the game and buying 6 total books plus a few WD issues not maybe so hurty. Honestly id be fine with the compendium just being a 2023 Champions book.
The pdfs are still showing imbalances so I'm assuming that the compendium has been delayed for last minute changes before printing. This is a great move on GW's half, but a player shouldn't have to expect to pay £65 in softback rulebooks( core rules & compendium ) to play a good skirmish game in the first place. Warcry's rule book could have at least included updated rules for the game-specific chaos cult warbands, monsters and beasts. This obviously achieves the same thing, but if the compendium were to be printed now, we'd be looking at another £65 for two softbacks instead of one at £32.50, for new players. In comparison, Osprey's Frostgrave is a single, self contained hard back at £25.
Do I understand it correctly, that the underworld bands stats from Tome of champions 2021 are outdated now? So we can't use it anymore with the new stats from the compebdium?
They should of just came out and made it look like a “help the community grow”. Because of these rule PDFs I will now be buying the new glue box and trying this game.
Here's something a little f up that I randomly discovered: the italian version of Kill Team Nachmund is available in pdf download on warhammer community. The full book, in PDF, for free. Only the Italian ones looks like, that is not available in italian printed out, only in english. Chalnath and Octarius are not available for download, but up for sell in the online store in Italian. They were not able to print the italian version so... they gave it out for free... secretly? GW are some real weirdos :D By the way, imho, I just started Kill Team and I don't like these books with some mission and the rules for just 2 teams, they lack content. I would like the rules for the teams to be available for free, and the books sold with the terrains as part of a Killzone -> Killzone Octarius should include the Octarius book for example.
After picking up some of the Underworlds warbands on last chance to buy exclusively for use in Warcry I'm a tad miffed that they didn't make the jump to the new edition (which was announced long after the last chance to buy sale, but before my order actually arrived). Looks like they only want to have rules for currently purchasable models as the bat swarm has also disappeared from the Death thralls list. However still looking forward to this new edition.
I'm not sure the point changes have forced me to change any of my lists. I appreciate that all the Shadowstalkers move 6 now. But, I have some questions about the changes to Overlords. I think the new stats for the volley gun make it pointless. I don't get why they decreased the range of the skyhook (range 20 gave it a good niche I thought). I worry giving the fumigator 4 shots is too strong, even at 1/4 damage (it use to be 2/4); that's 5-6 shots with FFP. I like the changes to the Khemist, captain, the mortar and the aethercannon make me want to try those units now. But, I'm still waiting for the Admiral to do what his model suggests he can - he is a bit better, but that is a huge power hammer, and a massive suit of armour. I haven't looked over the skaven changes yet. But I did noticed that the arch-warlock still has no range attack, despite having a small cannon strapped to his wrist. But my son play Iron Golems and the changes there look good. They felt a bit like clay golems before.
I appreciate PDFs, I really do, especially with the limited space I have but damnit, I really prefer a physical book in my hands when all is said and done.
This is how it always should of been in the first place - i don't care why its happened, all i know is that this should be the freaking norm. As i previously said in one of your earlier videos, remember when AOS had free rules/warscrolls and whatever happened to that? I wasn't going to get Heart of ghur because of the absurd price rise......But Now i have....They earned my money this time, hopefully they learn from this n keep it up. Also my slayers are very happy with the changes!
I dont think I can hit 1000pts exactly anymore with FEC. Archregent, Crypt Infernal Courtier, Crypt Haunter, 4 Ghouls used to be exactly 1000pts it's now 955 so I can't squeeze another Ghoul in there. Upgrading the Haunter to a Courtier lands me on 980. It seems like I'm always either 980 or 1005 whichever way I split it.
wait... are you COMPLAINING that the compendium is free on a PDF? wasn't one of your primary beefs with the kill team compendium that it was too expensive?
I print sheets of the kill team and put together army books that are bound and invlude a cheat sheat rules reference on the inside cover. It makes it way easier to play. Ill be doing the same here
I mean.... GW gives out the rules for free here, so I can't complain. I guess they want the game to get more traction. I'd say that Kill Team and 40K are more popular than Warcry and AoS, so they charge you more often. I mean you get all the profiles and special rules for AoS for free in the app. You don't have to buy the battletomes at all.
I recall a rumor that a Death Guard shipment had been lost at sea, so it's certainly not unprecedented, in theory. (Insert memes here about buying up some scuba gear and claiming rights of salvage for ten thousand dollars worth of plastic.)
This was so confusing to watch at first. I am just getting into WarCry and found these videos but I also just bought the Heart of Ghur box and mine came with the compendium...
I do like playing with the cards though. But, if they release new ones, they will probably be too expensive. I'm kind of hoping they will relase an order set, a choas set, etc. and each one will be like 20 bucks.
The Best of Best! Plus don't forget the free minis to come for everyone month to month! This is the best marketing strategy i see in a long time, 'cause it open the big gates to play Warcry for all minis keepers of GW... if you hace AoS, Underworlds, Necromunda, SylverTower, Quest, OldFashion Warhammer Fantasy, Mordheim.. it's ok. Take your old minis, brings a chair and play Warcry 2.0! Cheers GW! PD: One Page Rules, In Your Face!

Regardless of this free PDF stuff, the question is was this new Warcry rules change really necessary for game rebalancing ? was the old game really so broken ? really ? Also my poor cards I bought for the different Warcry bands all redundant but if it's a stats changes that aint too bad just create a sticker to overlay the old stats with a clear plastic card sleeve. I did that for the Blood Bowl Elf Union cards.
I hope the 2.0 Core Rules aren't in the same boat as the Compendium. Seems likely they are. Re: $5 - You and Sam should plead your case to Vince to decide who owes who. That would be a top notch collab video. 🤓
Makes me super glad I never bought the Warcry Aliance books. GW making these free will actually get me to test out the new stats. I wasn't really interested in buying the new box.
Always thought it was dumb to charge for rules.... Sure I get there are people who love the hardbound books with lore and stuff and I think they should provide that as well - but for a game based on a game with "free rules" it seems dumb not to do the same. This is supposed to be the "gateway drug" for the main AOS game which means the newbie playing Warcry generally are focused on getting models and not paying a premium for paper. With the pace that GW is now changing rules with all their games now - its time for them to give up the idea of making people pay for every iteration or "season" of rules. Hope they are understanding that. The game is just part of a hobby - and a bigger part of that hobby is model assembly and painting (for me at least). Please GW stay focused on model sales and not paper sales.

I hope they throw all the new stats into an app with an easy sort/search function
And after the debacle of the KT2019 Annual and the soulless KT Compendium, having War Cry's compendium factions be free is actually kind of refreshing,
Necromunda is a sandbox. You pick and chose the rules you use. It’s an RPG wargame and nothing else
Free rules makes the hurting of recent ishly getting into the game and buying 6 total books plus a few WD issues not maybe so hurty. Honestly id be fine with the compendium just being a 2023 Champions book.
Wow, after this I’m actually interested in Warcry! I just didn’t want to have to buy 4 books.
Yeah… the underworld stats are not in these Grand Alliance PDFs.
They were not able to print the italian version so... they gave it out for free... secretly? GW are some real weirdos :D
By the way, imho, I just started Kill Team and I don't like these books with some mission and the rules for just 2 teams, they lack content. I would like the rules for the teams to be available for free, and the books sold with the terrains as part of a Killzone -> Killzone Octarius should include the Octarius book for example.
GW really want us to learn Italian?
After picking up some of the Underworlds warbands on last chance to buy exclusively for use in Warcry I'm a tad miffed that they didn't make the jump to the new edition (which was announced long after the last chance to buy sale, but before my order actually arrived). Looks like they only want to have rules for currently purchasable models as the bat swarm has also disappeared from the Death thralls list. However still looking forward to this new edition.
The Corvus cabal only had point changes and one more attack on the cavalier with familiar. Their abilities slightly changed as well but yeah
I'm definitely tempted to jump into Warcry now and I'm hoping to convince my mate XD
Me too only the updating cycle of GW is 12-24 months so that is a bt to short for me....
Appreciate the insight! Have fun and don’t get into too much trouble!!
I would have had no idea this came out if I didn’t see this video. Thanks!
Seems like this should be the norm for all of their games. I would have really liked to have a free compendium for Kill Team.
It seems like I'm always either 980 or 1005 whichever way I split it.
wait... are you COMPLAINING that the compendium is free on a PDF? wasn't one of your primary beefs with the kill team compendium that it was too expensive?
the free digital update is what is keeping me interested in war cry at all.
why not an app? Honestly, this is just sad that a multi million pound company can make a simple app in a timely manner...
I print sheets of the kill team and put together army books that are bound and invlude a cheat sheat rules reference on the inside cover. It makes it way easier to play. Ill be doing the same here
I'm fine with this. I can start building lists now.
Thanks! I am sitting here putting together dark oath savagers.
Uncle WarCry ♥️
And there are even page numbers on those pdfs… so confusing, something happened
Can you please do a 2022 update to the cheapest way to get in to the warcry warbands?
This was so confusing to watch at first. I am just getting into WarCry and found these videos but I also just bought the Heart of Ghur box and mine came with the compendium...
I do like playing with the cards though. But, if they release new ones, they will probably be too expensive. I'm kind of hoping they will relase an order set, a choas set, etc. and each one will be like 20 bucks.
The AOS models being put into Warcry bent the game from my experience. The warcry warbands seemed at a huge disadvantage.
Uhm... one Page rules doesn't care where you get minis from... so... what?
@@KrullMaestaren The most importan is about the customers, how has a lot of warcry old books, and now don't need to rebuy all the books to following play the close same game. Thats is the most importantan for me about all of those!
I JUST learned a week or two ago that you could use underworlds models in warcry... will be some classic GW if you already can't use them, haha.
The one aggravating thing about this change is that all my nice cards are now obsolete.
Only warcry, what made you stop playing Kill Team? Any opinion or thoughts on the new box?
I mainly just don’t like the new Kill Team rules, and especially the new list building. Thanks for watching!
First Blood 2 spooked em.
Eh, but Warcry doesn't look bad. I'll be trying it this weekend.
I wonder if GW need to start printing copies to order on a local level rather than low cost mass printing in China.
Won't lie I was looking forward to the physical book, but I'll take some free pdfs
I hope the 2.0 Core Rules aren't in the same boat as the Compendium. Seems likely they are.
Re: $5 - You and Sam should plead your case to Vince to decide who owes who. That would be a top notch collab video. 🤓
My Khorne mortals got an extra body and some strength buffs
Makes me super glad I never bought the Warcry Aliance books.
GW making these free will actually get me to test out the new stats.
I wasn't really interested in buying the new box.
Just downloaded it last week I got chaos stat cards from white drawf from june
Wondering, too. DriveThru had it in his Warcry review.
"The Heart of Grrbox" is my nerd metal band.
I’m pleasantly surprised.
My guess is the annual report had something to do with this.
Is GW finally moving into the future? Probably not.
Not paying for a compendium update equals more money for minis!
