I fly Southwest, I've been very lucky that they help pull my batteries, fold up the chair and put the heavy duty protective cover over my chair to keep it from getting ruined in the belly of the plane. I always tip well for their assistance ❤❤❤

Thank you for representing us disabled people never would I thought battery wheelchairs were able to it’s always nice when they are polite and visa versa you are very polite I have to say not all disabilities are visible and you all represent that

you guys are great, this is how hard is to travel as a disabled person. I dont have one of those things since I use a walker but man traveling takes all the energy. one thing I most say, you were teaching people how to be polite and calm while traveling. those people were doing their job and had to check everything that for some people it may feel like a lot but is not. thank you very much, keep the great job.

Thank you for this video. I am from Central Europe and all your information is of great value to me. I ordered my first IATA certified carbon electric wheelchair yesterday. (with 10Ah lithium-Ion batery and weight 14,5kg) It opens up possibilities I never dreamed of before. your video is just great! Thanks again. BTW I am very pleasantly surprised how nice and helpful all the AA staff are. This is also one of the things that will make traveling easier. Once again, I confirmed how supportive and considerate the Americans are. God bless you and the whole nation too.
Thank you for watching the video and commenting and thanks for sharing too! We appreciate the support.
Great video. I'm flying for the first time (since my bicycle accident in 2010, C5/6 quad) in a few days but with a power chair. Now I know what to expect when I get to the TSA checkpoint.
Awesome! We also have a blog post you can check out: www.mobilityscootersdirect.com/blog/mobility-scooters/traveling-on-an-airplane-with-a-mobility-scooter/

Thank you for sharing this. I’m in a wheelchair and I wasn’t sure how convenient it’d be for me to fly.

This was great, I'm a double amputee and this is a very recent condition so my transitions are not the easiest in the world. I fly out in December to go on a cruise and I have called and set up everything (I hope) with Jet Blue. they have my battery size and all the necessary digits for my chair. I feel really good about traveling and this is my second cruise handicapped and my first flight!!! Fingers crossed. Thanks again for all of the helpful information. I'm subscribed and following!!

I couldnt see if you have to remove the battery and take it on as a carry on?
Hi Kathy, I’d be interested in knowing how you made out. I really want to go on a cruise but reluctant because of my wheelchair. I usually fly jet blue but I haven’t been anywhere since 2019. I was on a walker then. I’d love to hear about where you went how the cruise line accommodated you, how long the flights was and how that went.
Thank you for sharing this video with me and others to show us what will happen when you get to the airport with a mobility chair
You are very welcome. Any video idea you may have? Share with us!

How does a truly disabled person get his/her butt from the mobility chair after check-in, into an actual airplane seat? Are there 3 big humans standing by to lift and hoist the person into the plane and into the seat?
My first flight with a wheelchair coming up soon, this was very helpful as I'm shopping around for the right one and I didn't know what to expect 👍
Sweet! Thanks for watching our video and commenting! We appreciate the support. Have a safe trip!
Excellent video and helpful information but if I had to go through all this just to get on a damn plane to go anywhere I think Hertz would be getting my business and not the airlines nor would I even enter an airport. If for some reason I actually had to fly (commercial) I would just crawl (no joke) through the TSA screening area and onto the plane. I am sure that would get their attention and YES it would all be in a video for the public and government types to see. There truly should be a more streamlined process for disabled travelers to fly. Being separated from my power chair when I am up and about is serious business for me.
Agreed, but it is what it is for now... We just wanted to educate people of what the process is like, good or bad.
You must use a folding wheelchair, too. My motorized chair does not fold, and renting a vehicle to accommodate it costs more than renting a tiny apartment for a month pretty much anywhere. I have my own van, but it's becoming unreliable and it will take ne a while to be able to afford to replace it, but traveling far would be very scary. I used to LOVE flying but haven't for so many years now, it breaks my heart.
I always wondered what it takes to fly with a wheelchair. Thanks for the stream.
Glad you like it! Thanks for stopping by!

After watching you maneuver that new wheelchair it makes me realize how old and worn out mine is. My controller is so all over the place I run into everything 😂
Thanks for watching and commenting Rose! You probably need to get a new one then!
Just a thought, you may still want to check with your airline. I fly Delta, and every time I travel I am supposed to call them and give them the specs on my chair. They refuse to store it because of HIPAA. I despise having to do this as it's usually 30-40 minutes on hold and I am brain dead from the music by the time somebody answers :D also last time I traveled my info didn't make it into the computer somehow and I had to deal with everything all over again when I tried to check in. I do worry a bit everytime I check my chair because of course you hear of damage too often...
Indeed! While we try to be as informative as possible, we still recommend making your own research and contacting your airlines to ensure a hassle free travel. Thanks for watching our video and commenting! We appreciate the support.

So if I fly with this chair I have to go through explaining all this to them? I’m feeling nervous as I fly in a few months
Not all airports and airlines are the same. Just make sure you know the voltage and amp hours of your battery and you'll be fine. All batteries have that information on a label.
am in the UK and this video is great infomation no-one has made a video like this here.. but i so wish you had taken your hats off it is kinda distracting watching you guys
Sorry about the hat. Thanks for watching our video and commenting!
i am a UK person, using a powered wheelchair and the process is exactly the same
I need one of these power wheelchairs so traveling would be so much easier. I am just not sure which one is the best option for me. In most cases getting through TSA is like this unless you come across an agent that wants to show he is in charge and wants to make your life more miserable then it all ready is. Even with precheck flying first class my last trip tsa agent made me take off shoes belt sweater because I had a tee shirt under it. I asked for a supervisor and he just got more aggressive and his supervisor never showed up.

Chargers: what type of chargers are required? Many countries are not 110v. Are there chargers with dual adapters?
@williamdurand3264 It depends on which country you are trying to visit. You will need a converter for 220v to 110v when an outlet is 110v. Especially when you travel to a different country, it's best to be aware of the outlet voltage and have your voltage converter handy. There are a lot of voltage converters you can choose from online nowadays or check your local hardware store so you won't have a hard time finding one. Thanks for watching our video and commenting! We appreciate the support.

We'll try to upload one if we had a chance to! Thanks for watching our video and commenting! We appreciate the support.
Thank you for doing this video. You’ve given me the confidence that I can still travel while using my power chair. What type of camera are you using on the chair?
That's a trade secret! Haha. Thanks for watching and commenting. We really appreciate the support.
Thanks my wife uses a electric chair which previously had a wet cell battery and had no issues getting through airports but now it’s being updated with a lithium ion battery so I’m anxious when we go on holidays in September,I might email the airline.also do you need to place the lithium battery in a fireproof bag like the ones drone batteries go in ?
@piee683 You can get the bag for additional safety. Depending on your airlines recommendation, and if the battery is removable, you'll need to carry it with you on the plane.
Really good video and that looks like a great chair for traveling but how would it work for those of us with full size PWC? Is it even possible to bring a 300+ pound chair on a flight?
As long as it is a class 2 medical device, they have to accept it. You can learn more about it here on our blog post: www.mobilityscootersdirect.com/blog/mobility-scooters/traveling-on-an-airplane-with-a-mobility-scooter/

@@MobilityDirect Thank you for the information.
Do you recommend bringing extra batteries on international flights?
@realstreetwearcompany3598 We do. It's always best to bring extra batteries, we do it too. Especially to places we've never been to before and if you're planning to travel a lot using your mobility device.
@@MobilityDirect thanks for the info
Great video, I'm traveling for 1st time and wondering if the specification printed on the battery is enough to satisfy TSA/FAA, or am I supposed to have some formal battery spec sheet indicating FAA approval? The printed specs on the battery do fall within allowable rules.
@mweller9949 You must identify the watt-hours and ensure they are less than 300 watt-hours. You can calculate the watt-hours by multiplying the voltage and capacity of the battery (ex. 12v12ah = 144 watt-hours). Travel-friendly scooters with lithium batteries will come with a specification sheet to show the airline that it is under 300 watt-hours and FAA-compliant. Thanks for watching and commenting. We appreciate the support!
Awesome video
Thank you so much @bcrouse1! We appreciate the support!
@@MobilityDirect you will always have it
what is not being told is that there are times acces elevators are not working. each airline has different policy about power chair. one may let you take it all the way to the door of the plane. others wont. others will let you in. remove the battery yourself and put in your bag and take it to the cabin.
That's right. That is why we also recommend doing your own research about it along with contacting your airlines to ensure a hassle free trip. We try to be as informative as possible but every experience can be unique. Thanks for watching our video and commenting! We appreciate the support!
My husband will be in one of these on our next trip and this us very helpful. He won’t get as frustrated if he knows what to expect.
Awesome, glad you found our video and hopefully you are subscribed! :) Safe travels Connie!
Thank you for doing this tutorial. I'll be flying with my Jazzy Carbon for the first time at the end of the month, and this was a very good resource. I knew that I'll have to remove the battery before getting on the plane, but I wouldn't have thought to also remove the joystick. Good to know!
One question: on the TSA website, it says "Lithium ion batteries must be removed from this type of mobility device and *battery terminals protected from short circuit*." What is the best way to protect the battery terminals? Or is it even necessary with this chair?
Thanks again for the wonderful video!
You don't need to worry about it on this chair but if you want to, you can try covering them yourself. Thanks for watching our video and commenting! We appreciate the support.
Fantastic and very educational video. I was just wondering why were you not preloaded as a wheelchair user?
We made this video in-house for educational purposes. We worked with what we had available to us. Hope you enjoyed.
Since I've been in my chair, I've been afraid to fly. This is helpful. My chair is large, doesn't fold or disassemble. I also don't know about the battery removal. What about the charger, can't go anywhere without that? I was confused, did they let you carry the battery/ies and joystick on with you? I think it would have been more helpful with an actual person that can't just walk away from their chair.
Lithium batteries needs to be removed and carried on the plane with you. You can choose to speak with the gate attendant and let them know you are traveling with a disability/assistive device. They'll also be able to give you necessary assistance. Aside from this video, we also have a blog on this link that can give you more information: www.mobilityscootersdirect.com/blog/mobility-scooters/traveling-on-an-airplane-with-a-mobility-scooter/
American Airlines rocks,, i took my Jazzy Carbon to Bogota Colombia in May,, it was a breeze, one thing you did not mention is they want the battery in a ziplock or pretty much any leakproof bag to go in the cabin of the plane,, also call the American airlines assistance number before you travel and they will register you wheel chair also can move your seats closer to the front of the plane even if it did not look like any were available, and they will make sure you get to your next gate and even through customs if you need it
Awesome! Thanks for sharing your experience with us and for stopping by our RUclips channel. We appreciate the support!

This is a complete video covering all issues a disabled person with a power wheelchair would face and offers solution and preparation for hazzle free flight. I took a wheelchair with 337KWh and was denied to take it unless I remove the PS and use it as a manual WC. The Swiss Air was very strict and I was not aware of that limit. Many people who travel with the their own power WC must read watch this video.

@@MobilityDirect When I took a flight in SwissAir, the lithium battery of collapsible wheelchair had a power 337kWh. It was not allowed. It was said that maximum power of lithium battery allowed is 300kWh. I wonder if this is the standard for all International Airlines and is the same for the flights to United States. I have to travel a few months later to USA. Hence this doubt is in my mind. Please clarify. I am living in India and my mobility is limited and I need to travel with Wheelchair.

Is it Medicare and Medicaid accepted as well as is there a basket that I can place on it to do shopping and it won't tip over and can it go up a wheelchair ramp can go up a ramp on a bus I have often tried to go up ramps and if they too steep I've had chairs have difficult climbing up the ramps

As a disabled women I give you a thumbs up, It's hard to find appreciation for companies who are so kind to give away a mobility aid for those in need. Keep doing funny RUclips shorts and advice on how to travel with the mobility AIDS: )
Thanks for this video! Quick question: when booking a flight ticket, should we call the airline company and let them know that we are flying with an electric wheelchair or is it like buying a regular ticket as others without wheelchairs?
You should call, just in case there are any unique restrictions, all airlines are different, especially international ones.
I live in the US and have experience with all three major airlines. You can buy a regular ticket and be sure to show up to the airport a bit earlier than usual. Go directly to your check-in counter (I usually go ahead and check in online anyway but answer yes to "unusual items" gets me the "see agent" note). There is paperwork to fill out. Usually asking for dimensions, size, weight, & type of wheelchair; type of batteries; detachable items; & damages.
They'll ask you if you're taking your chair to the gate (I'm assuming you can check it there) & if you need any assistance to the gate and/or to your seat on the plane (they have aisle chairs to get you to where you're sitting, if needed). When I get to the gate, maybe 20 mins before boarding when there's a lull, I'll roll up to the gate agent & introduce myself & ask if there's anything I need to do or know. That way they know I'm there and if they missed any procedure at the first counter, it's squared away there. After that, I do just what he's done in the video & wheel down to the plane, then walk with my cane onto the plane from the jet bridge to my seat (full disclosure, I'm also almost always in 1A) but I do request assistance with getting my 2 batteries & cushion onboard and stowed. I always have a backpack which is where I store my joystick. It's all not an easy tow for me.
More often than not, even though I don't request them, there's always an airlines wheelchair and assistor waiting on the jetbridge. I'm assuming that's on the off chance that they've damaged my chair and I won't be stranded on the plane.
The good news is there's usually a dedicated check in counter, line to get your ID checked at security, & first boarding opportunity. Everyone is very helpful, friendly, & knowledgeable (some airline(s) friendlier than others, lol), so don't be afraid to ask questions. Communication is key! The drawback is you will more than likely be last-ish off the plane, as they have to bring your chair back up to the jet bridge. So be mindful if you have a layover that you're allowing enough time for that & your mandatory restroom break & getting to your next gate. Most people say to try and avoid layovers to limit the risk of an incident (mostly involving your chair) derailing your trip in the wrong city. But I haven't had any issues yet. 😊
@@notorioustori Thanks a lot for sharing your experience!
I want to see how it is done for someone who is unable to walk on the plane and needs assistance. I think it will be helpful to those who need assistance
@@notorioustoriThis was very helpfull. Thank you.

What if you can't transfer from wheelchair to seat?
You can let the airport personnel know and they will and should help you in transferring to your seat. Thanks for watching our video and commenting!
Are you leaving battery in chair. I travel with electric wheel chair and am forced to remove battery from chair by airport
@GaryRichardson-z6w Lithium batteries are required to be carried with you on the plane. We have a blog post about this that can give you additional information:

I'm surprised you did not call a Mobility taxi Toyota Sienna where you could just roll the chair into the back, will the pride mobility chair roll into the back of the taxi like my manual chair does
Hello and thanks for your comment. I'm not sure about the question, but I imagine that most taxis that can accommodate wheelchairs will have a wide enough vehicle to support various wheelchair types. This Pride Mobility wheelchair has a pretty common width and my guess is that it will fit.
Which air line allow to traveling with power wheelchair
Most airlines will allow your power wheelchair but there are precautions necessary for the batteries. We recommend reaching out to your airlines first before booking your flight. Thanks for watching our video and commenting. Don't forget to subscribe for a chance to win a free mobility scooter.
Thanks
i have used many airlines and none have refused but it must have an airline approved lithium battery, that can be removed and taken on board
I haven't flown for many years, had no idea the pat down process was so extensive. Doesn't seem like they should need to run their hands over one area more than a couple times. Looked like they did this 5-8 times, feels excessive to me. Also the way they had you tip to the side, lifting up, not everyone in a wheelchair can actually do this. I haven't even seen the whole video yet, and I'm starting to doubt I'll ever fly again.
That is true. But if asked, assistance should be provided to you. It's best to reach out to your airlines first before making the trip to avoid hiccups during your trip. Thanks for watching and commenting. We appreciate the support!
Security is security.
Again how will I know if I win

I watched luggage handlers threw and break my buggy , I was so gutted , had to use spending money on buying a new buggy , I was a mom with 6 kids no partner came with me , our first holiday. Then had a miscarriage on holiday and told not to mention I was carrying a dead baby on aeroplane going home . The scan said no heart beat after loosing blood .
My health is putting me into a electric wheelchair soon , at least I have my ♿️permit for my car for now…
Thanks for doing this video , I’m hoping to fly to southern Florida to visit my daughter & family someday, this video gave me some confidence now .. thanks!!!
So you removed battery & joy stick and kept them on you during flight???
I’ll have to learn removing them once I buy electric chair .. how much $$$ for your carbon chair??? Or non carbon fiber chair??? Just a simple chair will do as well.
Can you add a cane holder to it as an option???
I just realized watching this video …I can’t walk any distance of any airport with my broken titanium steel parts back anymore …
I did subscribe & like because at 66yrs old , life & health gets really fun & interesting 😂

What happen if disabled person can't walk?, not the way you did!
Then, they would provide you a special chair to get on the airbus, as outlined in the video.
i use a powered chair to the plane door and dont get out of the chair thro security etc., ....... you must always book accessible help with each airline and part of that is telling them whether you can walk when on the plane,.... if you cant, they will help you transfer to your chair using an aisle wheelchair
I’ll bet the floors in that airport cost a fortune.
Probably! Haha. Thanks for watching our video and commenting! We appreciate the support.

@@jms60 just because you can stand for a short time don’t mean you don’t need a wheelchair!
@@MobilityDirect Sure is with no legs my was blow up in ARMY
@@antonyjharper31 I agree with you because I'm one of those people. I can stand for several minutes, and can walk a very short distance, but yet I do need my mobility chair.
The 360 video is garbage. The content was good though.
You're probably just not understanding how a 360 video works. Most people that say bad things about the 360 videos simply don't realize how to use the controls (on their smartphone or PC ) to change the viewing angle of the camera.
Thanks for your video greatly appreciated disabled people access to travelling on airports 🛫 🛬 and aeroplanes
We're glad you enjoyed it :)
👍is quiet airport. but nice
It sure is, and one of the smallest commercial airports in the country!
