Well done. I travel a few times a year and there is no way those baggage handlers are getting their hands on my expensive scooter. Airlines tell you luggage is at your own risk. You will still get run over in a busy airport even on your scooter! Good luck to you!
Wow, thank you so much for putting the time in to make this video for using a mobility scooter in an airport for travel. I’ve been doing my research and came across your website and scooters. Looking for a travel friendly scooter I can take apart and put in car as well as one I can take to airport for travel. I guess I was under the impression I wouldn’t have to remove the battery, just concerned with carrying a purse, and possibly a carry on luggage plus battery it may be to much for me traveling by myself. I still plan on buying one from your company very soon, most likely tomorrow! Thank you again for caring so much for the disabled community as it’s not easy getting around like I used to before car accident caused severe injuries to both ankles over 3 yrs ago. ❤

Thanks for showing us that experience. I have the golden buzzaround xl-hd. It comes apart in pieces. How would the crew take it to the baggage area on the plane? Disassembled? I would be afraid of damage to the vehicle. They wouldn’t be able to carry it in one piece. I like the collapsible basket. I went to a Dr appointment yesterday needing to use elevators. I found that the doors closed too fast for me to get my scooter inside. How do you handle that? You don’t have the arm extension to reach much beyond the scooter to hold open the door. You would think a Drs office would consider handicapped vehicles and have the elevators and automatic hallway doors stay open longer. I would either have to back in or back out of the elevator as there wasn’t much room to turn around in the elevator . Easy way to damage scooter getting caught in closing doors. There wasn’t always much room to maneuver a scooter around in exam areas. There is still. Long ways to go for accessibility for handicapped people.
Typically there isn't enough time to show the air line attendance. How to take the scooter apart. But if there is, I would always recommend showing them how to at least remove the seat and the batteries. This way it's a lot lighter for them to carry and easier to transport.
Thank you! I’m about to buy a mobility scooter. I asked Delta if I could bring it to the gate, and was told, no, I’d have to check it, which I refuse to do. This was a great video!!

I love the video thanks for sharing it also I took my mom on the wheelchair to America it was a whole new experience for me never done it as a carer I had to make sure everything was checked through, the only bad experience I had when my cousin let me at the airport with forts at cases my mum in the wheelchair and no help whatsoever I was so frustrated and angry no help for many one but I'm sure over the years that has improved quite a lot hopefully one day I'll be traveling to America again to see my loved ones I want to come to America to see my nieces and nephew on Thanksgiving Day
Thanks for the video, I never travelled in an aeroplane before and after my accident. As a T5, I think this is going to be hell for me from the start till the end of the journey.
Interesting video. Hopefully you have one for someone who is non ambulatory requiring a transfer from a scooter to aisle wheelchair to get to your seat. Thank you "
A very interesting and informative video, thank you. But for those of us who do not live in America it would be helpful to see some international travel using similar equipment.
as a UK person, using a powered wheelchair, the process is exactly the same..... i fly across Europe and out to the U.S.... obviously the regulations to check are different
Hopefully you have subscribed so you can see the newest video being released today where we show you how to go on an airplane with an electric wheelchair. Thank you for watching and thank you for commenting!
Thanks! We agree, it's just the baggage handlers that need training. We get a lot of damaged mobility products that need repairs from airline employees that damage the product.
As a disabled person who traveled years ago, my experience was not the same as yours. I was belittled by the employees and treated as a second class citizen. They refused to assist me and left me to try to do things alone despite them knowing that wasn’t possible. That experience left me wanting to never fly again.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us. We know that the experience might not be the same for everyone but still hope that this video helps people what they need to know when traveling with their mobility scooter. Thanks for watching! We appreciate the support!
I’m from Australia and will be travelling to Japan and go on a cruise. I would request Wheelchair Assist and check my mobility scooter so I don’t have to go through all that dastardly stuff 😮 I treat it as just like checking in my Walker. Sooo much easier👍🏻☺️
Thank you so much for taking the time and expense to make this video, it is very helpful. The only issue I have is, your easy walk from the end of the jet-way to your seat on the airplane. What if (in my case) you are not able to walk that distance to your seat?
You should be given proper assistance if you let them know you'll need help getting to your seat. We also made a blog post about the travel so you'll probably learn more about it here: www.mobilityscootersdirect.com/blog/mobility-scooters/traveling-on-an-airplane-with-a-mobility-scooter/ Thanks for watching our video and commenting! When you book your flight tell the airline you will need to be met with a wheelchair. It's great. They will help you get all your stuff, take you to the right terminal/loading gate on the trams and they have an employee pass so can get into elevators and places you wouldn't even know about.
I found this video as we are trying to do a London/Greece trip with my father in law who has stage 4 cancer but still wants to go so we are going to try to get him a mobility scooter. I've taken my mobility scooter on several trips (via plane) before and it's exactly how everything has been depicted here. Everything goes pretty smooth. The most complicated part is going through TSA. Yes, you do get a pat down, it's part of how it is traveling with a mobility scooter, but I am personally fine with it. It doesn't bother me much. It's just a drawn out process.
We don't have one yet but this video should also give you ideas you'll need. How do you get a pouch for the battery? You took a longtime to load. Delta at Mco waited for us to load next group. You are a great reversing driver. I agree pack light. And be willing to ask other passengers for help, even when not on a scooter.
We have a battery bag on our website. Just like this one: www.mobilityscootersdirect.com/golden-technologies/golden-buzzaround-carry-on-lithium-ion-battery-replacement-gb120.html Thanks for watching our video and commenting!
I appreciate the video very much, but that "fishbowl" or whatever type of lens it is that is being used for it is very distracting. It actually gave me a mild headache to watch it. I'd be very interested in seeing a video for this using the Pride Revo 2.0, as I was wondering how to use it when flying. Thank you!
I have an ankle brace and when I flew Southwest they had wheelchairs with guides from checkin to the gate and also on destination they had wheelchairs by the gate. I had never even considered they would allow scooters. It was a snowbird destination so there were almost 10 wheelchairs. At the destination the guide had to push 2 chairs with people but managed. I was able to stand in the scanner and had to have my shoes on so they still took a while to swab my brace. So the scanners are not that complete.
Every flight I’m on is different some say leave battery in some take it out. One employee told me that guidelines for new lithium ion batteries is they can safely remain in.
We have been experiencing the same thing, it doesn't seem like all of the airline attendance are following the same guidelines. My guess it's due to lack of training.
I have a Pride Jazzy elite HD and i was wondering if i could travel with that... id love to see a video of how if thats possible. And i also have a question, if you have connecting flights, do they pull your wheelchair out for you at every stop?
Thanks for watching our video and commenting! That will be depending on the airline so you can communicate that with them before your flight. That is why we recommend checking with them before booking your flight. We're always trying to upload helpful videos and ride-along videos as much as possible. You can hit subscribe to be updated with our latest videos and for a chance to win a free mobility scooter!
They'll probably give you assistance if you tell them that. As you see in the video, they are attentive and are easy to talk with. Thanks for watching our video and commenting.
I have an electric wheelchair and I’ve gone flying with it many times. You stay seated in the chair and they will pat you down. It will be a person putting you down of your same gender, and they are very very polite and explain to you before they touch you exactly what they’re going to do. Not a big deal. But, I would get there early if you can. Sometimes it takes a while for them to find a TSA agent of the same gender as you.
@violetrosegold Lithium batteries must be removed before gate-checking your scooter and brought on the plane with you. In this case, we did remove it. You'll see Drew removed at the 26:39 mark on the video.
Great info guys! I am going on international travel in November and I hope it goes as well as your trip. Will you be making a international travel video any time soon?
I work at a large airport and fell in love with the GB120 because of this video. The only thing I don’t like is the lack of mounts for side view mirrors like the Pride i-Go, so I plan to rig something with GoPro mounts. Can you please measure and let me know the diameter of the handle bars at their narrowest and widest points so I can order parts before the scooter arrives? TIA
Hey Tom! You can give our non-commissioned sales experts a call at 888-263-5601 so we can help with the measurements and your purchase of the scooter. Thanks for watching! We appreciate the support.
Unfortunately because the CarryOn isn’t Medicare coded, I had to use a state waiver (similar to Florida’s DD wavier) to pay the scooter, and state waivers require bids to state vendors first. I really wish I could have ordered from you, as you’d have it on my doorstep faster. I’ll be buying the hard case through you next week though. I have no doubt it will arrive before the scooter which is a special order item at the DME suppliers up here.@@MobilityDirect

Can you travel with the mobility scooter to the northern Mariana’s islands just to see if the airline will allow that lithium battery to be put on the airline how far travel can you go with the mobility scooter

You'll probably have to do that. I have the GB120 and use it to travel on the airplane, it is great and I have not had a problem using it with the airlines. It is a great one and easy to use. My nephew is a baggage handler and he said the the handlers like it.

Awesome 😎
Enjoy these videos learn a lot from them hello from Nicholasville Kentucky
Right on! A lot of issues to be addressed when it comes to accessibility! I have a Metro Mobility ' Max Plus' 4 wheel scooter & am very happy with it!
Thank you! I’m about to buy a mobility scooter. I asked Delta if I could bring it to the gate, and was told, no, I’d have to check it, which I refuse to do. This was a great video!!

it's a little harder to manage inside the plane without your mobility device, but otherwise you did a pretty good job. i recently did this solo, and it's totally doable. TSA notwithstanding.

I love the video thanks for sharing it also I took my mom on the wheelchair to America it was a whole new experience for me never done it as a carer I had to make sure everything was checked through, the only bad experience I had when my cousin let me at the airport with forts at cases my mum in the wheelchair and no help whatsoever I was so frustrated and angry no help for many one but I'm sure over the years that has improved quite a lot hopefully one day I'll be traveling to America again to see my loved ones I want to come to America to see my nieces and nephew on Thanksgiving Day
Thanks for sharing your experience with us @bythesea2784! Hopefully, you'll have a better experience this time around! Thanks for the support!

as a UK person, using a powered wheelchair, the process is exactly the same..... i fly across Europe and out to the U.S.... obviously the regulations to check are different

thank you so much Russell! Good luck! Blessings!
great video. i also travel with a mobility scooter and tsa always does a fine job.
Knowing everything was filmed they are on their best behavior
I’m from Australia and will be travelling to Japan and go on a cruise. I would request Wheelchair Assist and check my mobility scooter so I don’t have to go through all that dastardly stuff 😮 I treat it as just like checking in my Walker. Sooo much easier👍🏻☺️
@madameyong2765 That's awesome. Stay safe and have fun on your trip! Thanks for watching and commenting. We appreciate the support!
We also made a blog post about the travel so you'll probably learn more about it here: www.mobilityscootersdirect.com/blog/mobility-scooters/traveling-on-an-airplane-with-a-mobility-scooter/
Thanks for watching our video and commenting! We appreciate the support.
Thanks for the informative video. As far as the black eye? I call bullshit! You are a brawler and we know our own! I hope you got your licks in. Great video and thank you for helping people. This video is really amazing to show people what they will go through. We are doing a Europe trip though so not sure if there are going to be other issues

Yes, its definitely a drawn out process, but if you follow the steps, its pretty easy.
Just for clarity your Li-ion battery is not a dry cell battery, it is a lithium ion battery. There is a distinction in the regs
All lithium batteries are dry cell.
They are but because Li-ions have their own rules, that should be our first answer not "It's dry cell". 🙂
Thank you for your content. I wonder how tsa deals with a person that can't stand?
in a video drew did it in a power wheelchair. he did not get out of the chair. stay tuned video will be out soon!
i travel a lot using a powered chair, i never get out of the chair
Great work ..hope you a good life🎉
You too! Thanks for watching @adelmak9572!

How do you get a pouch for the battery?
You took a longtime to load. Delta at Mco waited for us to load next group.
You are a great reversing driver.
I agree pack light. And be willing to ask other passengers for help, even when not on a scooter.
We have a battery bag on our website. Just like this one:

Thanks for watching our video and commenting!
Thank you!
Thanks for your comment!
@freedomisfromtruth Thanks for sharing your experience and for watching our video. We appreciate the support!
I see people traveling with them frequently. I gate check my device and able to walk on the plane.
It's super easy to travel with a mobility scooter now, the airlines are really catching up with the technology.
You can hit subscribe to be updated with our latest videos and for a chance to win a free mobility scooter!
hi drew think TSA should have looked at the battery compartment plus in uk disabled people go on plane FIRST good vid

As you go through TSA as an amputee do you know how they would perform the security scan of you and your chair if you aren't able to stand?
They'll probably give you assistance if you tell them that. As you see in the video, they are attentive and are easy to talk with. Thanks for watching our video and commenting.
I have an electric wheelchair and I’ve gone flying with it many times. You stay seated in the chair and they will pat you down. It will be a person putting you down of your same gender, and they are very very polite and explain to you before they touch you exactly what they’re going to do. Not a big deal. But, I would get there early if you can. Sometimes it takes a while for them to find a TSA agent of the same gender as you.
Informative! Question, before boarding, do you have to take the battery onboard or can you leave it on the scooter?
@violetrosegold Lithium batteries must be removed before gate-checking your scooter and brought on the plane with you. In this case, we did remove it. You'll see Drew removed at the 26:39 mark on the video.
Great info guys! I am going on international travel in November and I hope it goes as well as your trip. Will you be making a international travel video any time soon?
We'll consider doing that! Thanks for watching our video and commenting. Have a safe trip!
I seem to be having a problem on Singapore Airlines. The are now saying they will turn me away on my Golden GB120 scooter due to LIon battery issues (
nicely done!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting @armypman1! We appreciate it.

You can calculate the watt-hours by multiplying the voltage and capacity of the battery (ex. 12v12ah = 144 watt-hours). You can also learn more about it here: www.mobilityscootersdirect.com/blog/mobility-scooters/traveling-on-an-airplane-with-a-mobility-scooter/

They treat everyone like it’s the first lithium battery they have every seen 😂
LOL
Can you travel with the mobility scooter to the northern Mariana’s islands just to see if the airline will allow that lithium battery to be put on the airline how far travel can you go with the mobility scooter
If you have a scooter that is a medical grade class 2 mobility scooter, it should be accepted. You can also get more information about mobility scooters and batteries in airlines here in our blog post:
www.mobilityscootersdirect.com/blog/mobility-scooters/traveling-on-an-airplane-with-a-mobility-scooter/
Thanks for watching!
Hi thanks for your content,do you think a person could put a tiny fold up seated electric scooter in carry on and pass through x ray and continue?
No, sorry.
Is it free travel for the disabled in America or just the skooter or wheel chair. I am an American citizen living abroad.
You can bring your own scooter for free, sure.
I just got the go go endurance, so would I have to lift out the entire battery pack and put it in a carry on?
That's what I'm wondering, I believe I have the gogo elite. Also wanted to know if u have 2 know the weight of the scooter?
You'll probably have to do that. There are situations when they need to be removed and in this video, we made sure that we properly let the airlines crew where the batteries are located and removed it as they can easily fall off. But we still recommend reaching out to your airlines before booking a flight. You can also check the links added in the video description. Thanks for watching our video and commenting.
