  • In this video I go over mounting of an upgraded hub motor on the Jetson Bolt Pro. I am using a 1500 Watt motor I purchased from Aliexpress. I have links below to just about everything I used in this build. If you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments and I'll get to them as soon as I can.

I have the same hub, a 48V 20ah (125A output) copper battery I built. Kelly 7218N (Controller. So roughly 4800 watts. Its too much power and it power wheelies the bike. Ive ate sh1t once from a power wheelie😅. The hub really good. Unloaded it revs to 1350RPM and loaded 1040 RPM. Roughly 70kph top speed. I think Im going to make an extended swingarm.

I bought the same motor for my bike. So I can understand why after you noticed you put the tire on backwards you said “no way I’m going through that mess again”. Lol. It has almost no drop center, so getting that tire (a very stiff tire) on and off is not easy.
The motor is high kv and low kt. I did everything reverse of what you did. I bought the motor first, and connected it to the original 15a controller. Acceleration was about 50% of stock, but speed was faster, limited by the 15a.
Since the original BMS was also 15a, i upgraded that to an ANT 80a/200a Bluetooth bms, even though my battery was 25a continuous and 60a peak.
Then i installed a 27a controller i had laying around and with about 2x the peak amps i regained the original torque and it would go about 55kph with 48v battery. Original speed was 33kph.
So then I bought a Fardriver 72360 (190a DC/360a phase). This allowed me to use the battery’s full capability. Probably if I just installed a 60a controller at that time the bike would have been perfectly adequate. But NOOOOOO.
Since the ANT BMS was 7s-16s, and my battery case had room for a bigger battery, i made a 16s5p 21700 P42A pack. I can get 180a peak and 60a continuous. Now, with a 60v battery, the bike can go 70kph without field weakening. I went to 80kph with mild field weakening but it started death wobble and the current needed was 2x that of 70 kph so I turned field weakening off.
My bike is slightly different design, so it will not even try to wheelie with this motor. It’s more like a jet during takeoff.
The most I have sent is 10,000 watts, but I think you can get most of the torque with a 100a controller. Even a 60a controller would give that motor a decent acceleration and then it would pull back to below 30a for cruise. I feel this motor can handle 30a continuously.
Your 1000w controller (ill guess is 30a) will never utilize this motor effectively. I bet the acceleration is almost the same as the stock motor with stock controller, twice the amps but without the gear reduction.
Of course a Fardriver on a jetson is crazy but there are some programable controllers that would fit. The programable ones are so much smoother and have regen, and let you customize the speed and torque to match what your battery, motor riding environment can handle.
My future modifications will be more about suspension. I have a rear swingarm but it has two 1000lb springs so it behaves like a hardtail. Lol

what an incredible write up, i'll have you know that I read all of this with a huge smile on my face. Just when I thought i was done with this build, you come and hit me with all this haha. To be honest im pretty happy with what im getting out of the motor controller, but knowing there is so much untapped potential definitely makes me curious to say the least. Thanks so much for sharing.
ps. there was no damn way i was going to reverse the tire after fighting it on and realizing it was backwards haha.

I definitely recommend it, I wasn’t able to get mine back on there until I swapped the chain to accommodate the larger rear sprocket ⚙️

Bro if I upgrade the controller 36 1000 watts and keep the same stock rear hub motor will the new controller give some ghly more torque. I just need more torque to pull me up hills not concerned about high speed. Any tips bro

I tried that and unfortunately you’ll put too much stress on the motor and eventually fry it, before that all your rides will sound terrible, I couldn’t stand the sound. I had upgraded the controller and battery. After that I ended up just getting the motor and finishing the job.

    Tires on backward

      @JUNXRCZ  Год назад

yea thanks, after fighting to get the tire on the wheel and realizing the tire was facing the wrong direction, i made the decision to just rock it backwards. Doesn't matter much with this type of tire tread anyways.

Yeah lol it would just do my head in and would just keep looking at it I would have to flip it lol🤔
