was that you with the amazing bass?
What an amazing deep voice!!
I hadn't even noticed all the names but I recognized your voice as soon as the song started 😍
Haha dude you killed it!
After listening so many times, I realized that every verse shows different approaches to a break-up.
Colm: disappointed indifference and a lack of interest
Dan: liberation from suffering and standing strong
Jonathan: grieving the loss and lamenting over how empty everything feels in the moment
Thomas: reminiscent on the best parts of the relationship and upset that the good times ended
Caleb: pessimistic and seeing love as a waste of time
I think that is a very good perspective. Thank you
I would never have spotted that if you hadn't pointed it out and I enjoyed the prospective you provided

@@JoyBoy0606 That is a very interesting and convincing interpretation of the song. I was looking at this through the lense of a strictly religious interpretation. Each verse felt like a different part of my life in regards to religion, and the analogy of the times I have broken up with God really resonated with me. That probably wasn't your original meaning, but I thank upunfor giving me some perspective

I like to imagine this is like a group of guys bonding in a bar over being sad, like in a musical
like i can see it in a move where each guy had something happen and now they are crying over beers with buddies.
Colm is a musician, he had a partner and they had a big show together, but they (the partner) just wanted the glory and ditched him as soon as they got some recognition
Dan just got out of a very unhealthy relationship, but still misses them
Jonathan lost his partner, they died in war, and he just got the news
Thomas just got out of a very healthy relationship, and misses them
Caleb had gotten into a big fight with someone he really cares for, and doesn't know if he can ever fix the relationship.

This song, despite being originally written by and often preformed by one person, is perfect for a group to cover. The interpretation I've heard and like is that each verse is what 'Hallelujah' means to different people, so splitting up the song among different singers is a really cool way to display that.
I'm not too familiar with the lyrics, but the second verse at least showcases King David ("saw her bathing on the roof") -- who's also mentioned in the first verse -- and what sounds like Samson (tied down, cut hair). Not sure what that might say about the other verses. Samson's tale is about a guy who kept falling for bad women, and David had tons of wives without being satisfied and murdered a guy to take his wife as well, so...
@@Arkylie David was known as the "singing king", but he had a lot of trouble near the end of his life, if memory from Sunday school serves me.
"Your faith was strong but you needed proof" is also a reference to Thomas the apostle, who put his hand in the wound left by the Romans' lance to know for sure that Jesus was back.
"Love is not a victory march" could be a reference to the walls of Jericho and how they were brought down with trumpets.
The fourth verse for me has very ~intimate~ connotations, which blurs the line here between love/romance and faith/religion.
What I love is that they left the original phrase "Maybe there's a God above" because questioning it is a core Jewish thing with faith, and the songwriter was Jewish. I think that, overall, the song is kind of a love song and kind of a faith song, the divine and sacred act of loving, and holding on to love like one holds on to faith even in the face of doubt about it.
It's a very complex song and therein lies its beauty,
Never thought of the song like that. Now I love it even more ❣️
I love this. But you should also hear the Pentatonix version as well. that one is also divine
No, it's not. The poem is ONE man's struggle with religion. Having multiple people sing it kind of muddies the actual meta artistry behind Cohen's performance.

THE VERSE THOMAS SANG, I HAD NEVER HEARD IT BEFORE NOW- Sorry, this cover sent literal shivers down my spine and gave me so many endorphins....
Well, it's supposed to be "Holy Dove." It's not Dark or Duck, like he sang.
Same
@@JumboWatermelon I don’t think there is a “right” version of that verse. It’s been the holy dove, holy dark, and holy light alternatively. That fits with the spirit of the piece, though, because the piece is centered around the subjective emotional interpretation of the word “Hallelujah”. It’s different in different situations - means different things to different people - it’s more like an exclamation than anything else. It’s a much more abstract song, I think, than most people appreciate.
Honestly you should listen to the various versions of Hallelujah. I think I’ve heard at least 13 of them. I believe some people made their own verses. It’s really moving, and hearing everyone relate to it in their own way makes me feel connected to humanity.
I love that they did this piece in 5 parts with different artists. To me it’s become a piece that symbolizes the unity of the emotional experience of life.

The Tale Of The Famed 5 Suits:
Upon your walk around the old theatre, you start hearing singing.
You yell out, "Who's there?!"
The voice just kept singing. The one voice grew into 2, then into 3, then 4, and lastly 5. All singing im parts and eventually synchronization. You peer onto the stage to see 5 ghostly men in suits singing to a faded crowd of the dead. Theres no fear in you, but there is a calming feeling and joy.
When the ghosts stopped singing they bowed and disappeared. Along with their departure the ghostly crowd clapped while slowly disappearing. As the room finally went silent you go to stand on the stage looking around.
You smile and go back to your duty now realising that nothing bad is there, but only the ghosts of the past continuing their performance.

Caleb, Jonathan, Thomas, Colm, AND Dan?! .... Welp, time to cry XD
I came here because of Dan Vasc and it was worth it. Great collaboration and it was a pleasure. From 0:53 - 1:38 wow. Dan fans know what I'm talking about ♥️🤟
Yes we do, love are Dan
This is a great example of “A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.”
Seriously, this was pretty good. You guys were amazing here. Very nice.
Can I give the harmnizing a 10/10 for being a show choir kid I think it sounds amazing
I don't always sing along when listening to songs, since I'm usually drawing, doing housework, etc, while listening, but this one I sing along with every time.
As a fan of all 5, this was a delight. God bless you all.
@Christian Iulian Amen!!
I've listened to this song dozens of times and I've NEVER heard the 4 verse! It actually painted a more full image to the story. That aside, this was AMAZING and everyone was great
Hallelujah is one of my fav songs, no matter who's singing or the tone it's always a masterpiece
Thomas Sanders, Caleb Hyles, and Jonathan Young all in one video?? Is this heaven?
I HOPE SO
This cover was absolutely gorgeous, and the harmonies at the end left me tearing up a bit. Everyone's voices stood out in their own way but also worked so well together: I'm just awestruck. Beautifully performed!
Голоса СКАЗОЧНЫЕ это потрясающе, аж до мурашек
This is... just absolutely perfect!
The start with the deeper voice was just a perfect build up then the middle with the more softer voices helped the song grow even more
Then when all of you song together... well all I can say is I had goosebumps
An excellent piece of music from you all! Thanks for sharing this!
This song was in my recommendations yesterday... I listened to it at around 1pm while I was in the city with my boyfriend. An hour later I recieved a call from my mother that she found my older brother dead in the shower. He died at the same time I listened to this song. I'm not religious, but the song gave me the chills. Now I listen to this song on repeat the whole day. My brother would have loved this version of halleluja. I hope you can hear this in the afterlife, Peter.
This may be breaching confidentiality, but did you find out the cause of death?
@@rhodesdrakethenieliii3209 It was a pulmonary embolism, a quick and almost painless death. He was only 34 years old...
@@crazypunkcat4880 So a blood clot broke loose and travelled in his bloodstream, only to block off one of the arteries in his lungs; and the fact he was only 34... Jesus
Lisa Robin Kelly (Laurie Forman from That 70s Show) was only 43 when she died, but I'm glad your older brother Peter didn't die from a "multiple drug intoxication" unlike her; shortness of breath and chest pain do not mix with each other. Pray to Zeus that none of your children disrespect his death
P.S: Just for the record I looked her name up because I thought she was the same age as him, turned out she was older than she looked when the show was on
Hell, BlasphemousHD was surprised when he heard her death on Looper's "14 Actors You May Not Know are Dead"
@CrazyPunkCat I lost someone very close to me recently. A guy I only knew through an MMORPG and my parents who was an uncle to me. He hadn't been online due to undergoing an experimental cancer treatment that went south, so I hadn't gotten the chance to share this song with him. He was an Irishman, however, so I have a strong feeling he would've enjoyed this cover. Stay strong, my friend. Keep honoring your brother.
The ending harmony is possibly the best thing my ears have ever heard
Colm McGuinness will forever be the greatest bass in the world. Ginger gang
idk about that lol, he's amazing though
Dudes hitting notes like he's sucking Sulfer Hexaflouride
HOLY AVENGERS ASSEMBLE...!!! What a crew!
This was absolutely amazing to listen to! Hallelujah indeed~ 💕✨🌈
When I see a Brazilian singer like Dan Vasc being in a collab with (in my humble opinion) the best singers in youtube, I have an strange feeling of accomplishment. Like... Wow. Dan is so good, but so good that he's finally being among people equally as good and appreciated for what he achieved. I can't really explain it.
Somehow, It's incredibly inspiring to me. You are ALL fantastic, all of you. Really. This is the best cover of Hallelujah that I've heard recently. I may not know a thing about music, but I admire beauty and effort, which you all always put into everything you do.
Thank you for one more amazing song
AMEN to that!
Dan Vasc steht für mich an erster Stelle ❤. Unverwechselbare Stimme. Tolle Zusammenarbeit
That’s a lot of RUclipsrs, thank for this masterpiece!
PERFECTION! Absolute perfection! Everyone sang beautifully. These crossovers just keep on getting better.
I quite enjoyed it, but I started to get amused when some of the singers pronounced "you" in full instead of rhyming it with the main word. "Ya/yah" applies to nearly every line-ending "you" in this piece, aside from the one that rhymes with "too".
The last three singers definitely made this flub. I didn't notice it in the previous verses but I'm too tired to go double-check just now.
A reminder, I suppose, that the little oddities and quirks don't keep a song from being a great pleasure to listen to. (I'm still amused at Dan Vasc pronouncing "Thompson" with a TH sound in Northwest Passage, which is such a badass rendition with just that little hint of quirk.)
Strangely, I always think of the Apostles when I hear this:
James, Andrew, Peter, John, Paul.
God everyone has such distinct voices it's amazing.
I love the lineup. It’s truly legendary and everyone sounds amazing, but I got to say, Caleb still stole the show with his part. Except Colms low note, that part might actually be the best part
At the end when everyone gets together was an incredible beautiful sound. Everything that i heard in this song was INCREDIBLY amazing
I… I’m speechless! This is a cover that needs to be put into a museum.
I read sanders and I was like wait Thomas sanders?
It’s so cool y’all know each other! You two are some of my favorite singers
I can pretty solidly say this is my new comfort song which means I'll listen to it 20+ times a day for at least a month.
"Beautiful, simply beautiful. I know I'm writing this in Spanish, but it goes without saying that this is the best collaboration, and it's the best version of this song I've heard. I don't regret subscribing so long ago."
(also not a perfect one to one translation, I tried to get the feeling across too)

One of the few songs
which can be described as an actual masterpiece.
Dude, Colm's voice is a world wonder.
Oh my god, the harmonies on the last refrain...
Literal shivers. Beautiful.
The end had me teary eyed, that group "Hallelujah" hit different
Thomas's Part Makes me say "Whoa Its so Beautiful this Part." 😌
Well done guys! Many versions of this song are just so over the top that I can't stand listening. But this is perfect! Goosebumps everywhere. And Caleb at the end with all the emotions? A broken Hallelujah indeed!
Everyone did an amazing job at not only singing their part, but also showing some of the true emotions meant in the song. I could feel every single emotion from the song in the voices and I am so happy about it. Keep up the good work
Their voices carry so well. It's so calming.
This is hands down the BEST rendition of this song I have EVER heard. Way to beat out all the other pros guys!! Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful, beautiful talents with us.
