As an English and etymology nerd, the fact that he rhymed "mind" and "wind" in the original Middle English pronunciation just warms my heart. The "Great Vowel Shift" messed up English lyrics, poetry, and Shakespearean dirty jokes. Also, you can see just how much he loves this song, and I don't blame him. This and "Oh Holy Night" are my favorite Christmas songs. What a great arrangement.

@@GeoffCastellucci my impression (also from my own standpoint) alot of people find deeper voices calming, comforting, and safe. @@idaengest4069 I have to agree with you about calming, comforting, and safe. That's a major part of the draw for me. Geoff also has a warmth, ease, and joy in his tone that can't be faked. I say that about all the singers in VoicePlay too, but it's the combination of that and bass range for me.
@Wayne I am one who has always, ALWAYS preferred the richness of a good bass voice over any of the higher voices. A good bass voice will literally give me the chills and make me shiver. I freaking love it. It's a beautiful, warm, earthy sound that I have always been drawn to, and it always elicits a visceral response from me when I hear it. Yes, there's a safe and comforting quality to it, but for me it's that earthy rumble. Geoff's voice also manages to carry a gentleness in it, even in his lowest sub notes without losing the earthquake rumble. And that is just completely enchanting for me. There's a place and time for the higher voices, too. There is. And I do also enjoy them as well. But for me, nothing quite compares to the velvet wrapped in honey of a good bass. :) I'm a female low contralto, so I sing basically the tenor range (but being female, I don't have that lovely tenor bright AND full timbre). If i had a penny for every time I've been told to force my voice up into the alto range or that I "just can't sing" because my range is inconvenient for what they were doing, I'd have a mansion on a private island somewhere. LOL. I've tried to reach the alto range... I can't. Simply cannot do it without causing injury. Heck, some of the higher tenor range is hard for me to reach! I've had a much easier time coming to accept my voice as it is, since getting into the acapella groups over the last five years or so. Learning that people DO actually appreciate the whole range of voices, including those of us on the bottom ends of our respective voice groups, has gone a long, long way towards reigniting the actual desire to sing again. All this to say... you don't ever need to be ashamed or shy about your bass range. Take what nature endowed you with, care for it, and let it blossom. There is something a bass voice adds to music that no other voice type can. And it's the soul of the music; take the bass line out of anything, and all those higher voices leave you with a piece of music that sounds empty and hollow.
This may be your best yet. The way you take what is normally such a simple melody and twist and layer it into something that is both familiar and enchanting is wonderful. This will be on repeat for some time!

Ends with a bass underscore that gives the ground itself a shiver. I don't always like it when people rearrange some of the traditional songs, but that was a masterclass in how to rearrange without losing the original feeling of the song! Thank you sir!
I love listening to this over and over. Not only is it one of my favorite carols but it reminds me of my childhood. My father was a bass baritone and every year the whole family would gather around the piano and singe Christmas carols. That was 60 years ago. He's been gone for nearly 40 years now but I'll never forget.
I have been going through some really stressful shit, anxiety through the roof, heart pounding, brain fog, inability to focus, everything making me panic type of anxiety, can't even sleep but SO exhausted, not eating, starving but no appetite, yet when I came across this on my youtube feed, all that melted away. I have not felt this comforted in a while. Your voice feels like a weighted blanket in the most comforting way possible. Thank you for sharing this gift 💕
Geoff's voice really is like a warm, comforting and safe hug. I use his narrations several times a week to help me sleep, they are so soothing and relaxing to listen to ❤❤
It is not an easy task to express "comfort and joy" coming from the Bass register! WOW you were able to capture the uplifting and welcoming ideal of the song perfectly! Great Job Geoff!
When days get dark, know this: people from all over the world love and appreciate you for your amazing talent, your phenomenal voice, and your great personality! Thank you for being you! Blessings to you and your loved ones! ♥️
I want an entire Christmas album sung by Geoff 😮 what a voice, it's so soothing, like a lullaby, so gentle on the ears, no fatigue from listening at all (I can't handle high notes for too long...but low notes, all day every day, so nice on the ears).
No matter how many times I see these, my brain still cannot wrap around the amazingness that is Geoff's range. It insists that it's someone else singing even while watching Geoff do it.
This is such an excellent version of a great Christmas song. Oh the beautiful harmonies of the Geof-tet. I can't wait to add it to my holiday playlist.
What I most enjoy is that you don't just "perform". You project a song, with feelings, enjoyment and emotions. You put your heart and soul into your music and it shows. Everything I have heard you sing has left me awe struck. When I see you have a new video out, I know it's going to be great, and you never have failed me. You always finish a song, and I always wish it was longer. Thank you for sharing your music with the world. God Bless and Happy Holidays to you and your family.
I came here to say this. Geoff's joy in making music is what makes it magic. His warmth and personality just glow to both sight and hearing. Actually I think this is true for all the members of VoicePlay and especially in their musical alchemy together. I've loved everything of theirs that I've heard as well.
This guy made this song so much better. He added such a 'dangerous' feel to the song, while keeping the same merriness and displaying his vocal range. I had no idea Geoff could get better. and then he did
This arrangement is kind of haunting in its own way and utterly amazing, Geoff displays his prowess with arrangement management very well and never disappoints
@@bobstr6224 I meant in natural range, and I wouldn't dare claim he isn't a really low bass, but I think a big part of his lowness is subtones (a technique) instead of natural range
This is the song that started my recent obsession with the music of Geoff Castellucci and VoicePlay. I haven’t heard much new music to get excited about in years. In November 2023, I decided my old holiday playlist was getting a little tired. Since radio playlists are dreadful, I scoured Spotify and RUclips looking for new recordings. This is one of my all-time favorite Christmas carols, and Geoff’s version came up during my search. I was wowed by his gorgeous, deep voice and the beautiful arrangement! Within a couple days, I had watched nearly every video and mini, bought multiple songs, and joined Patreon. What a great holiday gift this turned out to be!
This is the first time I've seen a video by this guy, but I've got to say I'm really impressed! Not only are his lowest notes still clear, but he had a very impressive range in general!
There is something so comforting and satisfying about those low notes. And I never stop getting surprised at his range how does he sound so good no matter what register he's singing in??
Wow...another major demonstration of Geoff's range. I am perpetually amazed how anyone can sing such deep bass, and then flip to a high tenor in one breath. A one man choir for sure.
Magnifico! Sei un grande davvero complimenti! E grazie per questo incredibile pezzo che ho appena ascoltato! Il significato di questo testo è una forza della natura! E la tua voce mi sta facendo venir voglia di passare da tenore a basso🙂👏👏 🙏🫶
Geoff, I appreciate the music, from the bottom of my heart, because your voice is literally smooth like butter and just glides from note to note, especially those low subharmonics. Merry Christmas Geoff
practically for a year listening this track and "White Christmas" every week and sometimes every day, over and over again, they are so cool, thank you very much!
Your arrangements and voice always make every song outstanding, so when you announced this on Patreon I thought that this would very probably become my new favourite. My expectations were certainly high, but once again you’ve exceeded them by far! The arrangement, your voice, the drums (I love drums!), the strings, the bells, everything is just right! Thanks for turning this Christmas carol into something extraordinary! Merry Christmas!
Is it sacrilegious that, after hearing this for the first time I actually said " aw hell yeah!" out loud? There was no one around to hear me except the cat and she wasn't listening. 😄 Thank you sir for another absolutely stunning arrangement and performance of an old standard! ❤
You never disappoint with your incredible productions. The lighting in the background is so cool and interesting with the minimal and simplistic set dressing. Fits really well. Incredible harmonies, LOVE the use of canon in multiple places, really fits with the song and the vibe. I love the build up and the pay-off.. It seems like you had a lot of fun with this one, which is always great to witness! The difference in range from backing vocals to lead vocal.. so interesting as it is all the same voice.. there are so many details in this to pick up on. I love the change in camera movements, drawing inspiration from the rhythm, tempo and vibe of different moments in the song and making it dynamic. I also really like the backing track, it fits really well, but your voice and harmonies are still the star of the show. It complements really well and adds to the overall end product. Simply marvelous! Happy Holidays to you and yours, Geoff(s)!
I can't be the only 'dirty old lady' imagining that voice whispering in her ear and sending shivering vibrations down her spine.. and that's with a christmas song.. imagine a love song.. oooh boy.
This is the second time Geoff has done a cover of a song with a high reputation and in my opinion has completely made the song a totally different thing of its own and made it arguably better than the predecessors. Needless to say I love the song and even though it’s a Christmas song I will be listening to this until June have a good day❤️
This dude is hitting so many of my favorite songs, STOP IT, you're going to make me smash the subscribe button, the like button, and not forget to hit the notification bell to make sure I don't miss any content!!! But really though, I'm continually impressed by the depth and breadth of your singing. It's beautiful and I'm definitely (more than) a bit jealous, keep it up!
I read a book series recently called the dark is rising and the second book was set around Christmas; they sang this song. When reading the lyrics this was the only thing i could hear, the vibes matched what was going on in the book perfectly!
I've only recently arrived in "Geoff's World" and am loving every minute. I've listened to this so many times that I'm now hearing a lot of the not-so-obvious things - in particular, the instrumental hits during "high Geoff's" solo really add to the excitement. Bravo!
Just want to pop in to say that it's 6 months later, Christmas is long gone, and still listening to this to pick up my spirits 😁 Thanks so much for this one, Geoff!
It's amazing how you can take a song so old and change it so much, yet leave the listener with the impression that the song was always meant to be this way. Truly not just a great voice, but a talented artist.
I thought the heavy metal version of Carol of the Bells was my favorite dramatic Christmas song but THIS beats it. Loved this song! Also, the 2nd from the right Geoff is my favorite Geoff. Glad to see him get a turn in the spotlight.
Time to open this in a new tab, set the alarm, call out from work, take a sick day, request a personal, skip school, close up for the day.... Basically this became top priority.
This rendition reminds me of my dad. He was a bass singer who loved Christmas songs and air-conducting imaginary orchestras/choirs while he sang along to them, and when this song hits the point where the instrumentation swells in, I can't help smiling and imaging the fun Dad would have had singing and conducting along with Maestro Geoff. :)
This is what I imagine a choir of angels sounding like. Bold and powerful and joyful! Also, the play of light and shadows is very evocative: Joy resounding in the darkness of a midwinter night. Beautiful. You've preserved the gravity of the old hymn while infusing it with new energy.
Not even gonna sugar goat it this man and his music really help me in my dark times and even saved me from them before. His voice is so calming and his spirit is so caring. None could compare.

@@Dani_Ela13 Thank you, but I don't celebrate Catholic Christmas 😅
@@alexking930 🙈 I apologize, have a wonderfull Watchalong then.
Starts traditional, then morphs into an audible rendition of the joy proclaimed in the lyrics as the Geoff clones bounce melody, harmony, and phrases around between them. Ends with a bass underscore that gives the ground itself a shiver. I don't always like it when people rearrange some of the traditional songs, but that was a masterclass in how to rearrange without losing the original feeling of the song! Thank you sir!
True 👍
This sounds absolutely phenomenal on Bose noise, canceling headphones. It gave my throat a massage!
I love listening to this over and over. Not only is it one of my favorite carols but it reminds me of my childhood. My father was a bass baritone and every year the whole family would gather around the piano and singe Christmas carols. That was 60 years ago. He's been gone for nearly 40 years now but I'll never forget.

That's great!

🤣
Nah, Geoff Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
The accurate substitution ;)
@@GeoffCastellucci I would love to hear you sing old toy trains by toby Keith you'll nail it I love your voice! ❤️❤️❤️

His extraordinary lows vibrate right to my soul. So beautiful.
@@pegialberts2997 Geoff's lows get me right in the feels! **Shivers** I get goosebumps of delight every single time.
Yes, please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow!! His vocal range is... There are no words to describe how amazing it is. Just... Wow.
No matter how many times I see these, my brain still cannot wrap around the amazingness that is Geoff's range. It insists that it's someone else singing even while watching Geoff do it.
ooooooh that picardy third was beautiful
I expected you would be here. Seems I was right.
It's you!! :D
You should do a transcription if you can, would be cool to visualize the harmonies
Fancy seeing you here!! I love your channel!
If dark chocolate would have a sound.

@theeternal2734 I'm offended that you're offended, and therefore I must join in this fight to the death
Nononono... if AfterEight~ had a sound. Granted it is partially made of dark chocolate but still. Even the colors match😂
Hilarious! Yes… good analogy.
Now i will hear this song during my late night dark chocolate trips to the freezer
This is such an excellent version of a great Christmas song. Oh the beautiful harmonies of the Geof-tet. I can't wait to add it to my holiday playlist.
The Geoff-tet 🤩😍
The ability to go from bass to tenor is amazing.
This guy made this song so much better. He added such a 'dangerous' feel to the song, while keeping the same merriness and displaying his vocal range. I had no idea Geoff could get better. and then he did
Geoff's genius at arranging is front and center. If you need a detailed breakdown of why this is so amazing, Peter Barber does an excellent analysis
More of this please.
God has blessed you with a magnificent voice. Share it with the world.
This arrangement is kind of haunting in its own way and utterly amazing, Geoff displays his prowess with arrangement management very well and never disappoints
Based on the timbre of his voice I don't know if his voice is much lower than most choir basses, but his control over subtones is just really powerful
He is lower.
@@bobstr6224 I meant in natural range, and I wouldn't dare claim he isn't a really low bass, but I think a big part of his lowness is subtones (a technique) instead of natural range
@@bruhspenning you are right, however he also is a very solid bass even without those sub tones
Lovely. Love the highs and lows with his voice.
This is the first time I've seen a video by this guy, but I've got to say I'm really impressed! Not only are his lowest notes still clear, but he had a very impressive range in general!
Have you heard him sing Sixteen tons? Oh my gosh!
I'm teaching myself to perform 16 tons with his karaoke track. Fellow bass singer!
The richness of 3:01 has me ascending to the heavens above 🤌
There is something so comforting and satisfying about those low notes. And I never stop getting surprised at his range how does he sound so good no matter what register he's singing in??
Wow...another major demonstration of Geoff's range. I am perpetually amazed how anyone can sing such deep bass, and then flip to a high tenor in one breath. A one man choir for sure.
When I go thru the pearly gates, I hope to hear Pavarotti, Bocelli and Castellucci singing. ABSOLUTELY Heavenly!
You know, this implies you want him to die before you do.
Could be that there are clones, I guess.
🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂 "Pearly gates..." Boy, are you ever in for a huge surprise!
all Italians, ethnically
Im not going if Geoff isnt singing in my ear.
Geoff's voice brings me all the comfort and joy I could ever need. 😊❄️
I would love to hear “We Three Kings of Orient Are”.
Magnifico! Sei un grande davvero complimenti! E grazie per questo incredibile pezzo che ho appena ascoltato! Il significato di questo testo è una forza della natura! E la tua voce mi sta facendo venir voglia di passare da tenore a basso🙂👏👏 🙏🫶
Geoff, I appreciate the music, from the bottom of my heart, because your voice is literally smooth like butter and just glides from note to note, especially those low subharmonics. Merry Christmas Geoff
Merry Christmas!
practically for a year listening this track and "White Christmas" every week and sometimes every day, over and over again, they are so cool, thank you very much!
Is anyone going to point out how freaking awesome Geoff looks in that costume and that hairstyle. Because he does.
We all admire, appreciate, and love Geoff’s deep notes, but I’ve got to say that I really loved his tenor voice in this song. It is beautiful!
This gesticulation is on another level
This is so cool!! I didn’t know human voices went that low! This guy’s range is impressive!
Is it sacrilegious that, after hearing this for the first time I actually said " aw hell yeah!" out loud? There was no one around to hear me except the cat and she wasn't listening. 😄 Thank you sir for another absolutely stunning arrangement and performance of an old standard! ❤
I felt the first note all the way to my booty. I'd say, not at all!
Hello Kelly how are you today
The cat was listening! They always listen...there might be food!
My first reaction was “holy hell!” Geoff is good... I knew that, but wow this was awesome!
So good!
I can't be the only 'dirty old lady' imagining that voice whispering in her ear and sending shivering vibrations down her spine.. and that's with a christmas song.. imagine a love song.. oooh boy.
Oh look, it's my favorite group. Geoff and the Castelluccis
I do so love watching Geoff be an entire men's choir all by himself.
Hi
This is the second time Geoff has done a cover of a song with a high reputation and in my opinion has completely made the song a totally different thing of its own and made it arguably better than the predecessors. Needless to say I love the song and even though it’s a Christmas song I will be listening to this until June have a good day❤️
Me too beautiful voice and inspired
Damn! You are the most awesome voice I've ever listened to. Greetings from Spain. You rock!
Можно слушать бесконечно! Полное поглощение этим голосом! Этим тембром! Пение на 4 голоса - это что-то волшебное!
One of my favorite Christmas songs. This is an excellent rendition. 😊
Man am I excited. My favorite singer and one of my favorite Christmas songs.
The hand movement is like..mesmerizing
It's so smooth, I just want to cry.
Chills. Geoff is not only insanely talented, but classy. I would argue that his arrangements are just as impactful as his voice. Bravo!
Потрясающий голос! Я не ожидала, что диапазон такой широкий! Браво!!!
I just cannot get enough of a deep bass singing voice! I can feel it in my soul.
Thank you, my 13 year old became a bass last year... and I've been looking for a true bass for him to listen to.
Amazing voice!
Tiktok brought here... Hoist the Colors by Voiceplay and discovering this man's coreshaking voice. I am hooked 😍
Bravo!
Woah, I never knew that Christmas carols could be sexy!
Ok it's official... you are my new speaker bass test music lol. SO awesome!
Just want to pop in to say that it's 6 months later, Christmas is long gone, and still listening to this to pick up my spirits 😁
Thanks so much for this one, Geoff!
This is one of my favorites of yours and one of my favorite songs in general. Thank you.
Прекрасное исполнение, шикарный голос, чудесный антураж, все со вкусом, очень хорошо. Спасибо
Amazing 🥰
It's amazing how you can take a song so old and change it so much, yet leave the listener with the impression that the song was always meant to be this way. Truly not just a great voice, but a talented artist.
I thought the heavy metal version of Carol of the Bells was my favorite dramatic Christmas song but THIS beats it. Loved this song!
Also, the 2nd from the right Geoff is my favorite Geoff. Glad to see him get a turn in the spotlight.
If you like Carol Of The Bells, you're gonna *love* his newest release!
@@felicitymcdonald24 WHAT?! Seriously? My day is made, thank you.
@@felicitymcdonald24 I loooooved it!
You're so talented and your voice is amazing Sir. God bless you
This is what I imagine a choir of angels sounding like. Bold and powerful and joyful!
Also, the play of light and shadows is very evocative: Joy resounding in the darkness of a midwinter night. Beautiful. You've preserved the gravity of the old hymn while infusing it with new energy.
I always thought that angels should sound genderless, like contratenors, and the voice this low is somewhat devilish 😂
@@_Dwarkin Fair point! A choir of "Fear not!"-type angels must have a good bass though, surely? For a really frighteningly awesome sound. 😇
Geoff, what can be said that hasn't already been said? You are absolute magic. Every song, every note, every unexpected moment is pure magic.
Wow! Your voice is increadible!
This has been one of my favorite Christmas songs for a long time and this is my new favorite version of it.
That was such a beautiful arrangement. To find someone with a vocal range capable of doing all those parts so beautifully is so amazingly wonderful
Not even gonna sugar goat it this man and his music really help me in my dark times and even saved me from them before. His voice is so calming and his spirit is so caring. None could compare.
