I have worn several of those. When you were a little girl smelling Safari I was in my 30s wearing it as my signature. I miss the oldies. My old vintage bottles are really ancient, though, because I’m now in my 60s.

I met and fell deeply in love with Poison in the winter of 1985 ... Unforgettable. It became my signature perfume for years, and for me spoke of deep intense exotic midnights and magical dawns: powerful and rich, yet strangely innocent. Nothing like it. I was pleased to see your longer/taller bottle, as that was how my first few bottles looked. Later it became the plump round bottles that we still see today. This was absolutely a 'love/hate' perfume. It will always have a place in my heart. Xxxxxxx

When I was a teenager my favorite perfumes were WindSong and Heaven Sent! (1970's). I would save up my babysitting money to buy those. ❤ I wore Charlie in my 20's, Realites in my 30's, and White Shoulders for special occasions. Then I became a nurse and we weren't allowed to wear perfume, so I quit using perfume all together. Now I'm 60, and I just starting wearing perfume once again! I have Blooming Bouquet by Dior, and Pure Musc by Narcisso Rodriguez, and I love them both!

I love, love, love this video! You are like me, a person who loves rich, beautiful statement perfumes instead of the wishy-washy rubbish that is around now. I loved so many of these perfumes and I remember that some of us fashionable young girls were banned from wearing Poison and also Dewberry from The Bodyshop (in the UK) by our boss because he detested them and could take no more of the headaches!! It is amazing that perfumes can invoke memories in a way that nothing else can. My Mum too was always very glamorous and wore (still does, aged 83!) fabulous scents. Here in the UK original Cinnabar is still available and I forgot all about Fire and Ice, which, sadly, I don't think is on sale here anymore now. I wore Safari when it first came out and have lovely memories of a gorgeous ex-boyfriend whenever I wear it. Look forward to more of your vids. Thanks.

I know this is an older video, but I’m getting into fragrances as a hobby and find that I am drawn to these vintage ones for the nostalgia. I’m about 10 years older than you and was a teenager in the 80s. I remember being afraid of Opium and Poison back then as they were so powerful they could blow you away. Now I feel like I took them for granted and wish that I could have them back as they used to be. It’s sad that modern fragrances are so weak in comparison. I wonder why that is? Are the ingredients too expensive now? Harder to find/endangered in natural forms? My mother wore Charlie, Halston, and Amarige. I used to love Safari, Calvin Klein Eternity, and YSL Paris. I also used to wear Coty Wild Musk a lot because my boyfriend (now husband) loved it. I want to get a bottle of Mahora again. I associate that one with getting one of my first jobs after grad school. I’d love to watch a video with your advice, sources, and tricks for tracking down authentic vintage perfumes, if you’d be willing to share. I know they can be found on eBay and Mercari, but how do you avoid fakes or know it’s not a reformulation? Thanks for making this video. I’d love to see more like this as your vintage collection grows.

Never thought of myself as vintage, but I suppose I am based on how long I have been treating myself with perfumes. In the 70s, 80s and 90s my favourite perfumes were:
70s: Tweed, Bellogia, Shalimar, L'air du Temps, Cabochard, Rive Gauche, Silences
80s: Nocturnes, Ralph Lauren's Lauren, Ralph Lauren's Safari, Maggie Noir, Salvador Dali, Channel 19, Clairborne, Halston, Obsession, Ombre Rose
90s: Hermès Un Jardin sur le Nil, Samsara, Creed's Vanilla, Pleasures, Dolce n Gabbana's By (brown leopard print)
Not one of these so-called vintage fragrances smell anything like they originally did, nor do they last like they used to. So, so disappointing.

I've had so much fun collecting the scents of my childhood, including Exclamation!, Love's Rain Scent, YSL Paris (I've completely gone nuts collecting that one in all it's infinite concentrations, vintages, and flankers). I even started collecting the old Avon's of my youth including what I think was my very first perfume as a 9 or 10 year old, Daises (or something) with the most adorable bottle. And so, so many others. In fact, it was the nostalgia for those old scents that really got me in *deep* with perfume collecting. Sometimes it's not so much the scent itself, but the bottle that really triggers the nostalgia!

Ylang-Ylang is pronounced Yang-Yang, not Ling-Ling. Little trick that French woman used to do during the occupation and war to save their perfume and not use it up too fast because it was impossible to buy was to get as many areas with one spray or a few dabs of the perfume. First they'd spray one wrist or add a little pool with the dabber onto one wrist, dip their fingers into the little pool of fragrance and apply to each pulse point on the neck, dip again, tap nape of neck, collar bones, and hairline. Then tap both wrists together, then cross your wrists to get the backsides of wrist (two taps). They used one big spray or a few dabs on that one wrist and managed to apply it to 10 areas. Even in wartime Frenchwomen smelled wonderful. I know. My mother was one of those women.

Great video. I have a question. I am 41. Once I became an adult and had my own money i went through my empty perfume bottles from my childhood and bought what I could find. Now although I love them, sometimes I feel they are old fashioned. This makes me feel sad because they bring so many memories and smell better and are much stronger than today’s fragrances. Do you ever feel that those perfumes smell like old lady perfumes? Do other people notice that or is it just in our heads? What do you think?

This was a walk down memory lane for me since I was a young adult at the time, and used most of the ones mentioned. So sad that the fashion houses and/or perfume houses reformulate these really advanced and beautiful fragrances. I have the original Opium Perfume in it's beautiful original flacon with jewels and tassels still hanging from it's cork, and the Opium Perfume that they sell today is nothing in comparison. One doesn't even get the vibe from why this perfume became such a hype when it was first launched. Same thing with Dior Poison, such an incredible perfume. Later introduced in all kind of varieties, but never as successful. The true vintage one was introduced in a green round bottle, and was very strong. The original Shalimar from Guerlain was a true gourmand Vanilla. Almost a little too sweet for the faint, but a beautiful scent. What they present today is simply rubbish in comparison. As with so many other well known brands and scents.
Funny you should bring out the Trussardi. I think I bought it because of the rare and "featherlike" bottle, but never liked the scent though. So very strong, and the leather was prominent as I remember it. Thank you for bringing back many of these goodies. Estée Lauder really should bring back some of their gems like e.g. Cinnabar.

    • @SarahMayes

I agree with everything you said. I miss perfumes like these. It makes me so nostalgic for those days. 😊 I so wish the perfume industry would start making fragrances like this again. I love collecting these old vintage bottles though. They make me so happy. Do you know what year I should be looking for to get the gourmand shalimar that you are referring to? I would die to get my hands on a bottle of it. 🙏🏻💗

Estée Lauder has butchered their classics. My signature for decades was Estee. I used to call them and email them over and over, begging them to return her namesake to its original formulation. I finally gave up on them. My mother wore the dupe, which was revlon Moon Drops. Yummy!
I wore opium and cinnabar in the late 70s and early 80s. I moved on to Guerlain since there seems to be more integrity with that house and how they do reformulations. My LOVE is Mitsouko. There’s a note or two in it that reminds me of when I was younger. It is pure comfort for me. I’ve finally learned that my favorites are aldehydes and chypres. Love your channel.

My grandma wore Shisheido Zen in the black bottle and I was able to find a bottle of that a few years ago. My mom wore Emeraude when I was little. Both of these scents bring back memories. I grew up in the ‘80s and love vintage perfumes. My favourites are the original Opium, Amariage, and the original Poison ( I have 2 bottles of Poison like yours). All throughout high school I wore Navy and always asked for it at birthdays and Christmas! I remember Fire and Ice too and I think I had it as well!
