This video was one of my favourites that you have ever done ❤️. I was born in 1980 so this was a walk down memory lane 🥹. I had so many of these perfumes and even now if I smell them it takes me back in time. The 80s and 90s were the best time to be alive. I wish the world could go back to this way of living life was so much more relaxed and carefree ☺️.

Fellow Gen X girl here, I love this list! Exclamation!!! I loved that one so much. I got it in my Christmas stocking in 1988 and I wore that so often . . . if a junior high schooler could have a signature scent that was mine. It reminds me of Guess and Esprit sweatshirts and orthodontist appointments. I also wore Malibu Musk all the time. Skin Musk was my jam, too. All of those scents remind me of White Rain and Miss Clairol hairspray, big perms and claw bangs, blue mascara, Wet and Wild frosted lip gloss, prank calling boys, sleepovers, sneaking out to toilet paper houses . . . sigh, so many memories!

I loved every second of this. 💘I couldn't agree more about the mid life crisis thing. The moment I turned 27 it's like all of a sudden life has hit me across the face and I'm questioning every decision I make. It's definitely a relief knowing other people have battled this too. When I was a kid my mom wore Opium too😍 that was and still is her favorite! She moved on to Chanel Coco Edp after they reformulated Opium. 😊 Unfortunately my teenage years were the highlight of some of the worst perfume releases of all time (i.e. Marc Jacobs Daisy, VS Love Spell, etc). It's so cheesy but the first perfume I ever had was Tatiana by DvF 😂 gifted to me by grandma when I was 7 or 8. DvF also had a store in NY called Tatiana named after her daughter. The scent is not my cup of tea but I will always hold on to it. I had 3 perfume obsessions in high school: the original Ralph Lauren Romance, Angel, and the signature Michael Kors. I could not afford any full bottles of them so I would hoard samples of all of them and just savor it 😂

    • @SarahMayes
      @SarahMayes  Год назад +5

Isn’t that crazy! I guess your 20’s are the new 40’s. I had a much harder time dealing with getting older back then than I do now. Getting older is actually such a blessing. Everything comes into focus and you can see the things that actually matter. I love that you have a bottle of Tatiana! I love the story behind that fragrance and it is fitting that you grandma gave it to you! ❤️🥰🫶

I was just talking to a friend about this. I’ve been wearing perfume since I was about 10 years old. My mother always wore perfume and of course I would sneak into her room and spray myself and loved the way she smelled. I decided last year to collect all the perfumes I wore during each major relationship in my life. The scents I wore with all the men I loved. Just a few are Givenchy Amariage, Prescriptives Calyx and Ralph Lauren Romance 🥰

Oh I loved this thumbnail!! I’m very nostalgic with perfume scents. My Mom was a huge White Shoulders lover and the smell is so comforting to me. I can remember spraying it and using the body powder in the peach square with the beautiful lid! I have so many scent memories, I’m also a little older than you! My first perfume was Elizabeth Arden’s Eau Fraiche, 6th grade! As cheerleader’s and Drill Team we all wore Liz Claiborne in the triangle colored bottles and Lauren. All the guys wore Polo, yikes I can’t stand the smell! I wanted Chanel #5 and I got the EDT every Christmas! Then a lot of girls wore Sand & Sable. Then came Calvin Kleins!! Eternity & Escape! I also have lots of nostalgia with Dior Poison’s, Donna Karan’s, Alfred Sung & Karl Lagerfeld SM&S’s. My gateways into better perfumes was Paloma Picasso,Beautiful and Boucheron early 20’s. Escada’s & Tommy Hilfiger & Cool Water! I wanted to be different! I hate Paloma Picasso now! They all use to be so good! I remember loving Skin Musk by Coty!! My favorite video!!!😊 2:22

Omfgggg I LOVE this. I'm in the same age group as you and I love Muse.
I love remembering all these scents with you. I remember the Revlon fragrances from the 80s with the cindy crawford ads. 😭
My bff's old signature was Tommy Girl before she moved on to Light Blue. That smell takes me right back to our days going to Green Day concerts and getting a brow piercing. Cringe.
Lutece from the 80s is the most nostalgic because it was my mother's signature. :) It was just me & her growing up and I have amazing memories attached to it.
Fragrances that were significant in my life were Sirene, Toujours Moi, the old Warm Vanilla Sugar, Sunflowers, Halston Sheer, Creature d'Anges, Fiorucci (made it my signature in Y2k, ugh the memories, it was the most carefree time in my life, reminds me of one of my first true loves), Origins Ginger, Light Blue, JLo Glow & Love at First Glow (loved mixing them together), Coco Mademoiselle, Paris Hilton, Calgon Hawaiian Ginger body mist, BS Midnight Fantasy. 💞

My mom wore Blue Grass. That's about all i remember her liking. But I remember all of the ones you mentioned!!!
I loved Vanilla Fields, Sunflowers in my early youth. Red Jeans became my first "signature" I really wore the heck out of that.... or rather it wore me 🤦‍♀😅. I went through a heavy phase with Candies, Cool Water obviously and definitely Clinique Happy. Happy made me feel like a million bucks ✨ Adidas made a scent called Moves with a turquois cap...Loved that one. I loved escada's fruity bombs in my 20s like Tropical Punch, Sunset Heat, all those... I couldn't afford much in college so I remember getting a cheap body mist called Morning Glory and then VS made a pear body spray.

Hi Sarah! I remember all those perfumes! I had Exclamation but my love was for Navy! I would ask for it at every Xmas and birthday. I wish I could find it again! I agree that perfume went downhill in the 2000s! Back in the 80s and 90s each perfume was unique and there wasn’t flanker after flanker. What a wonderful memory of your mom and Poison. For me it’s Emeraude that takes me back to my childhood and mom! 💕

I SAT THRU THE WHOLE VIDEO! What a fun video to watch. You truly are the biggest perfume fan, starting at 3 years old! I laugh when I think of you smelling like a grown woman in the 3rd grade! And YES, the 80's were the greatest decade!!! OK so my first perfume memories were kinda funny. I have family that lives in Buenos Aires Argentina and they sent me a bottle of a child's perfume called COQUETERIAS. The bottle was adorable as it looks like a little girl and you take the hat (lid) off to spray it. Well this perfume was HORRIBLE to me, but like a good little girl, I would spray it on before church and just suffer through the massive headaches it would trigger. Oh boy! When my daughter was born they sent her a reformulated bottle and it was just as horrible! I never let her wear it! I didnt really enjoy perfume too much when I was young (im 53) but I did LOVE my bottles of Anais Anais and Lauren. And there was one called Aspen that I loved as well. I took a 20 year break from wearing any fragrance at all, but that all changed during the pandemic. Something in me changed and I am LOVING perfume now! I really enjoy your videos, your passion for fragrance really shines through!

This was such a good stroll down memory lane with these fragrances!! I wish I could get a hold of the original formula of Cinnabar, I wore it in the 80’s. OMG,why are you telling my perfume story?Hahaha! I swear, too many similarities, you have GREAT taste! Rite Aid use to be called Thrifty's! So yessss,I LOVED Poison,Exclamation(it is not as deep and fragrant as the original version),Samba,Tribute,L'Effleur(such a dreamy, beautiful bottle).Escape(To this day! I will ALWAYS have this.)It is true they don't make the fragrances the way they use to back then at all.I really miss smelling all the different beautiful fragrances every where you went. And going to Sak's,Marshall Fields,The Broadway,etc... and spritzing myself with all the beautiful rich, amazing, fragrances I couldn't afford at the time and asking for samples.Drug store perfumes were so beautiful and top quality as well. They use to make such beautiful bottles for all the different fragrances back then also. The original Tiffany's Perfume.Tea Rose,Anne Klien,Anne Klein 2,Versus by Versace.Chloe Narcisse.
    Eternity came out in the late 80'S.Fire&Ice(such a woozy,warm,mmmmm,lovely scent). Issey Miyake,Vanilla Fields,Skin Musk,Malibu Musk, Electric Youth(I wish I could go back in time!),original Angel,I first smelled at Neiman's and fell in love. Lauren,Fendi,Ibtimate Musk,Gio,Acqua di Gio,Romance,Tendre Poison,Girgio,Red,Liz Clairborne,Wild Musk,Gucci Envy,Gucci #2,Guess,Carolina Herrera,Benneton,Samasara,Quel Que Fleurs,Jivago,Calyx,Happy,Love Spell,Heavenly,Poem,Kenzo,Amarige,Organza,Tresor,Lolita Lempicka,first ever perfume from Victoria's Secret:Victoria.Halo,Divine,Crystal Noir,Bill Blass,Paris by YSL(one of the best ever)
Ombre Rose,Magie Noir,Organza.Stells(I weep that I never purchased a bottle of the original)Michael Kors.Alien.Fantasy,Laura Ashley#1,Euphoria(the most deep, beautiful, long lasting scent, omg!),Red Door(original),Sunflower.Ralph Lauren Blue,Vanilla Musk,Jardins De Bagatelle,Be Delicious(will always be one of my favorites),Miss Dior Cherie.Hypnotic Poison,Escada by Margaretha Ley.Le Jardin,Verve,Jessica Mclintock. The list goes on and on...never ending.I'm a Perfumista, but they do not make them how they use to back in the day.We lived in the best decades.Life is beautiful, but how I wish I can travel back in time and scoop up all my old fragrances by the armful and bring them all back with me!

I had to comment again because this video really had me travel down memory lane 🥰
Some fragrances that are nostalgic to me as a fellow gen x’er are:
    Dune - Dior
    Coco - Chanel
Safari - Ralph Laure (like you - I have a tiny sampler left - why did I discard that gorgeous bottle 😭)
Dewberry - The Body Shop (I still have it as well as Fuzzy Peach!)
Gio - Armani (oh how I would love to own this one again too 😢)
    Classique - Jean Paul Gaultier
1881 - Cerruti (repurchased a year ago but sadly the reformulation is not as good 😢)
    Happy - Clinique
Theorama - Fendi - I still have a teeny bit left!
Le Tigre - Kenzo (I still have a small amount 🙏🏻)

Aw I love these types of videos. 💖 I just watched Veronica Says talk about her nostalgic perfumes. 💖 There is a reason these videos are so popular, we all like to remember beautiful things of the past. ❤Your memory of Poison with your Mom is heart-warming and made me smile.
I was born in 1980. Like you, I have been a life-long perfume addict. 😊 First bottles...Baby Soft, Tribe and Malibu Musk as a wrapped Xmas gift and my older sister had Beverly Hills 90210 amongst a boatload of other scents. My sister still wears Amarige 💛- it is classic. I did not like Navy either, I remember those magazine ads, and I had Exclamation but I barely used it. Eternity was my (and my twin sister's) biggest obsession. That stuff was inescapable in the 90's! I probably wore Eternity for a solid 6 years. I still whip it out now and then but it's not nearly as special as it once was.
I was obsessed with sporty aquatics in college. Cool Water, Sunflowers, some of the Body Shop oils like Juba or White Muk, DKNY Women, CK1, Alyssa Ashley Green Tea Essence or the plain Alyssa Ashley Musk was also divine, Ghost, & Clinique Happy, iconic! Post-college I was wearing Light Blue, L'eau d'Issey, Ocean Dream, or Be Delicious. I couldn't stand Cashmere Mist because that smell was overbearingly strong coupled with the fact that I was working at a massage parlor at the time and my coworker used to come in drenched in Cashmere Mist...big headache inducer🥴! 👎
When you held up the bottle of Miss Dior Cherie that brought me happy tears!💖 I remember it in stores while shopping with my Mom & sisters over Christmas in NY 2006. Amazing Grace was my jam during my 30s and became a signature for a while. My 30s were rocky, I was divorced alone and binge-eating, thus I've kept Amazing Grace in the past.💖

What a fantastic video!!! Great storytelling. Really was transported into another era. Yeah, there was once a time where it was all about having a signature scent. I had a few of those, wearing a perfume til the last drop. Nowadays, I would not be able to. In need of a constant change. I have a semi-vintage poison formulation from 2004. I find it so comforting and luscious!
P.S. I have not smelled Exclamation in forever! It was so good! That and Vanilla Fields were amazing! Navy was my jam! I also liked Coty's Ici! How crazy it is that you could find fragrances of such caliber at drug stores?

It's so funny how fragrance can unlock memories! I recently bought a new bottle of Vanilla Fields because I wore that when it came out, and as soon as I sprayed it and smelled it, the first memory that came to me was "Jurassic Park" lol. I must have been wearing it when I went to see that movie! I worked in a drug store back then so I remember either buying a lot of the perfumes out at that time, or spraying the testers on myself daily. I miss those simpler times for sure! I was also lucky enough to recently find an original bottle of Electric Youth tucked away in my bathroom cabinet. My mom sent it to me maybe 15 years ago for Christmas as a nostalgic gift. I think she got it on Ebay. I was sure I got rid of it when we moved awhile ago, so it was a nice surprise to find it. I'm mad at myself for getting rid of some of my other older perfumes when we moved, but I'm sure the ones I tossed had gone off and didn't smell good anymore.

Oh, man, I forgot about those cans of Malibu Musk! I loved that stuff when I was a kid. Sand and Sable is nostalgic to me because my mom wore it a lot when I was very young. My very first fragrance, before Malibu Musk, was a Strawberry Shortcake solid perfume that was housed inside a Strawberry Shortcake brooch. I was obsessed with it. 😂 In middle school I wore Vanilla Fields. In high school, it was all Cool Water, CK One, CK Be, or pear glacé body spray from Victoria’s Secret. 😂 We must be pretty close to the same age.

Haha Such a wonderful blast from the past. I am here for it ❣I started wearing perfumes when I was 11 and my dad did not approve and told me to take it off. My mom and grandma would say "Let it go! It's just perfume!" but I completely understand where he was coming from now that I'm a mom of 2 daughters. My go to's were any Victoria Secret scents... I guess in my head I thought if you wore Victoria Secret that meant you were grown and sexy! LOL... I had Body, I had every vanilla scent they made... I had the Pink perfume that came in that cylinder polka dot case... I had Glow by JLo for a short period and some Gap ones. :) My mom never wore stuff until later in life. She loved original Classique by JPG, Amarige, and L'eau d'Issey.

I'll mention the ones I also loved that you didn't mention: Babysoft, Fresh Lemon, Liz Sport, Gap Grass, Vanilla Musk, Incognito, Ciara, Anais Anais, DNA, Body Shop White Musk and Spirit of Moonflower, Estee Lauder Beautiful, VS Pretty in Pink, VS Rapture, Revlon Flair, Gucci Rush, Midnight Fantasy, Lancome Miracle, Gucci I and II. Hello......I came across your channel this morning....and I'm so glad I did! This was the best video I've seen in....forever..
I was born in 1949, soon to be 74. My mother wore Windsong by Prince Machiabelli. After watching this, I found and bought a bottle. Even if I don't wear it, I'll smell it.... and remember....
My first perfume was a bottle of Chantilly by Dana that my grandmother gave me when I was 12. I still have that empty bottle! In my mid teens l wore Ambush, also by Dana. I moved on to Emeraude by Coty and Yardley April Violets in my late teens. In my 20s I wore Youth Dew bath oil as fragrance, Tigress, Woodhue, Aphrodesia, and Babe (all by Faberge)..
Then came Opium when I was 28! I nearly fainted with pleasure the first time l sniffed Opium! I wore Opium, Obsession, Poison, and Hypnotic Poison, consistently until 5 years ago.......I was tired of everything! I didn't mention the few I tried over the years that didn't 'stick'.
I actually started wearing Timeless by Avon, and Frankincense and Myrrh Fragrance Oil from Indigo Wild. This past April, my passion was reignited. I started with Angels Share by Killian.........and fell down a rabbit hole with no bottom! 😂😂😂😂
I hope I haven't bored you to death.....
I loved this video so much!
    P.S.......I'm subscribed..😊

My mom loved Anais anais, 1990's VS Victoria, Burberry Society, and L'eau d'Issey.
I wore the Strawberry, White Musk, Juba, & Satsuma oils from the body shop.
I liked Yves Rocher "Apricot " Edt.
Naomi Campbell's Naomagic (she did bomb scents),
Maybe Baby, Bruno Banani, Be Delicious, Guess and Burberry Brit in the early 2000's.
When Bombshell hit the market I wore that a lot.

When I was young, perfumes were very expensive and not very available (we didn't have those cheaper drugstore oneslike in the US), so I got perfumes when my parents bought them from abroad or the duty free and also got those Minnie ones from the sets. My mom was always modern, so she wore newer scents and we have different taste so I didn't like most of them 😆 my favorite of hers was definitely Poeme - love it !

Scent memory is a powerful thing. I've been a fan of fragrance since childhood. I've known the smell of Opium my whole life b/c it was my mom's best friend's signature. She basically became like family to us. I can't smell it without picturing her in her colorful outfits and fresh-faced makeup and wicked sense of humor. She was a queen in my eyes. I definitely have bottles of the original and pure parfum. My mother was a Tabu and Halston fan and later Obsession fan. My first memories were wearing Exclamation, Lou Lou, Obsession, and a Yves Rocher called Venice which I have several backups of. Loved the fragrances during this time they were full of fire. Wish I could go back just to relive them again. All the scents I wore fell into the Oriental category. During the 90's I still wore Venice and Obsession but also delved into other fragrances like Guess, Tocade, Dana Navy, Skinmusk, a range of woody incensey oils from indie shops. An oldie that I never hear anyone mention is Le Feu d'Issey an absolute head-turner. I confess that I never really was a fan of Angel until the 2000s. Thank you so very much for this video beautiful Sarah 🙏
