The Last Flight map were tiles from Xeno Dead Zone which is available on DriveThruRPG or the Runehammer Patreon. The Doomvault maps were just cards from the Index Card Volumes, also available on DriveThruRPG. Then the Orvald's Tower maps were all made from 2 Minute Table Top assets and so I'd have to make sure if I can share those. Then the pregens, I pull stuff from Heroes of the Hammer and the ICRPG books so I'd need to verify if those are good to share too, en masse. They are fairly easy to put together and could be customized for your own games if you weren't playing one of these three adventures.

    Wait, four characters from six classes and really simple stats … is each one of the characters carrying an ORB by chance? 😁
    Y'know, it's really easy to get a basic set of dice from any number of brands on e.g. Amazon … but something we really could benefit from as a gaming hobby is ready made multicolor dice. Koplow has such a set in its catalog, but nobody seems to carry it and it's just 7 dice. You need about twice that number to have a "basic set of dice" for efficient low-level play.
    Such a basic set needs to be _common_ ideally standardized, and ideally every player should have a set (DM's maybe a couple of sets) so that new players can literally just sit down and borrow them to play, having no background. Ideally Koplow and Chessex and perhaps other brands would make the same colorway "basic set". Unrealistically, the dollar store dice should be in that colorway as well … for the price you're only getting 7 dice, but grab 4 sets and for $5 you have all the dice you need* for your first several levels.
    * Yes, we know you actually need crates and crates full of dice.
    I'm not saying that's how dice should be done from now on, just that a starter set of predictable color dice should be the default until you start picking up bags of holding and sets that match your personality.
    My fiancée loves that you set out character images. She doesn't play, doesn't know if she wants to play, and would feel overwhelmed by choices and stats to start. "I want that one," she can do.

    • @KanesKiln
      @KanesKiln  2 года назад

      Not sure I caught the ORB reference but I do agree with the color coded dice set. I didn't end up needed them at this particular convention, but whenever I've played with some of my family, having the colored dice has really helped because they don't play as often. Really simple to implement at the home table.
      And glad your fiancée likes the image idea! I found it worked really well. The image helps draw people's interest in and then I can explain specific mechanics that apply to them instead of all the mechanics and hope they remember. Really recommend!

    • @knghtbrd
      @knghtbrd 2 года назад

      @@KanesKiln Final Fantasy 1, the one that was actually kind of D&D inspired, had four Light Warriors chosen from six classes… A fighter, a thief (who can't steal lol), a black-belt, and black/white/red mages.
      White mages are basically clerics (no religion in NES-era Nintendo games!) Black mages are the arcane magic users, Moldvay-style, so they die if you look at them cross-eyed. Red mages are … 2/3 of 5e characters. 😉 Look, it uses swords, wears armor, casts both arcane and divine spells … but not all of any of the above for the sake of game balance. Unlike 5e players who've got all of that and darkvision too! 😝
      (I think my inner grognard is showing just a little bit…)
      So: How do we go about getting the dice companies to start selling a "basic set" of color coded dice in a given quantity? Koplow already makes them, but needs to put more things in a given set. D&D players and polyhedral dice are a side gig for them, though. Chessex are the ones we really gotta win over.
      And what is a realistic "basic set" exactly? 4d6 is obvious and we've got d% in the typical set of 7… We need a second d4 I think …
