yes, I have been doing this for a while now. I went a step farther and simplified it more for my young, 6-10 yr, kids. They have a blast and love it. We saved Xmas from Krampus this year. I combine Shadowdark, IRPG, and D&D.

I love this form of distance I have used this over grid based . Where grid based makes sense for precision, it fails in fun. Distance can be described in this way to allow the flow of the game to continue on with more narrative than simply rolling a die and moving your character you are approaching and using your imagination... Your mileage may vary but I tend to lean on this one a lot more.

does anyone know where i can find mastery lists for ghost mountain ? i have the core book but i cant seem to find anything about it

for a lot of these ideas, my mind kept going back to tarot cards - maybe with the many ideas and intentional abstraction in the minor arcana, they could be a great stand-in for these kinds of tricks!

0:30 "advantage and disadvantage... ICRPG does not include this mechanic." JUST SO WE'RE CLEAR, I hope you're not proposing to add dis/advantage to ICRPG. ICRPG has Easy / Hard instead of Dis/advantage, and is a major reason why I like ICRPG. Dis/advantage is NOT the same as adding a flat bonus or penalty to a roll. Easy / Hard means you are still using the linear distribution of rolling 1 die, and so even if a roll is hard, you still have a 5% chance to roll a nat 20 and succeed. Dis/advantage on the other hand swaps a linear distribution for a bell curve, and so disadvantage means you have a 0.25% chance to roll a nat 20. In keeping with the logic and style of ICRPG, I would treat Big and Small effort as just adding a flat bonus or penalty in the same style as Easy / Hard adds a flat bonus or penalty to the target.

the more I study shadowdark, the more it proves to be THE universal system. 5e compatible. osr compatible. borg compatible. one could even use shadwodark for a Death In Space game quite easily. i love that it keeps a distinct race, class, and background with d&d ability scores, but is still low-power and rules-light. compatible af.

Thanks for the video. Love printing my pdfs. Im old enough to remember the original little books and this gives the same vibes. I like to use a manila paper because of the first OD&D books were like that. I really prefer just to sew them. They hold pretty well, better than a staple in my experience. There are a few youtube that show you the "saddlestitch" method. I just use a small nail as a punch and regular needle with tan thread (again the OD&D vibe). There may be a more professional way. I also tend to use a pdf modification program to remove the pages of art, just to save ink. Sometimes I print important charts etc on the inside covers if the game doesn't do this already, although this takes some time to move the appropriate pages or cut and paste the charts and create a new page for them. Im usually too lazy to cut them and I don't have the large paper cutter. I like to make notes or at least asterisks in the borders for important stuff anyway.

I really love this idea. I've been trying to find a way to have checks matter more so was thinking about adding a d6 or something but didn't quite have my head wrapped around it. Totally going to use this. Roll 3+ over the target and roll Big Effort. Heck I might even have 1 under target be small effort just to give more chances to keep things moving.

What is ICRPG ?

The way locks work, just because you can set some of the pins correctly inside doesn’t mean you can set them all. You could set all but one pin and the lock would stay locked. So being pedantic, the lock example doesn’t work.

I generallly print my PDFs as A5, but damn is it difficult to line the pages up, and cut the white space off. I have a paper cutter, but lining it up is damn near impossible cause it's not a guillotine, but rather rolls the blade over the paper.

What happened to the book ICRPG: Magic? I can't even find it in .pdf anywhere.

I had bad luck with rubber cement in the long run. I made some for 6mm Robotech. I had to put it up for awhile. After a 3-6 months I went to get it out and it had failed. I did the both sides like you're supposed. Didn't know if it was the humid area where I live. For other similar stuff, I usually make a rame with corrugated and hto glue then use pva to put the printed paper on.

What a cool idea!

Lots of Unlimited-Roll-to-Cast-Magic games I've seen inflict some kind of mishap on a failed roll, or prevent you from casting that same spell again until you recover somehow. Does no version of ICRPG do this? That shocks me! I guess the closest is Spellburn, but it looks that only happens if you even choose to do it, and the spell will always be burnt. Sidenote, which edition has your favorite version of the magic system? EDIT: Question about Magic Items when using HP or SP systems! Do you still expend HP/SP when using a Magic Item? Thanks!
