    This is a great tip, I like how it uses the dying mechanic for how long you can hold on! Might have to implement this for other instances where the danger really is lethal, and not really dependent on game mechanics, like getting spaced, drowning, being immolated… awesome stuff

      Thanks and I like the way you’re thinking. Taking the focus away from just how much damage you might take and into those suspense filled moments would make those situations so much more exciting.

      @@KanesKiln heck yeah it would!! The funny gotchas most games have where the mechanics don’t line up with expectations, this would solve a lot of those, and make it exciting too since it is technically a game mechanic

      You can also use the "MORE or LESS" timer rules for that too. Poison? You have MORE 1d4 time to get an antidote. Fell into white water rapid and should be dead from drowning you have LESS 1d4 time to struggle to shore@@KanesKiln

    I seem to have fallen down a cliff, I am still alive but I am very badly injured.
    I think my legs might be broken, but I'll try to stand up; 'crack' GEEEAWWW, yes, they are broken!
    Perhaps you can toss me a band-aid or some anti-bacterial cream?
    I am an extraordinarily large amount of pain.....

    Post watching, your method is essentially the same as i thought was going to be used. your version of it is more forgiving as you give them 1 hand = Str check to get themselves out before the 1 finger death saves.
    Very nice :)

    Pre-watching thoughts I had on the topic.
    If you are knocked/falling an X amount of distance... PC takes X effort of falling damage. You can mod the effort dice using BIG EFFORT if unexpectedly falling, SMALL if the Fall "Intended" and they passed the saving throw ... like dropping from the roof of a building for a chase/parkour scene... NORMAL EFFORT if the stunt intended but they failed the saving throw.
    Close = 1d4 Basic (like knocked prone)
    Near = 1d6 Weapon (like 1 story building)
    Far= 1d12 Ultimate (2 story building)
    Very far= 2d12 or d20 (3-4 story building, almost certain death)
    > Very far = Certain death (>5 story building) consider using "hanging by a thread" below.
    Before a character falls off a cliff or fails a plausible leap of faith. Consider if it makes sense to do "hanging by a hand" death saving throws. This rule was from Runahmmers Livestream adventure he made about "TIME".
    Basically if you are "hanging by a hand" you will fall in 1d4 TIME and you must have a party member STR saving throw to save you or get a Nat 20 yourself on your turn, just like falling to 0 HP (but when you are saved you retain your remaining HP because you technically didn't fall yet)

    I'll admit, at first I was sceptical - how many chances at saving yourself do you need? This isn't 5e!.... But Indy sold it to me.
