I posted this as a reply to someone who said the fact that there are black people in these roles is historically inaccurate - Well you're wrong actually, this seems accurate to me. There were many black air raid wardens during www2, and fire wardens and other roles. There were hundreds, this is all factual and all documented. At 0:52, Ronan's character is addressing a sea of white people. Again, looks factual as black people were very marginalised back then, probably not allowed in whatever that gathering is (I don't know what the gathering is, haven't seen the movie). The real question should be - why were black people not included in these types of movies until recently? I can understand people speaking out at a black person playing the king of Belgium or a white person playing the ruler of some ancient Chinese dynasty. Fair enough but in the case of the film here, nothing like that is happening, the right people are in the right roles and black people are getting the representation they deserve and actually lived.
Nice to see you’ve backed all this up with absolutely nothing concrete. So it’s no more than opinion. To which, I will simply say, you’re wrong. Because I said so. Though I have census’, first hand accounts and decades of non-DEI documentaries to support what I said.

There was a famous Black ARP Warden called Ita Ekpenyon in london during the war. So the film is factually accurate. He had come to UK in the 1930s to study law and when war was declated, being too old to actively fight he joined the ARP.
When he was asked whether he experienced racism as an air raid warden, he said that EastEnders became very superstitious during the blitz as survival became a game of chance - a lot of people saw him as a sign of good luck and he just sort of went along with it. I read his diary years ago when I was doing my dissertation, he seemed like a top bloke, great sense of humour 👍
I went to Durham to ‘study law’.. my heart raced as I headed to the university then my dream came crashing down around me as I suddenly realised.. I’m a welder not a law student, so I went on the piss instead.🤓

London had a population of about 9 million people during the Blitz. I'm sure they all had very different experiences especially in the memories of children. Also it's a story that McQueen wrote, it's not a documentary so maybe just try and enjoy the story for what it is.
@ McQueen is the same same that come out and called Hollywood racist because they have made too many ww2 and holocaust movies rather than slavery films. If you read more about McQueen you’ll realise that he has a very strong political agenda within his work. I would rather watch a realistic film about the blitz rather then this mans fantasy.
There seems to be a deep, collective misrepresentation of history in these comments. There seems to be a suggestion that it is inaccurate to see black and mixed heritage people in the 1940s? There has been a black population in the UK for centuries, long before Windrush. The idea that you would not see a black face or mixed heritage children in the 1940s, in LONDON of all places is completely inaccurate, and I'm afraid to say that suggesting so is racist.
