this quote is from another person, but yeah, these grapples are usually used on weapon-equipped persons as they are not ready to give up their weapon to free their hands from the grapple thus making advantages for the grappler, it doesn't mean knowing this will make you win or survive a weapon attack, I am just saying that it may help a little. A Monk who has trained wing chun for many years gives a demonstration of some moves to a willing participant in a very calm and controlled manner so you can easily see what's happening. People in the comments 'doesn't work, any high school wrestler could beat him up...'
Whats wrong with just respecting the culture and enjoying the demonstration??
I agree
@@middleagedjoe8796 in no way ths could be considered a martial art who in the world would punch you only once
Maybe this monk is a monster (he could probably be, since they train so hard) but the techniques he shows off are really sloppy and unreal. They could only work with a cooperative partner or a weak opponent.
Personally i have nothing against oriental martial arts (i did Karate for many years and i love this culture).
The thing i hate, like most of people who do combat sports, is that these guys show these things off like super effective techniques in a real fight. They are not, and every person who had some fight experience knows that.
I think nobody would complain if they say "hey, these are just some choreographyc moves for practicing contact and balance".
@Tim Grady I agree. Buy a gun. Go to the range. Practice, practice, practice.
@Tim Grady why then does John Jones use plenty techniques from this "bullshido." and win all the fights over the past 10 years in ufc. Same leg kicks with the same timings like in this video. Ofcourse not all of this is working for everyone and in every situation. We all know any amaterur mma fighter will smash even higher level boxer in mma or street fight simply because they cant defend takedowns or deal with leg kicks, so what ??

@Mark Norton kung fu monks were warriors too..i think u taking them too lightly
@Mark Norton is it true?
@Mark Norton correction bro , he challenged all “fake master” . He didn’t go to challenge real master because his mission is to expose all ‘fake master’ only
No, bro. Shiaolin Monks are not and never were warriors.
They are the Chinese equivalent of revival-tent faith healers combined with circus acrobats.
They are incredible athletes and perform fears of physical endurance to show everyone how "Holy" they are and draw attention to their faith.
But they don't train to fight. They do not spar against capable and aggressive opponents.
Just because you can break a board with your elbow doesn't mean that you can land that elbow on someone who is actively trying to stop you, and also trying to hurt you. Those are two completely different things.
Put one of these Monks in a kick-boxing ring, a wrestling mat, or the Octagon, and they will get eaten alive.
And they are aware of this. That is why none have ever brought their magical kung fu into a real combat sport.
@Mark Norton there is a difference b/ w real master and fake master.
Haven't seen some of these moves since I was a kid!! This video is Priceless!!
Thanks for this one!!
I mean he’s obviously just having fun lol but imagine him actually trying or if he’s in an actual fight. I’d pay money to see that.
I met a guy whose sifu was the brother of Ip Man who was Bruce Lee's teacher. The guy I met was small. He gave demos once in a while. He said he has only had to use his skills twice in his life. Each time it was a bigger guy trying to bull rush him. Each time he had simply did a quick snap kick into their groin to take them out of the fight. He was a humble guy. He acted like he was almost afraid of other people. I noticed one thing about him. For someone who weighed maybe 120 lbs I found that he was difficult to push around. I weigh at the time almost 180 lbs @ 6-1.

Wrong. Some of us are wizards and airbenders...
Sergio Batista They act as if there art is beautiful and superme when it’s just smash and bash and whoever is heavier and faster wins and can tolerate more punishment. I have respect for mma guys what they do can definitely work but wing Chun definitely works as well if applied correctly. The reason it’s not seen to apply properly is because some wing Chun people don’t train under pressure and when they fight they become scared and sloppy. I find that if I haven’t trained for a while and go under pressure the same happens, you forget all of your techniques and become instinctual. The benifet of mma is a lot of it is basic which means under pressure it is easier to remember.

Love watching these young men get the shit kicked out of them and this is slow speed! Awesome opportunity y’all had! Great video
Love this style full of common science and energy conservation, its so smooth and flows like water.
This is one of the most beautiful and cleanest style of fighting. I love how much work and effort they put in it. Even a small change of the place where he kicks him makes the difference between him staying straight or going down and being rotated. Fascinating. One small, quick, not hurting kick but you clearly feel it. The precision is just on point.
Wing chun an amazing martial art
It's not fighting, it's more like dancing. None of this shit works in real life for self defense.
@@Iampatrix You're partially correct; Wing Chun doesn't defend. Instead it only parries or counters. They have familiar "reference points" (common scenarios in a typical fight that they practice a ton, like a straight punch to the face) that they can counter very efficiently into various kinds of "trappings" where your limps and movements are partially obstructed. This monk in particular likes to twist people's bodies into uncomfortable positions, but there is a lot more to it than that.
@@Iampatrix Yes it does. I've personally used it. It's more effective if you are big and strong, instead of small. Some smaller guys can be overpowered or are unable to handle the bigger guy's weight. If you are 6'4" tall and 290 pounds, and training to be a Strongman/powerlifter. You possess the weight and strength to deflect punches and toss 200 pounders to the ground like that. Men that size might as well be children. They don't weigh enough to be able to resist effectively.
@@jonathancummings6400 if it was an effective martial art it would be prominent in mma, it's not. This is something that's been tested over and over and, while it's a beautiful art form, it loses every single time. Are there some movements and practices that can be beneficial, sure, but on its own it's almost useless. Masters of wing Chun have been beaten by amateur mma fighters and I don't believe you've used it yourself to any real world effect. As someone that is biracial Chinese that passes for white I've noticed it's mainly white folk that create this mythos around Asian martial arts and its nonsense. It's been tested and it just doesn't work against anyone with even rudimentary skills. There's a reason street fighters dominated much of early mma, because they were actually fighters while traditional martial artists were people who memorized a fancy dance and only sparred with very strict guidelines about what was allowed.
Maaaan ... alotta people here don't seem to understand the concept of a demonstration ..
Well said, I have already commented.
Yes, because this presentation is like shooting without a gun. It´s slow and funny, wow. You should have seen my teacher's presentation as he was fighting blindfolded on a 2-meter-high stage or his teacher’s presentation. My teacher had a swollen face and a blue ear. He couldn't move his hand and had to stay home from work. It was a really great presentation. This is... funny I guess?
The concept of bullshit you mean? 😂
I enjoy the art side of this, however, I have yet to see a plethora of any sort of evidence of this working as a defensive or counteroffensive art. Send a link of more than 10 times it has worked. Just by the way, I practice Filipino martial arts like Kali and Silat and I have to understand that some of what they teach is more art than martial. We should keep our minds open and rational as we decide how we will defend ourselves and other. Also t best form of self defense is a gun hands down.
"Alotta" people here don't seem to understand the concept of pressure testing (punching/striking for real). Of course one should let the monk demonstrate his art, but how is one to call it martial if the other guys are super compliant with him?
Loved this! Pure excellence!

Most comments are mainly complaints that it's slow and all these guys do is demos and it's not real. These guys don't have to fight. It's about being a better you and avoiding the fight but when the time comes you can defend. Not everything has to be a fight to prove one's self.
Get rid of pride and judgement and bring in a little bit of humble.
What a fantastic perspective, I agree!
Its not that, i mean you are not wrong, what you said is right and i know what the video is trying to potray. But right now Kung Fu has a bad rep because a lot of these "Kung Fu" masters will pick fights with MMA and muay thie fighters, but despite offering the challenging they will only fight under strict terms and rules that hinder the other fighters performance. Despite the advantage they will still lose MISERABLY and go on to complain about it and talk down to the fighter they lost against.
So even though this video is not any of that, this is what the current view people have on kung fu
@@AmbroseBoaBowie I agree with what you say but that is the Kung Fu that is portrayed on social media. Even this video does not show true essence of Kung Fu. Also remember that videos on RUclips and certain news channels are not always the truth. Just because a video surfaces showing someone claiming to be a real monk or Kung Fu master fighting someone else does not mean they are a real Kung Fu master. Those videos are misleading. Real monks and Kung Fu masters do not complain about the loss of anything and will say and know that even a so called loss is a gain in knowledge, growth and also to be humbling. Just speaking from experience and knowledge myself. This whole MMA thing in media has gone way too far and has defaced true martial arts masters. UFC and others alike have made it into something that supposedly proves who the man is and they act very badly but true martial arts is not needing to be the bigger man and just respecting the other no matter what. That's also human nature these days as well.... Always wanting more attention. MMA community has become a bully which the last time I looked being a bully meant that you had something to prove and that in what you prove in being a bully means that you always need the attention. Kind of like being a toddler or a new born. True martial arts is something to better a person and not for money and fame.
@@realist7934 see here is the thing about that bully statement. I get what you mean and i know how it looks at first glance, but being an MMA fighter my self, watching many Joe Rogan podcasts, and talking to other MMA fighters, we all have personal beef with kung fu in person. I mean im sure quite a few people in this comment section are just jumping on the band wagon of the Kung Fu hate train, but from personal experince in diffrent situations, we have very negative first hand experiences with kung fu. A friend invited me to is Wing Chung class, they quoted movies, did No sparing, and would not shut up about theroy. Now i know, i know it was a McDojo. But i have friends who have much worse experience with these people. Even Xu Xiaudong isnt Anti Kung Fu, he is looking to expose fake martail arts.
The soule reason im here in the comment thread of youtube is not to souily rip Kung Fu a new one verbally, but hoping some one who knows nothing about martial arts can read the comments, look deeper into the arguments thst go on, and hopfully pick up a ligit martial art.
@@AmbroseBoaBowie I don't think you wanna rip any of it apart. Just giving my opinion. I'm mixed martial arts as well. I just have a different view. Nice to see also that no one is attacking me with what I said. All good.

The lesson I learned is when fighting someone who practices Wing Chun, always wear a groin protector. The little slap of the light kicks to his inner thigh made me cringe at the idea of even a mild tap like that being a couple inches higher / to the side.
@Mark Norton but that groin kick can
@Mark Norton no style works in real fights unless from the day you joined you fight every day, not just onece a day but many fights every day, you must have a teacher that specializes in combat science or you will never learn to fight, 99.9% of all styles are wattered down they focus on forms and many promote depending on how many forms you know, they will never learn to fight in a million years lol
@Mark Norton Of course it'll work especially to an untrained fighter. A guy who trained for decades will have muscle and reaction memory to counter whatever an untrained guy will do.
Now, if the other guy is a trained martial artist too, it'll be then be the better guy or the one who'll get in a disabling hit first who'll win.
Most if not all martial arts is meant to be with an ungloved hand, because they use it to grapple, hold, poke, grip, etc. If you encase it with a glove, it'll probably affect their effectivity to more than half-fold. That's why kung fu practitioners in MMA matches seem awkward, they are reduced to being boxers and can't really do all the arsenal they have. Real fights with no holds bared is really what will tell who is the better fighter.
@@rap3208 except WC does not have real grappling techniques, and MMA does. You people are like flat earthers, you will always find BS excuses to why WC does not work.

I appreciate taking things slow in demonstrations like this. It's a good way of letting the viewer and receiver examine how the techniques work, without anyone getting hurt. Some of those intercepting strikes would not be fun at speed, like those kicks to the kidney, the kick to the front of the knee, or getting thrown down and bouncing the back of your head off the ground. At least when you get tossed down slow like this, you can control your neck and head and be caught by the thrower.
Damn.you guys are lucky. You're learning from a true master.🙏..respect..
I want to learn Wing Chun so badly. It's a beautiful martial art. I know taekwondo and brazilian jui jitsu, but I want to add a couple other styles. The smartest fighters learn as many styles as they can.

@@No-cs2xf Thank you for the encouragement. I promise to never give up.
Brazilian jiu-jitsu is incredibly effective on the ground and taekwondo is like ketchup, pretty bad by itself but can be amazing when paired with other things. Why wing chun tho? It's absolutely useless, watch the Xu Xiaodong videos and Chinese M.M.A fighters who have made it their mission to once and for all put the final nail in the wing chun coffin. Lethwei or muay Thai are better standing options imo, wish you the best with whatever you choose though.

Lee Time ah yes. Oblique kicks and him literally swatting air is Wing Chun. Sure bud. You know what he mainly uses? Boxing and Muay Thai, every single KO of his is from a boxing combo or Knees.

I can’t speak for the effectiveness in real combat but if I’m a street fighter and you know Wing Chung! I will probably get my butt kicked because your whole body becomes a weapon and I’m just swinging my fist at you!
This place look like incredible for sport. Motivation is high. :-)
This is a temple
@muay thug sure thing an art used to kill is deluded go fight him then
@muay thug fuck you you don't even know anything about this art. Any mediocre master could beat the uneducated shit out of you
@@fernandosalazar730 thank you
muay thug That guy would beat the living shit out of you.
Super technique! Love Shaolin
Amazing shaolin master!
I love all these martial arts experts in the comments
speaking as Chinese, if Chinese kung fu really works, we should have at least one ufc champion from China......What we saw so far is a MMA fighter called Xu Xiaodong kicked all the kung fu master's ass....
@@hangminghe8383 yeah ive seen the videos....
I think that wing chun can be useful and could be deadly
Put one of these warrior monks in a ring and they will beat anyone ass in minutes

Hangming He well China is a communist country so I doubt they would allow a fighter to come to the states and possibly exile themselves from China.
It’s called wing Chun in Chinese. If u watch ip Man U would know
Love the master’s sound effects 😂
*shauu*
*shorrh*
He is teaching as he demonstrates. "shauu"/"shorrh" means hand. He's telling the student where the hand goes.
Shou, zai zher li ni de shou
Means : hands, over here your hands( in literal)
The monk was just so ready like' yaa go ahead 😄😄😄
Thanks for sharing
Amazing to watch them, for them to share their experiences and insane levels of skill was fantastic to see! If iwas 18-24 again,im 54 and severely disabled to go to China andhave a chance to be taught, it would have probably changed my whole life for the better
Monks are so dope I wanna visit this place😭❤️🔥
Insane technique very helpful in self defense combat.bless u
Love this, awesome
I was in class when I got this notification and couldn't watch till I got home. Very exited to finally see this video.
What an absolute beast. You are a true Philosopher!!! I hope you enjoyed it!
I just love the casual competence that guy had. His technique is so smooth! Years and years of hard work!
2:48 Bane like, "Do you feel in charge?"
these while guys are very humble and open minded to learn ,they are great masters to be.
Hater:Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face
Master: True, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't have a plan
Haters I just don't need it
master: "Everyone is a Keyboard Fighter until they get punched in the testicles"
This was the best comment ive seen
Incorrect that would assume keyboard fighters have a pair

NOT THE TESTICLES
Great video! Love Wing Chun Wednesday! I'll be starting my Wing Chun training myself soon with Grand Master Swift.
Thank you for enjoying the show! That sounds amazing - have fun and be safe!
@@smartresearchwingchun494 I cannot accept that as true. Unless you are just out to make money - which I believe you are. I have watched your videos and need to ask which lineage your system stems from because you Chi Sau was weak and looked like Pushing Hands (That is from TaiChiQuan). I do not think you would last long against an authentic WC Sifu. Be honest and learn from Authentic Sifus.
@@smartresearchwingchun494 people claiming to have 'the real wing chun" is what gave this art a bad reputation in the first place. They issues challenge fights in the old days, to prove their legitimacy. Either do that, or let others train "wrong" and be humble in the knowledge that you are on the correct path. Otherwise, you're just adding more bluster to the heap.
@@smartresearchwingchun494 you are just advertising. Science means testing your theories, which I have done in dozens of wing chun classes and in MMA. But I prefer to let the kung fu do the talking, rather than make baseless claims on social media. Have a nice day
@@smartresearchwingchun494 I've heard that many times before - from bs lineages that lose and make excuses like "my trigrams weren't aligned properly", or whatever. The key to evolving wing chun for the present isn't going into the ancient past. Keep the principles intact, and an open mind to all other possibilities. Absorb, learn and adapt to how real people fight in the real world. This is how to use a simple system in unlimited application. I'm not paying for your course, but would love to witness your method in real life. If you have anyone in the Pacific Northwest, please send them my way. As friends, of course.
Thats real martial artists, strong, fast and yet, kind, humble
