Yeah, as a introvert I have to appreciate the fact that he does this in front of not only a studio audience but what he has to know is several million people. That HAS to be amazingly challenging, intimidating, I'm certain it was 'discussed' prior but still, thats got to be a jolt before and after. Where you need reassurance and validation.

Yeah for sure.... you can almost hear a child-like giggle within him .....but to be fair so did I. It was like watching you're own imagination coming to life. That thrill you had the 1st time you read "The Hobbit" or the LOTR books, at least for me and what was transpiring in my life at the time as a young adult. I was 10-14yrs old, now 57, reading those books. And it still amazes me now, as an adult how my flashbacks of those summers, and what was happening at that time come just RUSHING back to life. As I hear the voices I PERSONALLY created w/in my mind come to life.

Mr. Serkis, our first unit for back-in-person school was to listen and read along with your reading of The Hobbit. What a delight! What a catharsis! You have completely enthralled a new generation into Middle Earth, Tolkien and the Art of Storytelling. Most surprising for me: They absolutely loved all the Dwarves songs...and sang along! Thank you for this gift.

That was a moment of pure joy for Stephen. Usually they sort these things out and what people will do and talk about in the pre-interview before the guest even gets to the studio. I have a feeling that Andy came in either with the prop or got it from backstage and told them to give it to Stephen but not say anything about what would happen. They all know, the cast of LoTR know how big a fan he is and they always do something extra. I feel like Stephen forgot he was an adult hosting a late night show with an audience watching on and for just a moment he was transported back to being a kid again and reading these books that mean so much to him. It was like he didn't know what to do with himself. Such a beautiful moment. I think I got something in my eye while watching it. I may be reading too much into it but it felt like Andy got caught up in the moment too. He kind of shrugged it off after reading but then Stephen got up and started applauding I think he really felt that joy as well. I mean, as an actor in film Andy doesn't an immediate audience reaction. It can be even worse for a voice actor because most of his work is done in a sound proof booth by himself. To do the voices and have someone opposite you that you know is very appreciative of the effort you put in has to be a good feeling. It's easy to forget that he's not imitating Gollum because there was no Gollum before he came along. He created this voice that has become a pop culture phenomenon. It's amazing.

Andy Serkis did such an amazing job on these audiobooks! I've read the Lord of the Rings but haven't heard them with the perspective of another voice.
