    10:08 another slight benefit to wonder skin is that your opponent won’t try to status you at all if you have Good as Gold because it’ll just outright fail, but if you have wonder skin they could try to status you and miss, wasting their turn instead of using an attack

    • @2EntireLegs

      @@2EntireLegs I think I would notice if an opponent had Sand Veil and not Wonder Guard. It provides immunity, WG does not. And WG clearly states when it triggers I'm pretty sure. I kind of agree with you, but you made a bad comparison. And it's not about the mind game at all, it's about missing and thus wasting a turn. Though I will say, I tried a few times, with No guard and Hustle, A few of the status immunities, and like 1 other pair. Trying to make a comparison here is tough.

    • @2EntireLegs
      @2EntireLegs 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@apandawithnodirectionsinli1327 I think the keyword here is "try". An opponent would "try" to status wonder skin instead of good as gold. Personally, that's a dumb way to say that wonder skin is better than good as gold just because sometimes they will do something that might fail.

      @@2EntireLegs The way I see it it's kind of like trying to force your opponent into a situation where they have to use Focus Blast, or other low accuracy moves, several times. Now that's where the original comment falls apart because at that point, why not just make them have to use low accuracy moves with Good as Gold? And yeah, as I said. I do agree, saying WS can be better because in a perfect scenario it "might" do better than Gold is kind of bad because that's ignoring the times your Pokemon got status-ed and Gold got a miss anyways. And that's not even mentioning what you just said, it's ignoring any time they attacked anyways.

    • @sriramn1809

      Let me rephrase what u were on to so it can kind of actually make sense.
      Hypothetically, if a pokemon has the option to have wonder skin and another ability thats equally competitive, the opponent needs to guess which one it is, if they aren't running around with trace or skill swap, or if the other ability is super easy to spot.
      good as gold is easier to spot than wonder skin. If u use toxic on it for example, 95% of the time, the opponent will know the enemy has good as gold. And the remaining 5% they wud still be guessing.
      However, with wonder skin, u got much lower accuracy so ur going to miss half the time, but the opponent may just think they are unlucky and continue guessing.

    When it comes to protecting allies from poison, there are very strict scenarios where your ally would benefit from status, like Guts, where a poison could help. In these scenarios, however, burns would always be preferable due to their lower DMG per turn, which means that the only, extremely specific scenario where Pastel Veil is worse than Immunity, is in a double battle where your partner is a Toxic Boost Zangoose.
    In the same vein, protecting your ally from sleeping could stop them from clicking a beneficial Rest.
    Pastel Veil and Sweet Veil can only be STRICTLY better if, and only if they don't check for self procs on status conditions on your allies, since a Toxic Boost Zangoose will always be holding a Toxic Orb, and Rest users want to cause their own sleep.

    Another important distinction between Air Lock vs. Delta Stream: Air Lock still bypasses the Primals’ weather effects no matter when the Primals switch in, so Rayquaza can still hit Primal Groudon with Surf or Waterfall even if it switches in and activates Desolate Land, but Mega Rayquaza cannot because Desolate Land will still be active and will just replace Delta Stream’s effect.

    Regarding Toxic Boost / Guts (but not Steelworker/Steely Spirit as of now) Actually there is one very specific place where a discrepancy arises between move power and attacking stat: Body Press. Body Press uses the Defense stat for the damage calculation, so boosting the damage will apply to it but not the Attack stat. This can be seen with, for example, Burn vs Intimidate: the former lowers Body Press damage, while the latter doesn't
    Also, there's another difference between Magnet Pull and Arena Trap that's extremely relevant: Magnet Pull can trap Flying and Levitating mons that are Steel type, such as Corviknight, Skarmory, Celesteela and Bronzong
    Regardless, this is a great video! It's really interesting to see just how many redundancies and straight-up upgrades there are in Pokemon, and just how many extremely specific things seem to appear out of nowhere to make one trait better than another

    Honestly, for both Zacian & Zamazenta. I would say that back in Gen 8, those 2 were on par with the Ogerpon Wellflame & Cornerstone's tera forms, as the dog's ability would activate every time they switched it. But due to Zacian's utter dominance in last gen's VGC series, the dogs got their abilities nerfed for a balancing factor. Sucks that they just redid the dogs ability again when they created Ogerpon's 2 tera forms, but whatever. And yes, I am aware you were judging abilities by "in a vacuum", but incase someone decides to make some sort of correction comment, I'm just gonna leave this here.

    -----------------------------------------
    Mycelium Might, in turn, is better than Stall. ❤

      @dreadfury2485 7 месяцев назад

      Not entirely accurate; if something with Stall uses Payback/Avalanche/Revenge, it’s better to go last and boost your odds of getting hit first, and Mycelium Might doesn’t affect these moves because they’re attacks, not status moves.

    1:00 the only issue with this 'correction' is that the punchglove isn't exclusive to iron fist mons. You could just as easily put a punchglove on a tough claws mon and get a 1.43x boost to punching moves, plus the 1.3x boost to other contact moves

      Literally the only theoretical in which you'd not want, for example, huge power over intrepid sword, is if you are thrown into the middle of a battle against a foul play pokemon who outspeeds you and can only kill you if your attack stat is juuuuust high enough due to huge power. Which obviously is not a foreseeable event. If you are building a team, even if you KNOW you are going to face a team with a foul play user, and even if your own pokemon has a self-confusing move, you would literally still choose huge power over intrepid sword given the option

    One thing I do wanna say though, and I know you put this in the "mostly" better section, but I still dont think its right to say that the "super weather" abilities of the primal legendaries are mostly better because they fulfill entirely different purposes (ie self sufficiency vs. setting up for team). Pokemon like Pelipper and Torkoal would NOT want to trade off their abilities for their "super" variants, in fact it would be a pretty massive downgrade, as being able to switch out and have the weather persist is the only thing that makes those pokemon viable in the first place. Granted, if you give Desolate land to the average self-sufficient fire type pokemon it would completely break the game, but I do think the abilities' use cases are too different to be mentioned here imo.

    Would tera shell not be a better multiscale sunce it makes the moves not very effective instead of halving damage?

    • @AriehAnkri
      @AriehAnkri 7 месяцев назад

      not exactly, because if you hit tera shell user with not very effective move (i know it's impossible with terapagos, but in theory) it will take regular resisted damage, while multiscale will take half than that.
      another difference is when using tinted len pokemon on tera shell will do regular damage, but not to multiscale

    Tera shell is strictly better than multiscale. Instead of halving damage, it makes the incoming move a resisted move.
    The 1st difference is that Tera shell can turn a weakness into a resistance. A Pokémon with Tera Shell active has no weaknesses.
    The 2nd difference is that its better against multi hit moves like icicle spear. Multiscale only halves the damage of the first hit of a multi hit move, since you're not at full hp anymore when you take the 2nd hit. In contrast, tera shell makes all hits a resisted hit.
    Finally, tera shell is not strictly better or worse than shadow shield. While turning all hits of a damaging move into resisted hits is better than halving damage of the first hit, it can still be ignored by mold breaker, unlike shadow shield.

    • @augustrehm7810
      @augustrehm7810 7 месяцев назад +3

      Technically, Tera Shell isn't strictly better than multiscale - Tera Shell does not reduce the damage of attacks the pokemon is already resistant to, while Multiscale does.

    • @edgargaebolg9307
      @edgargaebolg9307 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@augustrehm7810That's true but at least with Multiscale you can take a bigger chunk of health with super-effective damage. With Tera Shell everything gets resisted so the typing won't matter anyway

      Well, double battles... Otherwise, someone else here said it best. Drizzle and PS/Drought and DL function completely differently on a team. And thus, while in a vacuum, the super weathers are mostly better. They do fulfill different niches in real game scenarios. Also, if you want to mention Swift Swim, then I bring up Trick Room. Or an opposing Swift Swimmer, or a Sun/Sandstorm team who cancels out the regular weather(which are far more common than super weathers), and heck. Drought and Desolate Land, why separate Drizzle and Primordial Sea? Chlorophyll users exist too. And if Groudon is on the enemy field while you can't set up Drizzle, what are you going to do? Again, I think if we are going to bring up SS, we should recognize that weathers and super weathers do fulfill niches. Otherwise in a vacuum, super weathers are better unless the cancelled type is one of your important coverage moves, for the most part.
