This, THIS. They literally had the easiest fucking prompt "make these pokemon look like they're from the future" and chose the LAZIEST option of making every single one of them just a robot. No other unique ideas, they don't even attempt to use different forms of robotics for their designs, just "x pokemon but metal" and thats why I'll always hate them.

Honestly, I like the IDEA behind the future Paradoxes all being largely uniform, with similar names and shinies. It invokes the idea of an optimized future where variety and creativity simply has no place. But even if the idea's nice, it doesn't change the fact that they're all uniform, uncreative designs that're lacking in variety, which makes them each boring, say for exceptions like Iron Valiant.

    • @staarfall5317
      @staarfall5317 25 дней назад +11

i cut them some slack because the appeal of the future forms is their animations. bundles neck extender, valiants arm blades, etc, since that is something the past forms lack. i love the idea too, but they couldve just been a little more creative and it woulve been fine.

I'd cut the Future Paradoxes some slack on the Design aspect, because their entire appeal comes from their animations - Iron Bundle's jack-in-the-box neck, Iron Boulder's head-axe combination, and Iron Valiant's armblades that turn into a blade are elements that you can't normally know from their default renders, but these are very key aspects of these Pokémon that add an edge to them that the Ancient Paradoxes lack. Frankly, I don't quite understand why the Design aspect was included at all in the first place.

They are unique from a lore perspective because it’s something the series has never tackled before
A dystopian future for Pokemon is an interesting concept
The future forms are cyborgs not robots similar to armored mewtwo but the enhancements became permanent part of their physiology cuz if they were robots they’d all be pure electric and/or steel oe dual typed but they don’t they all retain at least one of their original types meaning that it’s lineage/biology is still part of it deep down
either they did it to themselves or humans did it as a way to either act inhumanely or as a way to preserve them
I think they all just overtime just became cyborgs down the line without going extinct maybe endangered or a way to keep them from being endangered
Or just a way to advance evolution in a selfish way
The reason the lore calls them robots is because they don’t know much about them so all the modern day people are doing is assuming
For sandy shocks my guess is that it used to look like a regular Pokémon but adapted to being exposed to some sort of ancient form of metal
Sort of like Pokémon’s version of vibranium and then overtime became sandy shocks and then the magnemite line
The metal could have come from space explaining why magnezone resembles a UFO
They weren’t named by the people of the future and past they were named by the people of present day who don’t know anything about them and just came up with something to describe them
It’s no different than how we name newly discovered fossils

I'd argue that the animations only really elevate the ones that had solid designs to begin with outside of Iron Boulder and Iron Moth. Iron Thorns, Iron Hands, and Iron Jugulis have next to nothing unique or mindblowing going on with their animations and Iron Bundle, Valiant, and Miraidon are already solid designs on their own that're elevated by their models.
Also, first impressions matter. Despite the games being primarily 3D for a little under half of the series life at this point (17 years vs 11 as of now), a LOT of people still regard the 2D depictions of mons as their "proper" appearances (even if I personally don't agree with this philosophy). There's a reason the past paradoxes are by and large better regarded-they just sell their designs on the surface in a more striking fashion. Hell, going with probably the least popular members of both groups-Sandy Shocks without context is still a funky Magneton creature with giant magnet walkers, facepaint, and a topknot made out of magnetic sand. Iron Jugulis without context is just a Hydreigon that looks like SV's LODs are messing up again.

I would not say that the future paradoxes are designwise *that* bad tbh
Most of them are kinda uninspired looking tbh but there are exceptions
Iron Valiant is pretty fucking cool being a fusion of gallade and gardevoir
Iron Bundle actually does something with its concept compared to most of the future paradoxes with delibird's bag turning into a water hose/bag
Iron Moth while borrowing similar elements to Volcarona, still looks pretty neat with its wings looking like solar pannels and such bc of the sun design element carrying over

In vgc iron bundle and iron hands were strong because they are less terrain relayable but you avoided the iron crown in the room, easly the strongest future paradox in vgc format at the moment and only checked by dark type that he can destroy with tera. Design wise i think most of the past one are lame because they are big version of X pokemon and their pokedex description are way more lame than the future one.

There is so many other possibilities and inspirations you can take of a future form concept. There is one fakemon I saw called 'Promise Kept' where it's a future form of Cursola, taking place in a period where the pollution and destruction of coral reefs where addressed resulting a design that is full of life, complete contrast to what Cursola is about. That is SOOO fucking cool, so having it all just be robots and nothing else is a total waste of potential.

I think that, out of all the future paradoxes, Iron Moth and Valiant have the bigger chance to stand out once Miraidon becomes legal. Valiant because with a speed boost and Focus Sash it can consistently reduce Kyogre, a mirror Miraidon itself and other special attackers damage output with a fast Spirit Break while also doing good damage and Moth because it has a good special defense against same special attackers while also being faster with terrain boost/resisting a lot of them.

I decided to opt out with a Calyrex + Chi-yu + Miraidon Team, with Iron Bundle to Work with Miraidon. I put an AV Speed Quark Drive Iron Leaves set (ran Psyblade, Leaf Blade, Sacred Sword, and Tera Flying Tera Blast) to complete the Fire/Grass/Water Core (Rilla would just add the Terrain, and Overgrow is Mid on it, and Amoonguss has bad synergy with Electric Terrain).

I will never forgive the design of iron jugulis. One of hydriegon's prototype designs was that it became a tank, and when I heard about its paradox form in the leaks I thought for sure we were getting a badass hyrda tank. Unfortunately, all the final design amounts to is just LED hydriegon, which even then is a poor execution of a robot dragon. It's a flying type, why not give it jet thrusters or turn its tendrils into helicopter blades?
As someone who likes dinosaurs I can tell a lot of the past paradox forms aren't that deep, just having "prehistoric" traits slapped onto them instead of being based off specific extinct animals (with a few exceptions, like the beasts). Even with those designs being only superficially ancient it's still a bit jarring how little effort a lot of the future paradox forms have by comparison. Iron thorn and (whatever paradox cobalion is called) are literally just the original designs but a robot. They really should've changed the design's silhouettes so that they came off as distinct ideas.
Iron hands, iron moth and iron valiant do look cool though. The first two have neat detached body parts, and the latter is a fusion of two different pokemon! More of that would've been cool.

  • @lordmarshmal_0643
    @lordmarshmal_0643 3 месяца назад +8

Since I came here under the impression of this being strictly about the designs, I'll add to that early section with my own view
A lot of the Future paradoxes are practically just recolors of their "Present" counterparts - most of the Past roster takes the original mons and runs with em to make something distinctly unique from the original design (Scream Tail and Brute Bonnet are a lil questionable in originality and Raging Bolt is just plain goofy) but the _Future_ roster, oh my god so much of it looks like the Present versions just, neon-ified?
The only designs I actually like from the Future roster are Miraidon itself, Iron Bundle (feels very recolor but I think it's adorable, plus its head getting briefly shot off its neck when taking damage is just funny), and Iron Valiant (I'm a fan of Pokemon fusions so this one in particular was a welcome treat) - Treads I was on the fence about for a while but it's just not grown on me, overall I'd say I've seen better robot Pokemon concepts done by fans
I don't mind the "Iron" prefix all that much but, yeah it definitely doesn't help their case either

The thing is, judging by the illustration, its third finger appears to be the longest (theropods usually have their second finger being the longest). That is characteristic for Herrerasaurids, a very basal group of Saurischian dinosaurus, who are not theropods. I am very impressed you knew of this dinosaur (I had to look it up, turns out my Herrerasaurid-diagnosis appears to be correct and the genus is indeed either a Herrerasaurid or a basal sauropodomorph, who are both not theropods), it was fun looking up this animal. One thing I wanna add about Slither Wing as a Slither Wing enjoyer: It has amazing bulk when paired with Intimidate and is running an Assault Vest. Max HP lets it hit 192 which gives it optimal Terrain recovery and because it has 135 attack you don’t need as much investment for it to reach thresholds it needs to do and with 105 SpDef and AV you can EV very easily to survive specific hits. The biggest thing it has going for it is it’s insane coverage. Fire, Ground, Bug, Fighting, Flying, Electric, and Grass coverage is absolutely wacky. Ive ran an AV one a team with Ting Lu and it can not die to special hits at all cause of the passive healing of Leech Life. I genuinely believe that if Incineroar, Torn, Flutter, and Iron Hands didn’t exist it’d be amazing. It has amazing matchups against Ursaluna and can threaten an OHKO with CC/Low Kick, it can run First Impression which is huge off of 135 Attack and Stab, it has a ground resist and because of its huge Special Bulk it can eat hits from Lando-I really well, and it’s great against Lando-I, and it has good matchups against Ogerpon. It just was unfortunate enough to be in a meta game with so many counters to it alongside so many replacements for it

Any format that Miraidon is legal, groudon will also be legal. And groudon has spread ground moves which massively threaten the double electric set ups of Miraidon and iron hands/ thorns

Imma disagree with florges, it has a great distribution just lacking in the movepool and ability side. Itd be great with ally switch, trick room, strength sap and a better ability like misty terrain
